Detailed Reviews

Allow at least 4 months to get your days done guys!
Bad weather or end of seasons at farms or just random decisions by farmers means you get a fair few days off. We finished our days with 6 days left on our 1st year!
The Grand is partly owned with Dingo Blue hostel which is 10 minute walk away, despite the Grand being really old and in serious need of renovation it is the preferred of the two.
Our rent increased to $210 in March from $190 and we was told this is because of renovations... we only saw a new roof! But speak of more washing machines, a cooler room, new floor and few other things were said but still had not happened by June.
Downstairs is The Grand pub which is good on a Thursday night - the owner is always desperate for service though... advertising in the hostel and claiming you can't drink in the hostel upstairs.
The bathrooms are pretty clean - Susan the cleaner is a very loud morning person, it was normal for a few people to be woken up by her voice in the mornings or try and avoid getting stuck talking to her! Haha
The kitchen is not the best! leaking fridges, regularly blocked sinks, chipboard table and it gets very hot in there at night. But after the cleaner has cleaned it every weekday it is bareable. You just get used it... everyone is in the same boat getting on with it.
We got trapped at this hostel because IT DID give regular work. It's best to get a room with a balcony if you want to be social. There is limited socialising areas. It's the same rent price for ALL rooms, single or max 6 bed dorm. There is a big tv in kitchen/ lounge for movie nights. The people who lived there the same time as us turned into our family and friends for life and we all kept each other going. Farm life is hard going but you do get used to it and have fun.
Bundaberg I feel is one of the best places to get your farm work - it is a farm city! And expect to do a variety of different jobs/experiences.

With a good dozen hostels to choose from selecting the Grand Hotel turned out to be the wisest for numerous reasons. Location, right downtown in the thick of it and the character of the hotel from years gone by are a brief sample. She's a grand dame and Jarod, the proprietor sees to the details meticulously. Your living history here and will find your stay comfortable without confusion.

Worst hostel I've ever stayed in.. complete con artists. Do not stay here. You will not get what's promised. The bar/restaurant downstairs is however not too bad. Decent food and cheap grog. But do not stay. If you're after farm work go elsewhere. As a former manager here I speak from experience

Where to begin!!!!! First of all I had to travel from Sydney to this town and had to leave at a time to meet the rude people at the desk. They only work from 4.00pm to 5.00pm. On checking in they seem to take a lack of interest on the person checking in or being at anyway helpful. They only want your money. $190 for a dormitory sharing with four others. For a town like Bundaberg!!!!!!! The dormitory itself was appalling. The kitchen was so unclean and had food lying everywhere. They didn't even provide utensils or crockery for the people staying in the hostel. The bathrooms were a disgrace and always smelled bad. Over the weekend the toilet bowels were full of urine and faeces. They didn't bother to pay a cleaner for the hostel over the weekend. Absolutely atrocious. Melissa the manger only seems bothered on taking money from the people. If you ask her advice she wasn't very helpful. Daylight robbery in this place. Also the German girl on the desk was very rude and they only speak to people in the hostel that they want to. If these people worked in more professional establishments god help the people. I'm not one for complaining but this place really is the pits. Avoid if you are a backpacker. The people here are unlawful, arrogant and basically don't give a toss about the surroundings in the hostel. I only stayed here one week. I feel sorry for the people who have to stay their for 88 days. Should be shut down. Also it's opened 24 hours the main door with no security or night porter. Biggest mistake of my life was coming here. Will give you nightmares. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Stayed in the Grand for almost 3 months, got about 7 days work in total, the kitchen has a microwave and a sink.... nothing else! DISGUSTING, the bedding was repulsive and the management was a JOKE, all she wanted to do was party with the guests (that is when you could find her!) They pretend to have a work rota, but the work goes to the people shes friendly with, most of the work they find are from an overflow from other hostels. Stay anywhere else if you want work!!!!

If u already arrived at this hostel, plz turn around and go another accomodation.
If u wanna find great farm work, wise and kind staff and quiet place to sleep, plz change ur mind. I am begging u.
In our case, for 1month, I just had worked twice a week so I could dominate a hostel a lot of money(we just received money around 100 aud but hostel rentals was much expensive than our wage)
Plus, it is easy to be awaken in early morning by urself cuz many cars with roaring sound give u fresh morning when u are sleeping how economical! U don't need any alarms.
If u have listened about great farm work and they promised that they would send u go another farm, so if u have dilemma between previous job and new job u don't need to worry.
They will never send u go another jobs with nice wage
They are perfect Hollywood actors if u ask them about new jobs few days after they will say to u that it is not my responsibility so u have to ask another staff. I forgot their nicknames for a moment. They were volleyball player cuz they are good at tossing their responsibility.
In spite of these reasons, if u wanna go this hostel, just shot urself. Sorry my strong words but i could not pop up great word and i just wanna u avoid this place.
