Detailed Reviews

I’m not sure when the Haven Marina changed its name from Haven Motor Inn but it hasn’t updated anything by the looks since it was built in 1970s-1980s. The motor inn has nothing to do with the marina which is across the road. The buildings themselves are in a state of disrepair and the rooms are no better. Cleaning does not appear to be a priority for this establishment as I am fairly sure the carpet has not been cleaned since it was laid, and that appears to be a long time ago, the mirrored wardrobe doors were covered in fingerprints and the bathroom mirror was a smeared mess . The gaps around our door allowed leaves to be blown in under the door, let alone the howling wind and we had to stuff the door with anything we could find to stop it from banging overnight. If you’re looking for any “extras”, don’t bother. There was no hand towel and the bath towels, bath mat and face washers looked as if they were the original towels. The only toiletries supplied were two tiny combined shampoo/conditioner bottles and two small soaps, no body lotion, shower cap or hairdryer. The rooms are not serviced until you’ve stayed for 5 nights, I cannot imagine anyone staying for that period of time. The bathroom tiles looked original and the shower curtain did not stop the water pouring onto the floor from the very old shower head. The water was only just warm enough, no need to use the cold tap. We had one teaspoon, 2 stained mugs and two water tumblers. When I asked at reception for a wine glass, although there is what appeared to be a once operating restaurant, there were none. There was no Wi-Fi in the room, although advertised. The TV remote control wasn’t working properly so I took it across to reception to ask for replacement batteries, you would have thought I was asking for a new kidney, I think I was there for a good 10 minutes waiting for these two batteries to be found and installed. Having said that when I did ask for more toilet paper the next day the staff member was very helpful. The bed to my surprise was very comfortable, the sheets were clean (I checked). At the end of the day you get what you pay for, and although it was very difficult to find accommodation in the area during the Adelaide Show, it was obvious that the prices had been increased for that period. There was supposed to be a compete redevelopment of the site in 2015, (has not occurred), so maybe they see no need to spend any money on maintenance/upgrades in case this does occur. In the meantime, do yourself a favour and find somewhere else. I will never be back. The one star was for the location, overlooking the Patawalonga Marina.

We had a travel auction for 4 days and were given room 233 upstairs north of the apartment block. The other rooms were animal friendly and there were a maximum of 6 rooms occupied over our stay. After finding our room as very small with a very outdated bathroom with white tiles stuck with white silicone to replace the missing brown tiles inside the shower and a carpet stuck to the exhaust fan we settled in for the evening. After about an hour it was getting quite cold in the room inspite of the air conditioner working and being set on 26 degrees Celsius. On inspection we removed 2 filters that looked like carpets from the air conditioner. I took the filters to the reception and explained the issue with heating and explained that the hottest place in the room was the cupboard that the fridge was in. I also bought up the lack of cleaning in the unit. To her credit the person behind the counter apologised and moved us to room 230. This was a much larger room with a separate bathroom and an extra single bed but the marina view was blocked by a large palm tree that was banging on the windows in the wind for the rest of our stay. As there was no room service because we were staying for 4 nights we watched the cleaning staff changing sheets and towels and soaps for each other room in about 10 minutes per unit each day. The day before we left I went to reception to discuss the issues with room 233 originally and talked with Paulette the shift supervisor about room 230 and the palm tree banging on the window for 3 nights and the exhaust fan so noisy that it couldn’t be on when in the main room and the fact that this fridge also was completely iced up and very hot in the cupboard it was in. We left on Friday morning and I received a courtesy call on Monday from the person who originally moved us. In that conversation she explained that the motel was “supposed to be demolished 5 years ago “. My comment to her was that social media had plenty of the same problems as we reported and I said I thought that it would be better sense for whoever books out rooms to avoid the ones that can’t be bought up to a suitable standard to rent out. Inspite of the location I believe the owners not the staff should take responsibility for renting out suitable clean rooms for customers regardless of the price of the rooms.

We booked a 2 room unit (family). Whilst staff were very polite and helpful, overall we were very disappointed in the state of the rooms. On arrival the room was not ready by the 2pm availability so we had to waste time until room had been cleaned. On entry - room was not exactly clean. Dirt running along skirting boards, mold in bathrooms, rusted connections in bathroom cupboard which was all over shelves so could not be used. Cupboards/drawers in rooms dirty/dusty and had to be cleaned before use. Small fridge in unit was rusted through door and so iced up that it would not have kept anything cold. After discussion, another fridge was brought over for use. Sliding door leading to outdoor area has to be lifted up to slide it across as rollers definitely non existent or worn. No light on outdoor area so unable to be used at night. Whilst we understand this is budget accommodation, this property really needs some attention. As rooms are not serviced daily, a broom or dustpan and brush in unit would be a good thing to have so that areas can be swept by guests as needed. So overall very disappointed with this accommodation and will not book again. I have stayed at this Inn on many occasions but the quality has certainly dropped over the years.

Room and bathroom very old, are in a bad state with mold and dirt, dirty windows and doors, the fixtures are broken in short, an absolute disgust! I didn't take a shower and slept dressed without coming into contact with sheets and mattress! To avoid!

What a run down hole, no maintenance done here for years, broken power points hanging off the wall in the main room, broken power point in the bathroom. Dirty throughout, filth carpets. When you've paid your money they then SMS you tell you they only service the room every week no matter what , when I questioned this it was basically Bad Luck answer from them. Bookings.com advert says nothing of this or that the fitness room is closed, conference room is closed, if you need milk you have to buy it from a vending machine. I guess the mattress was as old as me and I ended up sleeping in a chair as the bed was a joke. Curtains hanging down and don't fit the window so the night street lights are an issue, no fly screens on the window so you can't open them unless you want all the mozzies from the marina in the room. Trust me please don't waste your money or time here it's a mess, it's no better than back packer accommodation.

Despite many favourable reviews, the Have Marina is on its last legs.
Positive notes are:
Comfortable beds
Proximity to town centre and beach and
Affordability
I am not wishing to re-hash all of the negatives as have past contributors however, this is an aging hotel requiring hundreds of thousands of dollars of maintenance.
Bathrooms are in a poor state with mould, paint is peeling off of walls and ceilings, fixtures are broken and unable to be effectively used within the room and the general upkeep has been poor.
The restaurant has also been closed so this is no longer a bonus for the venue.
If you’re looking for backpacker accommodation, Haven Marina will suit nicely.

We used to stay at the Haven Marina regularly until a couple of years ago when we moved to the East Coast. Breakfast USED to be good and the rooms were ok, but not flash.
We stayed in April and it was sad to see how the morel has gone downhill. The owners have stopped serving breakfast, but have not put amenities to eat breakfast such as bowls and cutlery in the rooms.
We stayed 3 nights, but on checking in I was told that there would be no room service / making beds, changing towels. If we wanted fresh towels, we would have to go to reception and exchange them - poor service for what we paid.
When I asked for some bowls and cutlery, the only things that could be found were 3 paper bowls and 3 spoons. (Luckily for us Ikea was 10 mins down the road...)
The fridge is tiny and parts were broken making it hard to put much in (basic things like milk).
There was a plumbing issue in the bathroom which was promptly fixed, but other rooms that we have stayed in also had plumbing issues.
Sadly the paintwork outside is in decay along with rotting wood visible. Inside the rooms look tired with worn carpet - a coat of paint, new carpet, new tiles and bathroom fittings would breathe life back into the motel.
I managed to find some old food scraps that someone who previously stayed in the room had left behind - I'm glad I didn't see under the bed sheets.
Parking can be tricky especially if you get in late. If you're up the back you will have to reverse out the whole driveway.
Sharon is a true asset to the motel.
I wrote to the owners / manager 6 weeks ago and am still waiting for a response.........
Next time we come to Glenelg, we'll be finding a new place to stay.

I have stayed in this Motel numerous times over the last 10 years and it has gone down hill rapidly.
1. Coffee cups stained around the rim. A guest from another room said their cups has black scum in the bottom of each cup.
2. TV remote was extremely dusty, we have to use wipes on it, and as a safeguard on every other device in the room, iron, kettle etc.
3. Air in the pipes so that every time you flushed our had a shower and constant thumping came from the wall. Same sound when our adjourning neighbour did the same.
4. Stairs on far end are falling apart and metal reinforcing bars protruding from concrete, very dangerous descending at night, could possibly tear an Achilles.
5. Very tired, paint peeling, toilet stained, looking like a major renovation is way overdue.
6. Bushels fine grain coffee, come on guys, a bit of quality in your amenities would not cost you a fortune.
Unfortunately, although the location is fantastic, I will be looking elsewhere in the future.

Dear Chris, Thank you for your review, it is disappointing to hear such a review from a valued guest over the past few years. As a valued customer I am sure you would have heard of the new development we were previously going to be complete, this did impact any changes made to the property from the past 10 years. As this development has been placed on hold, we were on review to face lift our rooms however as COVID impacted this had been pushed back to 2021. We are an older property that has its characteristics, we offer comfortable reasonability sized clean rooms with a great location for a reasonable price. It is a shame you will not be willing to return, hopefully you will give us a second chance once we have the opportunity to update inside and outside our rooms. Kindest Regards, Ebony

Worn carpets. No HD TV. No soap container in the shower cubicle. The one window that could be opened had a thick layer of black dirt in the guttering - looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. The clothing storage cupboards were very dusty and I needed to clean them before placing my clothes. The staff were polite.

Motel vibes, a bit basic and aged, which didn't really match the high price point. The pool area was private, but unfortunately the water was too cold to swim. Service was friendly and helpful. The location is across a great playground and the airport bus is about a 2 minutes walk.
