We had a lovely stay at the Barn Accommodation. Everything was very clean and the staff were very obliging when we asked for a more comfortable bed for my daughter who was meant to be sleeping on a sofa bed.
We had absolutely no complaints. They even had a gym which we made use of. It is a bit out of town but we liked it that way.

The Barn Hotel and Steak 🥩 house is around 10 Minutes out of Mount Gambier town, we arrived there from Port Fairy and had booked a 1 bed room / suite.
We choose to stay here on our Road trip for 1 night, and also eat at the barn steak restaurant, as apparently the food is to die for.
On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who explained where our room was and how to get to it, a couple of minutes drive away to a row of converted barns.
The terraced apartment was very spacious, clean and fresh, it had all we needed for a short stay, very comfortable bed, ample room, a medium size fridge. Free parking was right outside.
The bathroom comprised of both bath and walk in rain shower with ample toiletries. Outside was a small garden area with seating.
Back in the main building there was a small comfortable bar area which lead on to the restaurant.
The menu is dominated with various steak 🥩 dish’s, we choose to avoid starters as looking at the plates of the other dinners we certainly wouldn’t have done justice to the main meal.
This came up excellently presented, the steak 🥩 I had was probably the best I had ever eaten.
It’s not cheap, nor is it too expensive either compared to the food dished up in the UK. If I lived within 50 miles of this place it would most definitely be a restaurant I would frequent at least once a month.

We stayed for a one night stopover travelling from Adelaide on route to Melbourne arranged through Southern World. The accommodation is a 12 minute drive from Mount Gambier. The rooms are motel style and perfectly adequate for one night, relatively clean and spacious. However there were stains on the carpet and the furniture has suffered wear and tear. The breakfast area is in the main building and our included breakfast was a choice of one dish from the menu to order and help yourself to tea, coffee and orange juice. It was unusual not to have fruit, cereal, pastries and toast as we've had these items in every other hotel we've stayed in. We didn't have a choice with this holiday package but I certainly wouldn't choose to stay here again.

The accommodation at The Barn never disappoints. Located just a few minutes outside Mount Gambier, the buildings, gardens & ammenities at this large site are simply second to none.
Peaceful & quiet, there is plenty of space, loads of parking and you are just a few minutes from everything that The Mount has to offer.
Last night we stayed in the premier king suites: large, secluded with a semi private patio area surrounded by well maintained gardens and a very comfortable, large bath.

We stayed at The Barn for 3 nights in January and were impressed with everything from the moment that we walked into the room to the time we left. The grounds are beautiful with trees and flowers as far as you can see. The staff are helpful and polite. The room was sooooo spacious (premier king suite with spa). The bathroom was huge and very clean. The bed was very comfortable - pillows weren’t the greatest but we usually bring our own from home anyway as we are a bit picky with them.
On the last morning we ordered room service breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast, mushroom and tomatoes, $22pp). It was probably in line with what you’d pay at a cafe for breakfast so it wasn’t ridiculously expensive (this was the most expensive option for breakfast though). The food was so good - the portion size was more than enough, neither of us quite finished our meals and were full all day! Eggs were cooked perfect and the meal was delivered nice and hot.
Everything was great and we would absolutely come back to Mt Gambier just to stay at this place again.

Last year we had an evening meal here and, due to having to drive an hour or so home on country roads I chose not to drink any wine. So this year we stayed overnight and had a fabulous time. When they said a Premier King, they meant 'Premier'; the room was huge with a fantastic bed and large ensuite. Check in was easy and once we had settled into our room it was a nice walk back to reception and into the Piano Bar to enjoy the ambiance over a cocktail before going in to the restaurant for dinner. I had the special steak after confirming it was gluten free (I am coeliac and need to avoid gluten at all costs). The staff were very helpful and clearly understood my needs and I enjoyed one of the best steaks I've eaten in years; it melted in my mouth. I also had a desert (gluten free of course) and really enjoyed the wine (a local Pino Noir), not needing to worry about safe driving. The next morning we enjoyed breakfast in the 'Engine Room' and again my Gluten Free requirement was carefully looked after. I have no doubt we will be doing this again in the future.

Whilst on a road trip from Adelaide to Melbourne we stopped off at Mount Gambier for an overnight stay at The Barn, we decided to book into the restaurant at the hotel as we had heard that it had a great steak menu.
I must say, what a surprise as it was absolutely superb! Not only did we discover that the hotel was steeped in history within the area hosting many an evening with famous people from around the world but it seemed to be a main restaurant around the area, from the friendly staff to the fantastic food and local red wine the whole evening was a very memorable one.
Thank you to all of the great staff!

Beautiful gardens, clean rooms but quite small inside. Quite a bit of a drive away from Mt Gambier and on the main road so quite a bit of traffic noise at night with the trucks. The room doesn't have a microwave or any extra amenities besides a kettle so you have no choice but to eat in the restaurant or drive back into town.

Our original reservation was cancelled due to COVID lockdown, but the property agreed to allow us to defer, which we did. Unfortunately, our original choice of accommodation was not available but agreed to an upgrade which was absolutely delightful. Overlooking beautifully manicured gardens with a patio to enjoy our surroundings, our deluxe suite was tastefully decorated, large bathroom, all the amenities you would expect in a 4-5 star resort. King bed, sofa, table, patio furniture, all very pleasant for a two- day getaway. Loved the practical touch of a monogrammed grey “makeup remover” facewashers, with the large white fluffy towels, what a fabulous idea. Amazing quiet setting, friendly staff and a great place to retreat to. Thank you.

Having said we would never dine at the Barn Steakhouse after a previous horrendous experience, we were invited guests for dinner, so could not refuse the special occasion. Foolishly we decided to give their “famous aged steak” another attempt, big mistake. Never have I been served a tougher, tasteless, dry steak with average accompaniments and a bland mushroom sauce, but in attempting to digest the tough meat, I choked when it stuck in my throat, and was unable to catch my breath. Not only was it embarrassing for both myself and fellow guests, but I had to walk through the restaurant before I gagged. As a consequence I had no appetite to finish the meal, but was not alone as other diners left their equally unappetising steaks. Never again. Please don’t advertise an aged juicy steak when you do not deliver.
