Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent location, big hostel were it will be easy to get to know new people - common area is huge. Pool and jacuzzi much appreciated - especially for socialisation and in the unfortunated days of rain. The rooms were very clean and cozy, i was staying in a 4-beds dorm. Highly recommended!

AMAZING HOSTEL. I have stayed in many hostels previously but this one is 100% the best one I stayed in. Beds are like small cubicles which gives you a bit of privacy while the common areas are very social, clean and modern. Also nice to have the ensuite bathroom. Decorations and overall style beautiful and modern. Shout out to receptionist Marin and manager Jennifer for doing an amazing job.

Some one once said to me that Gold Coast is the Las Vegas of Australia. If that is the case then Bunk may be likened to the Bellagio. Upon entering your room, you immediately double check you’re in the right place and not some luxury resort, as how often do hostels come with an en-suite bathroom, private balcony and decent beds? After admiring the room you venture on to the balcony and gaze out over your kingdom of concrete buildings and people with more plastic in their face than there is plastic in the ocean. In fact, if you squint your eyes hard enough you can actually see the ocean from your balcony! You get changed and go for a swim in the pool downstairs, read a book on the deck chairs and play some pool in the lobby. Now that you’ve made from friends, you go to the rooftop bar next door and then hit up the Gold Coast night clubs. There’s no need to worry about how you’re getting back as everything is within walking distance. Welcome to the backpacker’s high life.

To start with the pros, there is a good amount of privacy in the rooms due to the bed layout and the hostel in a convenient location for everything in Surfers Paradise. However, the hostel is dirty and dark and cramped. The kitchen is disgusting and it’s impossible to find utensils to cook/eat with. The kitchen also shuts at 9pm, and given the small size of it this doesn’t leave much room for everyone staying there to cook should they wish to. Onto the rooms, the safes weren’t locked shut already and the light next to my bed and the main light was broken so we were left in darkness most of the time. The bathroom was dirty, although it is nice to have an en-suite in the room. The biggest issue I had was a safety/security concern as we were woken up at 5am one morning to a random naked girl climbing into one of my roommates beds - don’t know how she got in. Reception were apologetic and advised they would check security cameras but this shouldn’t have happened in the first place and actually resulted in me checking out 3 days early as I did not feel safe. Staff at check in were rude and there were people having sex in the pool one night. Overall an awful stay and safe to say I’ll never be returning to this hostel. Save your money and book elsewhere.

Stayed here for a few nights with a tour group, the pool was closed due to maintenance work being done to the balcony’s of the rooms facing the pool area which started at an annoying 7am!! Gave us access to Goldies pool and discount at Goldies for food and drinks which was great. The rooms were great but mine was slightly dimly lit compared to others in the group. Literally 5 minutes to the beach, great bars right around the corner and the greyhound stop is right around back. Couldn’t have asked for better

Nice hostel, very clean and a decent sized room. Happy with our stay and enjoyed the jacuzzi in the evenings once the sun had gone in. Lots of long term residents but still seems very clean. Breakfast was refilled quickly when asked, but did need to speak to someone for this to happen. Overall, great location and nice place to stay.

We really enjoyed our stay in Bunk, the staff and common areas were high quality and similar to what you would expect from a hotel. We were allowed to check in early and the room was tidy and felt relatively up to date. There is a shared bathroom (between 6) and a balcony area which brightened up the room. The beds were comfy and there were lockers and power points for each bed. There is also a great pool area with a jacuzzi which was nice to chill and meet people. The kitchen is spacious and clean although the deposit for a plate and cutlery seemed a bit ridiculous. The highlight of this hostel was the restaurant and bar next door which all patrons of the hostel were given 20% off food and drinks. The breakfast and lunch menus were relatively limited but the food was amazing and great value for money. The only real downside of this hostel was the lack of social events but overall I would definitely come back for a holiday!

The rooms are way to small, we really had problems fitting our luggage in, I imagine it being even worse if your travelling on your own and having to share a room with strangers - very inconvenient. Also the beds were really itchy and I had an allergic reaction on my skin, but the worst part was the kitchen. I’ve never seen such a dirty cooking area, you don’t want to eat there. What freaked me out was the elevator because it was super super slow while the bathroom was good but not lockable…

When I first checked into this hostel, I was told by the concierge personnel that if I wanted to stay in an 8 bedroom dorm at the lowest price possible, I had to show a valid passport instead of a driver's license even when I am holidaying in my own country, let alone intrastate. Instead of that, I was upgraded to a one single bedroom with a private bathroom but had to pay extra upon arrival which is ridiculous. As much as I love travelling and staying in budget accommodation, I wouldn't stay in one when it discriminates against their own citizens.

Hostel was okay, rooms were good with our private bathroom/toilet with 2 other people. But the lift wasn’t that great and also we noticed that I they didn’t look like they we’re going to clean our used blankets when we handed them in.
