Detailed Reviews
I stayed at this Motel with my son as he was competing in a sporting event in Mount Gambier. We had never stayed in a Motel before and had visions of the grim ones you see on tv where a serial killer is lurking behind every door !
Our room (40) was fabulous. It had recently been upgraded I think as it was modern and clean and huge. The bed was comfortable as was the sofa.
The bathroom was also large and refurbished with a great shower. Park right outside your room.
We ordered breakfast for the morning which was delivered right on time. It wasn’t too hot as it had been brought from a kitchen somewhere (not sure where) but it was cooked well and was delicious albeit quite expensive ($25 for eggs on toast and extra for bacon etc). I think my breakfast was around $33 which was expensive.
Very helpful lady on reception. Check in/out was very easy.

The lady in reception was friendly, helpful and informative and had checked the bush fire app when we were leaving as she knew which route we were taking. The room itself was spacious and clean with a large flat screen TV and adequate bathroom and shower. This was one of the recently refurbished rooms so I can only comment on that. We had come from the Barrossa en route to Port Fairy and this was an ideal stop over for one night. The hotel was close to a restaurant which took no more than 5 minutes walk.

Recommend the refurbished rooms only. Motel is spotlessly clean, refurbished rooms are large and well appointed. High standard of furnishings and bedding, very well done and maintained.
Con: Towels. They need to be replaced and laundering looked into, ‘white’ towels are all VERY grey, looking like they are used for cleaning. Is quite off putting. Many other properties use white towels and manage with correct laundering to keep them white. This needs attention and is my only complaint on an otherwise outstanding property.

+1
We always go to Mount Gambier in June every year and stayed in Room 22 in 2023 and were very happy with the room and the hotel in general. It would seem that, one year later, the motel is under different and dishonest management and they performed a classic bait and switch on us, taking our money for the room we wanted, but giving us a decidedly inferior room instead. On May 13, 2024 we booked to stay at the motel in June and specifically requested room 22 again. We received written confirmation from the motel that we would be able to stay in that room and that there would be no extra charge. A month and 10 days after making the booking, we arrived at the hotel and were told that, although they acknowledged our request, room 22 is now an executive room and has been filled by someone else. So, they put us in room 6, probably the worst room in the motel. The towel rail was falling out of the wall, there were no electric blankets on the beds, as there were in room 22, the TV was the smallest on the planet, the exhaust fan in the bathroom hardly worked, there was no heating in the bathroom and the spa bath had signs on it stating that the spa part of it did not work and it was a bath only. The decor was awful, the basin was dirty, the mattress sloped off to one side and clearly needed replacing and the sheets smelt of cigarette smoke. The next morning, I aired my grievances to the staff who lied and told me they didn't know about our request. We paid much more for room 6 this year than we did last year for room 22. Room 22 was lovely and modern and clean and fully functional. We will not be staying at this hotel next year.

A Cautionary Tale
In October 2022 my wife and I attempted to travel by car to Adelaide from Canberra via Bendigo and Mt Gambier. With much difficulty we made it to Bendigo through the Victorian floods and ruined roads. Travel advice made it clear we could not travel West and South through Victoria. The weather forecast indicated that even if we got to Adelaide we would be unlikely to be able to return to Canberra via NSW. I rang Presidential Motel apologising for not advising them of a cancellation within the required time but that we had delayed as long as possible in the hope of getting through. But it was clear that we couldn't.The receptionist thanked me for my advice but told me I would have to cancel via Booking. com. This I did.
Next day Booking.com advised me that they had informed the motel of our circumstances but that the motel would not waive the cancellation fee. When I protested this to Presidential Motel they said that it was Booking.com's fault because they had a policy of immediately transferring part of the booked fee to their overseas principals.
Somebody's fibbing But regardless: that Presidential Motel has so little regard and compassion for their clients says a lot about them. It also says how little they care about word of mouth assessments of them and their service policy. If the motel is right about Booking.com's cancellation policy why would any one book through them?
Either way I shall use my discretion and advise no one to risk a booking of any sort at Presidential Motel. I'll check Booking.com's cancellation policy before risking using them again.

Response from Presidential Motel, Owner at Presidential Motel
Responded 8 Nov 2022
The best way to make a booking is direct with the property. When a customer chooses to book through a third party website, they accept the terms and conditions listed on that booking site. Please remeber that third party sites charge large commission fees, don't pay taxes or employ Australians, take hundreds of millions of tax free dollars off shore annually, and leave it to small business owners to deal with their mess. The moral of this story is to avoid third party websites and deal directly with the property to avoid problems. If you choose to book via a third party, you wear the cancellation policy.

Hotel photos advertise newly renovated rooms. That was the reason we choose this hotel and paid extra $100 per night for it.
When we get there, we were presented with an extremely old and worn out room. Very bad condition
Terrible hotel. Won’t recommend it to anyone.

Stayed here recently for 3 nights in an executive twin and paid nearly $600 for the room. Found a charge of $4.64 on my credit card after checking out, for a can of coke from the mini bar which we did not take.
When I contacted management at the motel about it, they said their cleaner recorded a can of coke was taken and refused to consider that a mistake could have been made and that as far as they were concerned it's the end of the matter.
It's only a small amount of money but it's the principle of the matter. Why would I pay top dollar for a motel room and deny taking a $4 something can of coke ??
So, a word of advice to all the good people who are thinking of staying here, remember to check your mini bar daily and frequently lest something like this happens to you.

We stayed overnight on our way back to Adelaide. The lady at the reception desk was lovely. We ordered our breakfast for the next morning and she bought it to our room later that day so we could have it when it suited us in the morning. The room was large and recently refurbished. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was large and spotless. There are places to eat within walking distance from the Quality Inn. We would definitely stay here again.
