Detailed Reviews
Made our way into Launceston on boxing day and checked in at the Mercure. Whilst the reception staff were friendly, they failed to provide the basic information about breakfasts (which i had paid for). During the evening on return to the hotel, the reception staff appeared to be not interested, tired and not wanting to be there (great customer service).
Rooms very clean, bathroom whilst small (think Japanese size) was functional however water pressure could have been better.
Something I haven't seen before was the iron permanently wired into the wall (within the cupboard) with a push button timer switch. I can appreciate the safety feature of this idea however when there are two people in the room it can be congested around the cupboard and the doorway into the bathroom and the time allowed is so short that you have to lean across the ironing board and potentially the iron to push the button back in.
The property is located about 3-4 blocks away (up a slight incline) from the city centre.
All in all a comfortable place to overnight, could have been improved very easily by cheery and helpful reception staff.

This is an older motel that has been renovated and now calls itself a hotel. Launceston is very hilly with some hills quite steep. This hotel was towards the top of one of these steep hills. There are three wings with carparking inbetween each wing. The wing closest to the road has two levels. There is a lift between these levels but the other wings are higher than the top level of the front wing. So if you miss out on a parking spot and have to park on the road you could have to lug your luggage up the road, up a handful of steps to reception, into the lift then out of that front wing up more steps to a room in the rear wing. The driveway up from the road to parking in front of the rear wing is seriously steep.
We were on the top level of the front wing nearest the roundabout. Didn't hear much road noise.
The room was not decorated to my tastes. Large format concrete-look tiles on the floor and walls of the bathroom with a feature wall of glossy black tiles. There was a large step up to raised shower recess. Here there was a dip down to the water outlet. Not good for those with mobility and balance issues.
King double bed was a bit soft for my liking. Silly hanging section in wardrobe. Rail ran front to back making it difficult to get coats and so on in and out.
The lovely park over the road and close proximity to city centre are saving graces.
Would I stay here again? Probably not.

Dear Rosey55, We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Mercure Launceston. At Mercure we strive to ensure that our guests have a memorable experience and all feedback received allows us the opportunity to continually grow and improve on our product and service. The feedback received will be reviewed by the relevant departments to assess what we may be able to address in the future. I appreciate that you loved the close proximity to City Park and the CBD. Obviously we are challenged with the gradient of the hotel and the parking, which is why we also have a couple of bays in front of the hotel for drop off of luggage to assist our guests. Thank you again for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, it is appreciated. Sincerely, Natasha B

Upon arrival, the staff were very polite and pleasant, but when I walked into my room, I was taken a back. Although the room was very spacious, with a large queen size bed, as well as a 3 seater sofa, and a desk and other typical hotel room furniture, as well as a very spacious bathroom, with double headed shower, there was NO external window.
The two small windows, had frosted glass over them, so I had no idea what the weather was like outside. I wasn't too sure if this "window" was just a backlit box box, made to resemble a window (with internal blinds installed to block out the light) or an actual window, that had been frosted.
I noticed the light levels fade, so I assumed it was an external window, but who would know?
This was very disappointing and I expressed this disappointment to the staff soon after my arrival. I didn't request a change of room, but I did say that the hotel should alert people who book this room (I never specifically requested this room) that the room has no external window. I didn't expect a view out over the street, even a view over the side lane or rear carpark would have provided some sense of life, but one would not know what was happening outside, other than to walk out the front door.

We enjoyed staying here and liked the larger room we had and the gold welcome drinks we were allowed to take from the mini bar. The hotel is located in a great area next to City park with free parking up a steep drive. The bathroom was renovated and had good water pressure with herby smelling toiletries. We would stay here again for sure.
We did eat breakfast here which was good but not enough staff. The poor server, Aspen, was doing such a great job. She was calm and friendly even though she just had too much to do. As they are charging $27 a breakfast, they can afford to employ an extra person for 3 hours to cover!

Staff are friendly and informative in person and over the phone.
Location is brilliant as it is near town without being inside town centre, so it’s easy to walk to town for restaurants and cafes. It is also opposite City Park and 500m walk from the river.
They have ample offstreet parking when we stayed.
Room was clean and beds were comfortable. We had a street front room and they provide complimentary ear plugs in the room. We didn’t use them but some others may choose to use them. You can hear people talking on the street if they are immediately outside your window and they are loud.

I was a bit worried when I read the review after I booked the hotel however it turned out to be a good experience. The driveway to the carpark is a very steep slop and a fairly tight turn. As A+ Gold member we booked a double queen room and got a newly renovated room facing away from the street, and it was whisper quite and no noise at all. All the basic in room amenity is present and in line for a Mercure in Australia. Location is fairly central and bed is comfortable. Breakfast was slightly fatty but comes down to personal taste. Dinner was good however children meal have a very small serving. Check in and check out is smooth.
Will come back again in visiting in the future.

We booked our 5 night stay at the Mercure as an Accor package deal, described as "a quiet light-filled room, stylish décor and posturepedic king, Smart TV with Foxtel, workspace and USB compatibility, sleek bathroom with rain shower, complimentary WIFI and parking, breakfast included". It was all as described but Room 120 did not have the most enjoyable of views. Check-in and check-out was easy, staff friendly and professional, voucher for welcome drinks and a trio of chocolates each were a nice touch. Free parking but could be challenging depending on available bays. Notwithstanding the view, our stay was an overall enjoyable experience with great facilities and pleasant helpful staff at all levels, and worth a rating of 5*

Had an overnight stay after a few days in Burnie for work. Was in one of the Premier rooms, these are great and I would recommend booking these. Earplugs are provided for people not used to the city sounds. As I live in central Adelaide I didnt need the plugs at al, on fact it wasn't noisy at all. The rain shower was great. The staff are great too with a special mention to Chellsie in the restaurant who has a great sense of humor and makes all guests very welcome. As an Accor Platinum member I was well looked after and this was greatly appreciated.

last minute business trip to Launceston, not much left due to a range of Christmas functions. Outdated building, overpriced and wrong bed set up in room. Team super responsive and friendly. Small and overly warm room, not worth the inflated price but can imagine a sub $100 price tag would see this of great value. Have stayed at worse, massive kudos to the staff, friendly an welcoming.

Yes there was parking and no we didn’t pay for the parking .but I would just give them a call and make sure there is enough for when you are there.
The hotel does not have a shuttle
There is a airport shuttle that the hotel can book for you
Good luck
Arriving at the airport the shuttle is just to the left after you exit the airport
