Detailed Reviews
Returned to Balmoral on York after previous stay. Staff friendly and helpful. Initially website booking indicated unavailable for our 4 night stopover, but an email elicited a response that suitable room with city view was available with hot breakfast included. Parking is easy with big wide paved parking area. Easy walk downtown and to most of key tourist spots therein. A good selection of restaurants is within walking distance too. We like a wine with dinner so this is important to us. Breakfast is served in the dining room bar and on good mornings the adjoining balcony that overlooks the city and flower boxes. In addition to a good buffet of cereals, fruit and breads, eggs are available boiled poached or fried and a slection of accompaniments, bacon, tomato, spinach etc. This hot meal come as table service. By booking directly via hotel website our breakfasts one gluten free were included in room rate, otherwise there is a reasonable charge according to buffet only or buffet and hot. Newspapers are also provided. Wifi is free and seemed fast and there was Foxtel TV selection. As well as an Apple TV to enable streaming from Stan and Netflix via hotel account.. The room is not huge but comfortable for two. There is a barfridge and coffee and tea and electric jug and microwave as well as biscuits. There is separate shower no bath. We will return.

The night manager was very helpful - I phoned at 6:30pm and booked and we arrived at 10pm. He did a better rate than booking.com The room had a double and a single bed (which was separated in a little alcove). The room was clean. The hallways did have a musty smell - the room did not. It was a Wednesday night and we didn't wake until 8am. The traffic wasn't noisy or much. It was a public holiday. Close to town. The free breakfast was a continental style, fruits, toast, cereal, -we could pay $7 extra for a hot breakfast if we wanted. Netflix in the room. Looked like very thick walls so would be quiet. Quite spacious

Clean and convenient. Exceptional price and service. We arrived at breakfast late (thought it finished at 10, oops!) and were welcomed in. I was hoping for a quick coffee at best as breakfast service had ended but we were told not to rush and my partner even had a cooked breaky for an extra 7 bucks. I was more than happy with the fresh fruit and toast. They also had cereals, various breads and spreads/ preserves. Thanks for being so accommodating! Would definitely stay again and would recommend to everyone.

Rate too high for a motel, one can stay in a 4-star full service hotel with this rate; Promise for a premium continental breakfast included in the room rate, whereas the one provided was below average breakfast spread of cut fruits, canned limited variety juices, breads, cereals and tea/coffee. Continental breakfast necessarily includes minimum of above and also eggs, fresh juices, pastries, bagles, waffles, sausages, yogurts, hot chocolate etc. Too many inconveniences in the room - no aircon, split unit can only work in heat mode, can’t use tea/coffee kettle without unplugging from the wall, to quote a few.

We have stayed on a couple of occasions and have found the service right from booking through to checking out to be fantastic.
The rooms are clean and comfortable. With free Netflix.
We opt for the included breakfast and it is always fresh and hot. The selection of bread, cereal and fruit etc is also adequate.
The location is very convenient to the city and it also has onsite parking.
The street front rooms can be subject to street noise which is annoying if you are not used to it - like us :)
I'd suggest booking direct with the hotel and not through a third party website.
It's nice not to be "taken for a ride" on price once you add a child to the booking.

The owner operators of this hotel make you feel welcome from the moment you make your booking.
The rooms were pleasant, spotless and large, and we were lucky to have a room with a city view with a balcony giving us lots of bright natural light.
The breakfast was wonderful with freshly cooked Eggs, spinach extras and the buffet included freshly cut fruit and lots of cereals.
The staff were friendly and made you feel very welcome.
There was plenty of parking at the rear of the property which made it easy when you hire a car.
It was a very easy walk to all the areas in Launceston that are a must to visit
There are so many restaurants and bars and tourist sites that are only a mere five minutes walk from this hotel.
We would stay there again. I would highly recommend it if anyone wanted a friendly great hotel in a good location at a good price.

Stayed here for one night. Room was fine, bed comfy, views really good and really nicely located in CBD.
Only issue I had was that I booked it through Qantas, it was a special deal, with bonus FF points and breakfast included. The next morning, when checking out, hotel staff told me that as it was booked through Qantas that no breakfast was included and I had to pay for it, despite it clearly saying that in the add which I still had a record of on my booking invoice. I did contact the hotel afterwards re this, their reply was somewhat condescending, unprofessional and they stood their ground on the "no breakfast included with Qantas bookings".
Having said that, credit where it is due and this issue aside, in fairness it was a pleasant stay.

I wasn't going to bother writing this, but given so many other people are saying the same thing, I'll add my two cents worth. I booked my entire trip to Tasmania through Qantas. For our two nights in Launceston I had the choice of this hotel or the Mantra for the same price. I chose this hotel because breakfast was included whereas at the Mantra it wasn't, thinking to save time in the mornings and a bit of money. I found out next morning that in fact it was not included and got a long sob story from the owner about how Qantas and Jetstar were eating into his profits through misinformation. We were begrudgingly told "don't worry though, you can still have your breakfast". We're talking toast, basic cereals, tinned fruity and crap coffee - hardly a profit breaker, would have cost him about $2 a person. We were made to feel like criminals and didn't even bother to eat there the next morning (went around the corner to Sweetbrew - absolutely amazing food, cheaper than the bland fare offered by the hotel). At checkout I was referred to as "the qantas person" without a smile or a thankyou. Your motto is to provide "excellent service that continues to astound new guests: - we were astounded for sure, but for all the wrong reasons. Sort your stuff out with Qantas, but don't hold guests accountable.

Balmoral is my favourite accommodation in Launceston. I travel often from the east coast for medical purposes and Balmoral is central to all the facilities I require. The accommodation is extremely clean and comfortable compared to many other accommodation in the region. The hosts are very accommodating and friendly and always give me a warm welcome and show genuine concern.
I have noticed that the property also accommodates sales reps and business people which says to me that the property is good value.
If you book direct you will receive many benefits and you have to try the fully cooked breakfast it certainly is a great start to the day.
I highly recommend the Balmoral on York for travellers from all walks of life that would prefer clean, comfortable and professional accommodation.
Thanks Trevor & Sherryn I will be back soon. Regards Peter

Great little motel/hotel in Launceston. My partner and I stayed here for 1 night after getting off the Spirit of Tasmania in Devonport. It’s an older building but very well maintained. Free parking. The man at reception upgraded us to a city view room, which was very nice. The rooms were incredibly clean and have Apple TV with access to Netflix and Stan. Close to restaurants and city park. Great spot to rest after a day out.
Continental Breakfast was included in our booking and had cereals, yoghurt, fresh cut fruit and fresh breads and condiments. A lot nicer and fresher than your standard chain hotel breakfast! You can upgrade to a cooked breakfast for a few dollars more if you prefer.
If we come back to Launceston we will definitely stay here, it’s great value.

Sorry for the delay in reply. You would need to either take a taxi or pay for the airport shuttle bus. The airport is about 20 mins max by taxi.
They open at 7am. There are also several cafes within a block or two of the hotel and cafes at the airport if you go there early.
About 10 mins at most
