Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked the family room.. quite a big open room, half the room including the bathroom was very outdated and patched up the other half was semi modern but it did the job for us. The kitchenette had a microwave but no stove or stove top that made it a little difficult to organise meals. The owner was quite nice though, pretty casual.

Yes the outside is a bit run down, but once you're in the rooms, they are quite nice, the aircond works and its in a great central location. The guy is also very easy to deal with regarding bookings. Just stayed there, would recommend and will stay there again. Reasonably priced too.

We stayed in a deluxe room for 1 night. The room was large, clean and comfortable, with both a queen and a single bed, ample desk space, tv, cupboard and a small dining table with chairs.

The "kitchenette" facilities included a microwave, toaster, kettle, bar fridge, cutlery and crockery. There was no sink or cooktop.

The decor was quite tired - mostly looking like it dated from the 80s.

The bathroom decor (shower only, no bath) was very tired but everything was fine and in working order. The fluffy towels were a nice touch.

Our night there was very quiet.

The hotel wasn't far (2 minute drive) from Commercial st, where the majority of Mt Gambier cafes, restaurants and pubs are located.

Booked a deluxe room, needs refurbishment. Very pleasant operators , greeted well given a 200ml long life mile and told where to go. The room seemed clean but very tired , it was listed as a deluxe room with a queen bed and a single. The towels were clean and toiletries supplied were acceptable. What let the property down was it was tired and needed maintenance the bathroom are needed updating very patched up... The bed was comfortable. for budget accommodation as they say you get what you pay for.

Where do I even begin? Room was out dated and pink. Bathroom was disgusting and mouldy. The owner was a rude old man who didn't even give us our money back when we accidentally booked an extra night. Didn't give us a reason either. Do not stay here!!!!

The avalon motel: the only place you find mold in the bathroom and a shard of glass in your bed. Not even kidding. On our second night I slept in the single bed located in the main/dining area of the room (was ataying in the 4 bedroom 'suite') when i felt a pain in my foot. Closer inspection revealed a piece of broken glass between the two sheets. You guys are lucky I didn't cut myself!

Just needed somewhere for one night. looked up reviews. Bingo. It turned out to be a motel that is successfully having an interior makeover. The room was very clean, semed to be new carpet, tv, small full refig. The bathroom is spotless but old - always a costly part to redo. Just 5 min walk, turn right out the drive way to a great Thai Restaurant. hospitality good. quiet air conditioner/heater. Yes the exterior & grounds is in need of alot of T.L.C. Happy with the choice.

Took the family to Mount Gambier on the long week. Found the avalon motel over the internet and stayed in the "4 bedroom apartment". Was perfect for our family and the owners were really nice and helped us with what to go and see. The accomodation was great for the price managed to sleep all of our family, my husand, me and 4 children all for $240 per night. Was great to have a shared living area and 4 separate bedrooms.

Our room was caked with dust & mould. The shower head itself was covered in green/black scum. Definitely wouldn't pass a health & safety audit. I calmly called reception to ask if we could be moved to a different room because my partner suffers from asthma & the room was setting him off. They got very snappy & said "I don't know what his problem is" & hung up on me. At 9:30pm the male owner was banging on our door yelling & swearing at us & calling us names I won't repeat here. He informed us we were to move rooms immediately. He then proceeded to sit outside our room smoking. The smoke smell filled our room. Hardest bed I've ever had. Wort hotel I've ever stayed in. Not even exaggerating. Paid $95 for that experience.
