This is an historical pub in the Mt Schank area, often referred to as the Halfway Hotel. It is a typical country pub, no friils, great atmosphere and great food. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, typical of the many motels spread around country South Australia.
What a find!! Great meals, especially the Bellum burger, it's no wonder it's a 2019 finalist! Service was fast and all dishes were of high quality. We will be back next year with a bigger Generations in Jazz crowd!
I stayed for a couple days in autumn 2019 and really enjoyed the experience. The new chef Chris cooks delicious country size serves of a wide variety of food, The locals and staff are friendly and welcoming, the accommodation was clean and comfortable. The drive there through the rolling countryside and green padlocks was a great change of pace for a city dweller. I will certainly return to enjoy more of the great food, country pub ambience and friendly company.
Omg so huge, i couldn't eat the chips or salad cos the snitzy was so big and yummy. Great little pub inbetween mt gambier and port macdonnell well worth a stop at. Then head to the beach and walk it off cos u are goin to need to lol.
Most hospitable place you can find, real country hospitality! They make you feel like you are at home and nothing is too much trouble. For a pub in the middle of no where it is a must stop destination!
Great Value for money, we will definitely be back. Small room but it slept the 5 of us an we were happy, we only needed it for sleeping an showering as we spent our days out exploring, the rooms are very clean, comfy beds, lovely friendly staff. Wish we were staying longer. Great big pub meals too. Nice an close back to Mount Gambier or go the other way to Port MacDonnal, close to the Little Blue Lake an Mount Schank, ( worth the climb to the top ) an Ewen Ponds looks magical, next time we will snorkel them. Cya when we come back Bellum Hotel 😊
This is a very local pub not far out of Mount Gambier. We booked a family room for a single night. It looks like the pub only has 3 rooms. The room didn't have all the bells and whistles that a lot of places do these days. However it was clean and honest and for the money i can't fault it. In fact it reminded me of childhood family holidays and that's a nice thing. If stay here again for a night if going to Victoria again no problem. We ate dinner at the pub also. The serves were typical country pub size. .. HUGE. Prices were city equivalent which suprised me a bit. My only real issue about the meal i had (Greek salad with lambs) was that it was incredibly salty.
We stayed two nights in March 2017, mostly for driving around Mount Gambier and surrounding sights. The rooms were small, with old 70's carpet (reminded me of of my childhood home) and nice brickwork walls. One queen? sized bed with two single beds nearly all foot-to-foot; there wasn't much room to walk around but that wasn't a problem as we only needed a place to sleep. Internet was slow. It's all very serviceable, but not much more. Plenty of towels and soap/shampoo/conditioner provided, which was welcome. Very close to the Little Blue Lake, which was good swimming in even this time of year. 10 minutes from Mount Gambier as advertised. The pub itself was very country, with a lot of locals and helpful, lovely staff.
Great food, polite workers, great help and awesome vibe 😀 There food is A1. I'm glad I stopped in there on the way through, would go back again 😊 Everyone was friendly and welcoming and anything we needed to know they had the answers to great place all up
