This hotel is mainly for families. It was very busy, very noisy and not relaxing at all but then I guess it is a beach hotel.
We stayed two nights and upgraded to a sea view which I recommend. The room itself was average but comfortable enough.
The hotel had only 2 lifts which for the size of it was not sufficient but as one of the lifts was broken all the time we were there, it was not acceptable. There were often queues to get into the lift and although we did take the stairs down, it was too far up to take the stairs up as well.
The noise at breakfast was extreme with so many people in the room and so the first day we went outside on the terrace. However, the presence of metal plate covers should have warned us that we would have another problem of the feathered variety.
Despite paying a fairly high price for our room, breakfast was done on the cheap and not very environmentally friendly. We were disturbed to see that no china cups were available and coffee was in throw away cups with plastic lids. A coffee station outside was available but only one person trying to cope with a large amount of different coffee orders, I had to wait 25 minutes for my coffee by which time I had eaten my food and ready to go. A do-it-yourself machine was available but no option for decaffeinated coffee (I am allergic to caffeine).
We wouldn't stay here again and try to find somewhere a bit more couples friendly.

Dear 955rosieb, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay at Novotel Northbeach. Yes, our hotel is very family friendly and has always been. Given the location it certainly makes it easier for the parents with their children. However I do understand the slight disappointment you would of experienced wanting a relaxing/romantic weekend away. Please accept my sincerest apologies in relation to the lift not operating when you stayed. We were waiting on parts to fix the issue. You will be pleased to know our lifts are now working. In relation to your breakfast I do understand your disappointment with the noise from the restaurant. Not only is it popular with our guest but also our locals. Our take away coffee cups and lids are completely bio degradable. We do have china wear available too. We do hope you will give us another opportunity to stay with us. Once again, thank you for your feedback Kind Regards, Rebecca Blackwell Guest Relations Manager.

Excellent location and staff / service are very good.

Like most Novotel Hotels in Australia, facility is tired & in need of an update.

1 of 2 lifts was out of action over our stay .. 3 nights over New Year period, leaving long ques to get up the lift or walk up the stair well ... we were in the 6th floor.

Our Ocean View room with Balcony ( the most expensive room options ) was at the rear of the Hotel, overlooking the Hotel roof. Not good value for money & not mentioned when booking.

Parking is available at $15.00 per day, underneath, but is very tight. Beware if you have a 4WD.

Breakfast Buffet is very good and Hotel is located close by to many dining options. The in house Restaurant ( Windjammers ) is very good value for money.

Will return to this location, but will look for alternate accommodation.

This has been a long term planned destination, the weather forecast has always been the precursor however. Great hotel, superb position and excellent view off the coast. Staff are very friendly, professional and helpful. For an adhoc walk in off the street booking the check in process was simple and swift. (Being an Accor Hotels member probably helped). We were offfered two types of room and free breakfast thrown in as a bonus! Room was very clean with a good size bathroom. Car parking is a paid affair, waived on this occasion due to a technical fault. Another bonus! Thanks. Breakfast options were aplenty and nice in the dining area on ground level overlooking the beachfront. The lounge area on the ground floor is a nice spot to relax and had live entertainment.
Only a few small matters that were below average. China coffee cups were scarce in the dining area, too many single use ones available. Breakfast cereals could carry naming labels and more variety. Also the two chairs in the room showed signs of water damage four inches up on each leg. Something that should have been addressed. I wonder why there's no exhaust/steam removal fan etc. in the bathroom to prevent a fogged up mirror?
We're prepared to stay again for sure, depending on the tariff.

Stayed in an ocean view room on the 8th floor for 2 nights after a trip to Sydney. When we arrived there were two females at reception talking to each other. They did not stop talking when we reached reception and neither of them acknowledged us until they had finished their conversation. There was no greeting or smile in what would become the normal standard of service that we encountered during our stay.

We checked in and went to our room. The pervasive smell of mould that was strong in the corridor was overwhelming inside the room. There was angry black mould on the bathroom ceiling. On the upside the view down the coast was stunning and obviously the basis of the quite high room rate. Disappointingly the room contained 2 queen sized beds. For our purposes one bed and a lounge to relax on would have been preferable. If you wanted to watch TV you had to sit/lie on the bed which wasn't a problem on the first night as the whole building had no TV reception.

We went to the windjammers restaurant that first night at a cost of $65/head, plus drinks for the seafood buffet. We arrived at 7.40pm and the striking feature of this experience was the apathy of the staff. We told 2 separate staff members that there were no spoons, but the 2 spoon baskets were never refilled. At both dinner and the breakfast buffet each morning patrons tended to stack their own dirty plates on vacant tables due to the general staff reluctance to clear the table. We never received a cheery greeting upon arrival at the restaurant and, in fact, on the last morning we waited at the front for a considerable period for someone to come out. A male staff member kept glancing over at the lengthening queue at the door but didn't feel compelled to do anything about it. Finally a young woman came out of the kitchen, came over, and said " you staying at the hotel?" No "good morning", no smile, in fact her whole demeanor suggested that we were a terrible inconvenience to her. This was endemic amongst the restaurant staff. Although breakfast finishes at 10 the general clearing away starts before that and the coffee cart outside was closed down by 9.50am. By 10am we were told we couldn't sit there any more as they needed to set up for lunch. We ordered 2 coffees to be brought to the lobby bar which took over 20 mins and the order was wrong when it arrived. The buffet plates were not always clean.

We were shocked to see that breakfast coffee was served only in disposable coffee cups, whether barista made at the cart, or self made at the automatic machine. Obviously Novotel are not jumping on the environmental bandwagon.

My husband found the admittedly soft mattress prevented him from sleeping, although I didn't find it too bad.

Overall we have never seen a more disinterested staff in such a stunning location.

staff were great but with the fact of covid and renovations I made exceptions but the room (626) city view. entered the room to see it had a old tv with only free to air no bluetooth or internet options and the mini fridge freezer melted the ice cream. And the aircon was broken so the room was cold all night the hallway was warmer didn't sleep very well. and that roof top view was pretty poor opened the blind to a pretty bad view of the roof needs a garden or something. I feel like for it being the only hotel near the water and claiming a premium on pricing it should be keeping in-room appliances upto date and experience fresh not like I stayed in a time capsule from 2001. who ever owns/manages probably needs to stay at a hotel in the city that's charging the same prices and realise how much this place is lacking and falling short

Location is Fabulous. Our View was fabulous. Staff very friendly and helpful. Aircon in room great. Our first time in a Novotel Hotel and this was recommended by a few friends who visit frequently. However, on arrival in our room the first thing we saw was a smudgy glass table. OK not a huge dilemma. Then we cracked open a bottle of sparkling wine. Only glasses available in the whole room were 2 glass tumblers that usually reside in the bathroom of other hotels we have stayed in! Ok not a huge dilemma again! However after pouring our wine and my husband has had a gulp he discovered this white sediment stuck to the bottom of the glass. Stale milk? Apart from these "minor" Issues . When I booked I was unaware that the hotel was under major renovations. I had seen that the pool was under renovations and was closed when I booked but actual restaurants and bars were also closed. Apart from the price being still the same as normal we also had to pay $25 for parking. which we paid for. But even that had issues. As the renovations were happening during week days the top exit was closed. Only one was open, sort of! We had to wait several minutes after contacting the front desk for it to finally open properly. this happened several times. We haven't used hotels very often and this was a special time for us after my husband hadn't been well. And well, yes it did spoil our little get away a little. Would we go back again? Not so sure.

Hi Ghilart, Thank you for taking the time to provide your constructive feedback on your recent stay with us. It is great to hear that you enjoyed our location, view and found our staff to be accommodating and helpful, at Novotel Wollongong we strive to provide all of our guests with exceptional customer service so it is fantastic to hear that this was experienced during your stay. It is disappointing to hear that there were some issues regarding the cleanliness in your room, due to COVID-19 we have implemented extra precautions so I will ensure that this feedback is brought to light with our housekeeping manager to ensure that this is being adhered to. Apologies that you were not aware of the closure of the restaurant during the week, this has been implemented due to the decrease to the number of travelers during the week, apologies that this had caused an inconvenience to your stay. It is disappointing that your trip away with us was ruined by these inconvenience, this is definitely not the experience we would like our guests to undergo while staying with us. As we have some new and exciting facilities opening in the upcoming weeks, I would love the opportunity to accommodate you and your husband again in the near future. Stayed here in December and it was a terrible experience. I tried emailing the hotel chain and still hqve not received a reply 7 weeks later. The power went out the first night and they said it would be back on in 15 minutes. Power never came back on. We went to bed woke up at 6am and the power was still out, went to the front desk they acted like they couldn't careless and said it should be on around lunchtime. Gave us a flashlight to use if we needed to go to the washroom and to have a shower. But when I got to the room and went to take a shower the flashlight was dead. Asked where we could get coffee since we couldn't make it in our room and they said the restraunt should be open. The guy working in the restraunt (and I use the term working very lightly) he's seemed annoyed I went to ask him how much a coffee he said I don't know I think its free. I asked if I could make one or need to wait for him he replied I am a little busy setting up make one if you want. Their staff really needs more training and a lesson on customer service. We paid for a ocean view room and asked for a high floor when booking. We got the lowest floor possible with an ocean view if you looked over the roof of the lobby. The only helpful staff was the housekeeper she was lovely. For the price of the hotel they need to do some updating and treat their guests a lot better and with more respect. Even though we had no power for about 12 hours they never once apologized or affected any sort of compensation. Didn't even offer to comp the parking for the two nights. Do yourself a favor and find a different hotel.

It's quite a strange hotel. You can't go past the views, and the rooms are nice enough with comfortable beds and reasonably spacious bathrooms. But the rest of it is just plain weird.

The entrance from either the beach side or the carpark is cavernous and not inviting in any sense. The reception staff were welcoming and friendly, but it's not immediately obvious where they are! The front dining/restaurant looks like a school canteen and sounds like one with all the clattering noise. The ground floor bar/lounge is decked out like a staff room from the 1960s and has zero atmosphere. So if you want. to get a coffee or a bite to eat, do yourself a favour and go to the little cafe on the corner called Mudcat Cafe. Same view, much nicer experience, such a contrast.

Taking one of the two lifts (if they're working) feels like you're rolling the dice for a safe arrival at your floor, and when you do there's still nothing inviting or pleasant about it.

It's totally over priced. Cashing in on a stunning view is one thing but you can't just rely on that... although it seems as though you can because they're always busy.

Booked a standard city view room for just under $300. Accomodation options in Wollongong seem pretty limited and generally aren't cheap or good value for some reason. Check in was easy and staff are very good.

The room its self was very clean with a nice view and well appointed but the walls and windows were paper thin - could hear a child screaming in the next room, people coming and going along the corridor, cars racing along the street and even the pedestrian crossing lights. As others have noted, the beds are awful. Lumpy, overly soft on one side, slightly firmer on the other. All these things didn't make for a great nights sleep.

The building is pretty old and undergoing renovation to restaurants etc. They need to consider replacing the lifts as they are old and the wait at peak times is ridiculous.

Probably would look at staying elsewhere next time, unless they replace the windows and beds.

Hi nimeton1, We appreciate you taking the time to provide your constructive feedback. It is fantastic to hear that you had a great check-in experience. I am sorry that there was difficulty getting to sleep with the surrounding noise, for your future stays with us, please bring it to the attention to our reservations team that you would prefer to be situated on a higher floor which will minimize these noise issues. Again, when booking with our reservations team, you can request a firmer bedding option which can also be arranged for your room. In regards to our lifts, this was a plan to update prior to COVID-19 but unfortunately had to be put on standby. As we have our new and exciting facilities re-opening soon, it is my hope that we can welcome you back to experience this. Pluses - location is unbeatable. Beach is across the road with walks/cafes/bicycle track/ocean, rock pool and pool swimming/surfing. Historical pics line the walkways. Views from ocean side rooms stunning. In room dining available for breakfast, lunch and dinner or a pop up venue for breakfast is on level 4. The big breakfast was beautifully plated and a treat. Anyone who can eat it all - well done you. Bourke Street side has a bus stop to hail the free city circuit bus. Catch it to see the Crown St shopping area or stay on it to visit the delightful Botanic Garden opposite Wollongong Uni. Staff were all unfailingly cheerful and attentive. Minuses - reno work noisy at times, room mattress lacked support, lack of signage on building plus address is Cliff Rd but entrance is Bourke Street. Look forward to returning when reno work finished and more of Wollongong’s public spaces have reopened, e.g., galleries/museums.
