Detailed Reviews
We booked this room last minute through wotif and must admit we were pleasantly surprised! Two bedroom villa in a very quiet location opposite hospital. Room was very neat and tidy and even included a continental breakfast. Beds comfortable, shower had good pressure and towels were brilliant!! Great value for money :-)

After the some of the slum Motels in Bundy-- this was very good , Peta rang me twice to make sure i could get in with no hassle
nice secure parking , room was pretty good , great air con, & good reception on TV
clean bedding ,all crisp & white , only 2 little gripes , the basin & the shelf above it ,wont allow you to wash your face without water running down to the floor & the walls are a tad thin ,but the people i noticed who were there ,were nice quiet people , not the normal moteliers , Kitchen was clean & cool with 2 aircon's going 24/7. everything you need -cereal's milk eggs toast etc ,I enjoyed this stay ,well done keep up the good work
will use you again

nice large room with everything we needed, large communal kitchen meaning we could save on eating out, comfortable bed. Check in was not as straightforward as it could be as there is no reception, but it wasn't a big deal. Nice quiet area. Other guests were quiet and respectful. There are places more centrally located, but we were happy to be in a quiet area. We would stay here again.

The pictures and website look good enough, and it was serviceable, but highly disappointing. No reception, difficulties contacting anyone about how we check in were the start. I wouldn't advertise that a continental breakfast was available with only a container of muesli for a cereal selection and having to clean up yourself. Not what I want on a holiday.
Also extent to which the facilities are shared were not advertised on the website - Austar/kitchen facilities/breakfasts. No response in requests for more adequate toiletries. Our king bed were two beds pushed together - something I'd expect at a backpackers. Agree on the stained carpets
Would have been happier if this had been advertised and priced as it actually is. Don't let the photos fool you.

I work in Bundaberg every 3 months and I used to always stay here as it was always clean value for money and the other guest respectful of each other. I had found another place to stay recently and have always kept this place as backup.
Last time I was in Bundaberg I couldn't get into my usual place so I used my back up. Things started off well until the other guests arrived.I would wake up in the mornings go to the kitchen for breakfast and be disgusted by the filth and mess these PIGS expected me to eat in and the stink of burnt meat just lingered in the kitchen and throughout the house.the whole week I was there I was greeted to this mess every morning as the PIGS (guests) would make the mess then hop in their cars and go .
This was a top place and I feel I dont really want to share a kitchen with people again.

Response from Peta H, Manager at Alexandra Lodge
Responded 6 June 2013
Hi Tony, We are very sorry your stay wasn't the experience you have had in the past. Our guests are normally very thoughtful of all other guests on site. We will look at what can be done to ensure all guests stays are enjoyable. Regards Management.

At first I was pleasantly surprised when I first walked into the house as the kitchen was spacious, had all the facilities and was clean.
Then I walked into the room I was allocated and was instantly disappointed.... There were two large holes in the wall with the paint cracked in various areas. There was no window so I felt like I was in a jail cell and one morning I woke up to a massive cockroach on the door and tiny little ones in the shower. I contacted the owners about this as I wasn't happy. They were apologetic and gave me a refund straight away which was good.

My brother and I stayed in the two bedroom detached villa at the back of the lodge overnight.
It was comfortable and quiet and well located. Just a little hard to find first up with the railway track dividing off the road. There is another street with a similar name nearby...so be extra observant about the street address when you are heading there for the first time.
What was especially good about staying at Alexandra Lodge was that there were very generous provisions left to cook a nice hearty breakfast in the morning....very homey and reasonably priced. Would have been more than comfortable if we'd had a longer stay there and would visit again.

Because of train arrival times I turned up at 10 p.m. The owners who don't live or have staff on site) had given me instructions on how to access the locked key box to get into the building after hours. It didn't work for me but as there was a phone number, I called. The lady came, used the digits then gave the box a whack. Open sesame! Happy grateful customer.
The room was clean and spacious enough for one customer. The breakfast was ample and there was choice - cereal, toast, eggs, juice, tea and coffee - self serve in the kitchen/dining area. All customers cleaned up after themselves.
Alexandra Lodge is a converted house. Definitely a place to be recommended, and the tariff was good, particularly in the down season. (Prices quoted on internet booking sites were considerably more than that paid directly to the owners, and at the last minute.)

Their website refers to "boutique accommodation" - dictionary defines as "fashionable" which it certainly is not. "Luxury awaits" - the website agains refers to "fully renovated 2006" with "quality decor", "beautifully presented", "regular housekeeping" etc. Read very carefully - perhaps this refers to the apartment but it is easy to interpret as describing the rooms, which have peeling wallpaper, carpets from the 1960s or maybe 1970s, no bedside nightstand for a table lamp unless you buy an extension cord and place the small table lamp with its broken lampshade in the bathroom doorway, and an air conditioner in the common hallway that sounds like a passing train. The free wifi is what you pay for - intermittent, with download speeds I measured from 0.03 - 0.11 Mbps (which is almost unusable). As I said, the apartment may live up to these descriptions but the "Lodge" rooms do not. Buyer beware!
