I travelled here for my work and stayed a weekend, while I didn’t stay in the room very much, there are still a lot of things to be said about The Commodore. The room I had was spacious and everything I needed was accommodated for. The highlight for me since I spent little time in the room itself was the staff members here. First Chelsea at the front desk, she was able to make my check in seamless so I could focus more on getting my belongings into the room before swiftly departing for work shortly afterwards. She has been a delight to chat with as well her welcoming and friendly demeanour really elevated my experience. Next would have to be the restaurant and their staff members. My servers on the weekend were Kat and Lilly, they were exceptional and efficient with their service, on both occasions when I used the restaurant for breakfast warmly greeted me and walked me over to my table. Both of them were very knowledgeable about the menu and their vibrant and charming nature made me feel welcome in the space. While I did not meet any other staff during my stay, I was definitely well catered for, the kitchen staff gave generous portions to my meals, the housekeeping staff had maintained my room while I was at work, overall a brilliant stay in my opinion, I would definitely check in here again.

The food in the restaurant was very nice. Service was also amazing, however, it was very pricey. The accomodation was ok for an overnight stay but would probably upgrade next time. Our room was on the highway and we could hear people next door. It was a very basic room.

We stayed one night on along drive between Adelaide and Melbourne. The furnishings in the room were very nice. There was considerable traffic noise at night and the ai-con was also noisy and in need of repair. Breakfast was OK, for the price. Tap water in Mt Gambier is hard, quite safe to drink but not a good drop. The Commodore supplies drinking water at $4.50 a bottle - enough said.

Hi In60s, We appreciate you taking the time to share your recent experience staying at The Commodore directly with the reception team as well as here via. TripAdvisor and on booking.com. We’re pleased to hear your feedback on our room furnishings, and regarding the air-conditioner, this was looked at following your check out; we’re happy to confirm it has been scheduled for repair and an upgrade. We would also like to touch on your feedback regarding our bottled water available in our rooms; as you highlighted, the tap water is safe to drink, but we do like to provide optional bottled water, and while it’s an additional charge, we also have filtered tap water available at request from our reception and would have been more than happy to provide this to you. Thank you again for taking the time to leave your reviews and for choosing to stay at The Commodore.

The room was reasonably sized for the price and location was fantastic as it was right in the middle of Mount Gambier. Food for breakfast was fabulous and service was exemplary. We booked the terrace room and was in room 28. Disappointed to find out that the patio was full of algae which made it very undesirable to step out. However, what left a sour taste in my mouth was that we had to pay for a dental kit at an exorbitant price of $4 each, barring the fact that we were told it was $2 instead by another staff member the night before. It was also unclear that drinks weren't included for breakfast and the cost just snuck its way into our final bill. Would have definitely been a 5 star experience if we hadn't experienced any of those.

Despite booking the room nearly 12 months ago I feel I have been allocated the noisiest room in the complex being in the corner on the cross road of two extremely busy roads. The traffic continues into the night and early morning Let’s hope the conference facilities make up for the lack of sleep

Hi there theresamM7368SO, We're so sorry to hear you were disturbed by some noise from the road. We were thrilled to welcome everyone from the Australian Women's Pilot Association, the bookings truly did fill up fast and well in advance like you've noted. We hope the conference was exceptional and that you enjoyed the hospitality of our restaurant and function facilities, and relished in the fantastic opportunity to connect with like minded individuals in your field. Again we're sorry to hear about the noise and hope to welcome you again to a different room type and location further from the road. Thank you for choosing to stay at The Commodore and for taking the time to leave a review.

Booked this motel at $190.00 for the one night. It was a lovely room but when I went to bed I found the bed very uncomfortable. It was very soft or it was an old mattress. Next morning had a shower and it was terrible, water running to slow. When to slow of course you use more water! For the amount we paid, it was not worth it. NEVER AGAIN will I go there, and I will let my friends know of my bad experience.

I wanted to share with your readers our recent experience with accommodation in Mount Gambier. We had spent the whole of December travelling around Tasmania, staying in a variety of accommodation styles, both modest and luxurious. When planning this trip we had decided to do the return journey from the Ferry Terminal in Geelong to our home in Adelaide via the Great Ocean Road, spending an overnight in Mount Gambier to break up the journey. Our online research for accommodation options in Mount Gambier identified one particular motel as being the best option of an uninspiring assortment. Their website proudly detailed that "multi-stage renovations have taken place by making improvements to existing rooms to offer a high level of accommodation". The associated pictures added support to this statement, displaying fresh, bright, clean decor that encouraged us to book, well in advance of our trip, the accommodation they describe as a "Superior Suite". The price of $190 per night seemed steep, but we chose to spend a little more to ensure a superior experience. The reality, however, was far from that described on their website. On our travels around Tasmania we had become accustomed to the high standard of accommodation available there. Somewhat naively, we therefore did not bother to check the standard of the assigned accommodation before moving our belongings in from our car. The appearance of the front of the unit should have served as a warning to us. We were assigned a unit (12) in the far back corner of the site, behind a neglected high planting bed. The paint around the window frames was cracked and peeling, and the front door was heavily marked and scuffed by years of abuse from people's luggage. Despite this, we foolishly proceeded to move in our belongings. Our first observation was that the unit was not a suite in the true sense. The definition of a suite is "a set of rooms" and, while the unit had two rooms, namely a Bathroom and a combined Living and Sleeping space, this arrangement is nothing more than a normal motel room. It is a reasonable expectation that a unit described as a suite would have at least a Bathroom, a Living room, and a separate Bedroom. Our second observation was that the unit could hardly be described as superior. Adding a leather reclining chair to an ordinary motel room does not, in our opinion, make it superior. The room was of a lesser standard than would be expected of a budget room. Not only did it have an unpleasant smell, but when we tried to open the only window that could be opened, the winder mechanism fell off in my hand. The sheer curtains did not cover the whole window area and were clearly ancient, frail, and grubby. The room was dark and dingy and the lighting made little difference. The light switches themselves were filthy with years of ingrained dirt. The paint on the Bathroom ceiling was peeling off in large flakes. The wall paint throughout the room was grubby and appeared not to have been refreshed in many years. The window at the rear of the unit looked onto a bed of weeds. We contemplated requesting a better room but, having already moved in our belongings, we (again) foolishly chose to stay. We set about making the best of the situation, and did what we could to sanitise all the surfaces and touch points with anti-bacterial wipes. It was whilst sanitising the Bathroom that I noticed, on the floor in front of the vanity, a cluster of long dark hairs. I am completely bald, and my Wife has short, grey hair, so it was clearly not ours. I had already been sceptical of the room preparation standards after cleaning off dark spots from the toilet seat and bowl, and my Wife had noticed that the refrigerator had not been cleared of the previous occupant's food. The extraneous hairs on the floor was the last straw for me. It was obvious that the cleaning standards at the establishment were sub-standard. There was therefore no point in requesting another room; the cleaning standards would likely be the same in every room. At this point we were thoroughly disillusioned and decided not to stay at that motel; we would rather continue our drive home and risk an encounter with wildlife on the road by travelling at Dusk. I returned to Reception, outlined my grievances to the Receptionist, told her we would not be staying, and asked for a refund of the amount we had paid some time ago. The Receptionist declined to refund the room rate, only reciting their 24 hour cancellation policy. I asked to speak to the Manager. The Receptionist spoke to the Manager on her phone, hung up, and only reiterated the cancellation policy. I again asked to speak to the Manager, and was offered the Receptionist's phone to speak to her. She reiterated their 24 hour cancellation policy, and stated that she, as the Front Office Manager, did not have the authority to approve a refund. I again expressed my dissatisfaction and was told that she would contact the Group Manager for instructions. Having gained no satisfaction whatsoever, I admit to getting angry at this point. I told her we would not be staying, left the room key there, and went back to the room. We packed our belongings in the car and drove on to our home. The whole experience has left me somewhat bitter. For the motel management to promote that room as a Superior Suite is nothing short of false advertising, and then to charge $190 a night for it is unconscionable. They promote the room as a Superior Suite that "offer[s] a relaxed space for a great stay". It was hardly that for us.

Great location and it is easy to walk to the centre of town. The rooms were neat and spacious, the toiletries were excellent. Parking was easy. It was good value , especially with breakfast included ( although , my husband said his poached egg had a slight vinegar tang.)

The good news is that they were genuinely friendly, the room was spacious and comfortable, the location is quite good and if you want to you could walk into town and the breakfast that was included was really nice and plentiful. The bad news is the wifi was very patchy, the TV was very old and the box that enables Foxtel and casting is a little hard to use. Finally, on Sunday morning at breakfast it was a chaotic scene with a full restaurant and only a couple of servers that were really out of their depth. Overall, it was a good stay and I’d recommend it.
