We booked this accommodation at the last minute after arriving into launceston on a rainy night which wasn’t good for camping! Chose this place as it looked quite charming, offered breakfast included for a reasonable price. It took a little while to find as google maps takes you too far down York St, but we found it after about 10 minutes. Once arrived, George stayed up and greeted us and showed us to our room. There are 6 guest rooms, we had number 5. Very pleasantly decorated, with a separate bathroom, tea and coffee facilities and heating. The bed was a bit creepy but didn’t interfere with our sleep. Breakfast in the morning was very pleasant, was great to meet others traveling around Tassie and had George cook us brekky (eggs and tomato), cereal and fruit are also on offer. This property is for sale as George and his wife are getting old, hopefully the next owners will continue the charm of this little gem!

We booked for a one-night stay, but after seeing our room, we decided to stay for two nights. The upstairs room, complete with ensuite, was spotlessly clean and supplied with tea and coffee making facilities. The bed was very comfortable and it was nice to relax in the alcove off the main room and enjoy a wine while taking in the view.
The location was very central and we found it easy to walk into the city and to the nearby pub where we had a good and reasonably-priced meal. Good, free off-street parking was a bonus, as was the excellent WiFi.
David and Fiona were delightful hosts, with nothing being too much trouble. David cooked us a lovely breakfast of bacon, eggs and tomatoes, supplemented by fruits and cereals, and toast with beautiful homemade blackberry jam. While cooking, David chatted away all the while and made us feel very welcome. A lovely man.
We would certainly stay here again whilst in Launceston, and would highly recommend “Hi George” to others.

Stayed for one night as part of Tassie road trip. To be honest we were pretty disappointed with Launceston itself however our stay here was a highlight of our trip. The accomodation and hosts were so helpful. The breakfast is good. Cannot recommend highly enough.

I had booked a room last month for Hi George through the hotels.com site and I paid for it in full and it was confirmed immediately.
Upon arrival we were informed that my booking was cancelled, which was definitely not the case.It was still active on my hotels.com site.
We were very upset and angry as we knew that accommodation in Launceston was heavily booked this particular weekend.
The owner said that he saw my original booking but also recalled that he saw an email cancelling our accommodation.
Upon me inquiring about this email the owner could not locate it,very interesting indeed!! There were no more rooms available.
I rang hotels.com who were very helpful attempting to find us alternative accommodation, which they were not successful in finding. They are refunding our money in full.
Fortunately, friends came to our rescue and we are staying with them for the duration of our stay.
This experience was most upsetting and certainly should not have occurred and the booking site I used was not at fault in anyway.

I felt it was very unprofessional act when confirmed booking for April 2019 was cancelled after 5 days. The reason was explained in their email that Asian guests usually cancel bookings and they want to cook themselves. I booked 6 rooms 1 couple each all Malaysian tour customers. My tour business is responsible to pay as it was packaged tour and I explained we normally cancel because our customers book their international and domestic flights and pay deposit. How can you trust these people?
Later he said he couldn't look after 12 people in 6 rooms. Then why do you advertise and offer 6 rooms min 1 max 3 persons in each room. That's not peofessional!

After reading TA reviews and researching the area,we booked this B&B for 2 nights stay, during our trip around Tassie. The hosts are friendly & quite elderly. We felt they have perhaps lost their passion for the industry & it was told to us,that selling the B&B is on the cards. TA reviews are subjective & with all due respect to the owners, this review is an honest renditiin of our time spent there & supported by pics too.
Our room was up a narrow creaking staircase,in a high ceiling blank walled room. It had a musty old smell with no natural light except for the adjoining small sitting area window. Note the 2 chairs have past there use by date & quite stained. Note, there is no table. The really small tea/coffee station is in the cutout part of the cupboard. Note, there is NO fridge in the room, however, there is a shared fridge at the end of the corridor. The wooden bed is old, creaky & has a very firm mattress. We did not sleep well & woke with sore back & neck. There is alot of dust & cracks behind furniture etc. The wifi is strong & tv reception is good & there is a good heater in the wall. The bathroom is very basic & not alot of bench space. The shower is not very good. The towels are hard & crunchy & not pleasant to dry yourself with. There are no hand towels provided.
Breakfast was very basic & not very well done. Sad to say,we just could not stay & paid for the 1 night & said farewell,we needed to move on. At $140per night,we felt we could do bette & have a much better experience elsewhere & we have for $123...but that will be a seperate review. Thanks for reading this long review.

This is a very neat and tidy B&B. The hosts are very nice and Breakfast was great with a choice of cereals, bacon and eggs, fresh fruit and real coffee. We were in room 4 which had a bit of a city view and was very quiet for a goods night sleep.

David & Fiona are charming hosts of a lovely B&B near the centre of Launceston. You won't need to use the car while you are here. Our room was comfortable and clean with a sunny sitting room and a great bed and terrific home made shortbread.
Breakfast was great (homemade blackberry jam was another highlight).
David's knowledge of the area (and Tassie in general) was very helpful in planning our activities.
I can't imagine we would stay anywhere else when visiting Launceston.

As well as a curious name (the owner is not named George, nor is it in the adjoining George Street), this bed and breakfast also has an unusual lay out being on three levels (I believe it was originally two houses at different levels with an extension built in the middle to join them.) This means that although the front door is at street level it is kept locked and nobody will answer if you knock as the reception is in the middle section (effectively a separate building) down a sloped path at the side. This section is the living quarters of the owners and where the kitchen and breakfast room is also located. There is no guest lounge.

The car park is at the bottom level and is accessed through a narrow drive a short way up the road. There is plenty of room in the car park once down there but the entrance to the drive is quite narrow so needs care to negotiate at an angle, particularly for a large car. In essence, therefore, it means that you either walk up the slope from the car park or down the slope from street level to get to reception.

There are six bedrooms with 1 to 4 at street level while 5 and 6 are at mid-level by reception/breakfast. This means that those in rooms 1-4 have to go down and up many stairs to breakfast and back, while those in 5 or 6 will have to walk either up or down the slope when going out. Either way it means that those with mobility difficulties may find it less than ideal. Furthermore the location, while being conveniently close to the town centre, does involve walking downhill (and up again on return) so again something to bear in mind if mobility is a problem.

As for the accommodation, our bedroom (at street level) was comfortable and homely in an old-fashioned way. It also had a small sitting area off the bedroom which was nice. The bathroom had a walk-in shower, but it lacked the sophistication of toiletries such as soaps, shampoos etc. of most b&bs (for example, there was a plastic pump-action bottle of hand wash for all purposes). There are tea and coffee facilities in the room, with milk in a communal fridge our on the landing (near rooms 1 -4).

For all that the place has character, as do the owners, Dave and Fiona whose age I dare not speculate! Breakfast is taken at a large communal table, which is nice as it means you get to chat to other guests who are there. Either Dave or Fiona cook breakfast (eggs, bacon and tomato). Dave is very chatty, so when Fiona cooks the breakfast Dave will chat, get the coffee and chat, bring the toast and chat on so on. However, if it is Dave on his own then he still chats while he cooks, which means that you might find your eggs a little hard (especially if you ask for them over easy), or you may have to remind him for your tea, coffee or toast. But for all that he’s a lovely old character so nobody really minds.

If you require transfer to the airport Dave will telephone the airport shuttle service for you and they pick up outside the Balmoral hotel on the opposite side of the road.

In short, if you are looking for a modern, stylish b&b with all mod cons, or have difficulties with mobility then this might not be for you, but all in all we enjoyed our stay and meeting Dave & Fiona.

Had a 1 night stay at Hi George and it was a very nice experience. Clean rooms, comfortable bed, great location very close to the centre of town and a lovely cooked breakfast at a shared table was a unique experience.
I would recommend this to anyone looking to spend a night or 2 in town.

Rod I was travelling without a car but I know there was plenty of parking behind the house, don't think it was undercover though. Can't imagine it would be a problem as it was very close to the entrance.
