We were so impressed by the helpful and friendly staff at the Abacus Motel in Mt Isa. After a last minute change of plans for accommodation, we were able to get a dog friendly room with early check in, so our young baby son could have a mid day sleep.

Staff went above and beyond to make our stay happen, and continued being helpful and friendly throughout the entire stay.

The rooms were very comfortable and had everything we needed to have a restful nights sleep. Plenty of bins out the front, so you could clean out your car and drop doggy bags/ nappies off outside the room.
Beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean and well appointed.

The onsite restaurant made yummy dinner and breaky the next morning. We were able to utilise the Landry and get on top of our washing and even got them all dry.

We felt safe as the motel is in the outskirts of Mt Isa and had no issues with having our car parked at the front of our room, in the undercover parking.

Thank you for making our stay at Mt Isa just a pleasant one.

Highly recommend Abacus Motel!

I must say that without a doubt this is the friendliest and most welcoming motel that I have stayed at in many years.
The staff were so friendly and helpful from the time I called to make a reservation.

We were going to be late, after 8:00pm, driving from the NT.
We were told that the arrival time didn’t matter and they would make sure our key and room was ready. Around 8:00pm staff called to make sure we were travelling safely and to check for an update on our ETA.

Once we arrived we received a warm welcome and even though the kitchen was closed they still arranged a meal for us.

The room is clean, well appointed, quiet and comfortable. We then found out that the motel is pet friendly!! Next time we travel with our furry family we will definitely stay here.

There is ample sizeable parking at the room which makes unpacking after a day on the road that bit easier.

There is even a bucket and window squeegee to clean your windscreen. A complimentary cheese board on arrival, who does all this these days? Nobody else!!!

We will definitely be staying here on our return journey and will tell all our friends and colleagues about this gem so they too can enjoy this oasis.

After having a shaky start when our online booking didn’t secure our room, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. They rang other accommodation trying to find us somewhere else to stay in Mt Isa but everything was booked out. They then (at 8.00pm) offered to clean a room that had been vacated late in the day while we ate a great meal in their restaurant after they arranged for their chef to stay late to take our out of hours order. Can’t recommend this place highly enough. Great staff who were very helpful, friendly and pleasant.

Thanks to Abacus Pet Friendly Motel for a friendly comfortable stay for the family and pet dog.
To walk through the room to the seperate fenced section for the pet to walk around provides security and privacy. The room low front windows allows the pet to look outside at the family undercover parking. Very accomodating and easy for pet care.

After along day driving it was wonderful to be greeted with a smiling face and a desire to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
Our room was spotless and fresh and our little dog was accommodated with enclosed area at the back of the room.
Had a room service dinner from the restaurant which was top class.

Thank you to management and staff for this little oasis, we will be back.

Neat as a pin and so very welcoming.
We booked a king spa room and we were very happy.
This is an older style motel, and yes it needs a bit of a facelift, but it is obvious that it is well cared for and money reinvested as the owners can afford to.
Lovely details were things like chocolates and bath salts on the bed in a little gift pouch, battery operated candles for ambiance, the remotes sanitised, soft fluffy robes, complimentary bottled water, a bucket a squeegee at your front door to clean the bugs off your windscreen, a front sitting area and under cover parking PLUS a private back courtyard! Wow!
Loved the big comfy bed and pillows and the large spa was perfect for a soak. Great sized TV. Microwave, kettle, toaster.....so many things to help make the stay comfortable.
The wonderful service and attentiveness filtered through to the room service from their great restaurant as well. As I have specific food allergies, they worked hard to find me something to eat and dinner was delicious.
Thank you for a great stay guys. We really appreciated it after a long drive.

This motel is an oasis in the outback. Rooms are modern and clean.
Staff are so friendly and welcoming.
Plenty of parking.
The restaurant atmosphere was warm and the food excellent.
Best of all for travellers is they are pet friendly. It is hard to find a pet friendly motel and after a long journey The Abacus is such a welcome stopover.
There should be more business targeting pet loving travellers, who wants to or can fly with airlines that rip you off or cancel your flights. Great value too!!

We went to dinner at the abacus last night and hands down best meal in the isa. It’s our go to place to eat out and it never disappoints. I ordered the 300g Sirloin and it was juicy, tender, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection!
At this place you ask for the steak how you like it and everytime you get what you ask for (unlike other establishments where you have to ask for it under how you like it so by the time you get it it’s kind of close to how you want it cooked) the sides I ordered were the garlic buttered beans and creamy mash with dianne sauce and it was all a 10/10. The husband ordered the bbq pork ribs for his main and he also enjoyed them they fell off the bone and had their nice glaze on them the potatoes could have been a little crisper but that won’t dampen our experience at all bloody fantastic meal and atmosphere.

Thank you to the amazing staff for having us and we will definitely be back.

Friendly helpful staff. We received a lovely little cheese platter on arrival and the room had Kingaroy Kitchen cookies instead of the standard Arnotts biscuits. Great restaurant on site. It's out near the airport but on the main road so only a short trip into the town centre.

This motel was amazing. We were so impressed by the cleanliness of our room which included a checked off list by the staff member, Ray, and the controls for the air conditioning and tv were bagged after cleaning. Coming from Victoria this was so important to us. Our meal from the restaurant was excellent. If we are ever back this way, we will definitely stay here again.
