Nice size rooms with empty bar fridge. Hot shower.

Our room did not get cleaned until after 4.30 pm.

The majority of the staff are friendly & helpful.

Reception staff very friendly & helpful.

Coffee tea & milk supplied.

Unfortunately some quests left early as one of the lifts were out which left long waits for the other or you could use the stairs 11 floors in total.

We stayed over new year which is a little pricey, breakfast extra which they offer for $20 when checking in,normally $30, should be included. Not worth it. That is our opinion & the opinion of other guests, food lukewarm even cold ,we only ate there one morning.

Parking offered for $25.

The do other free selected drinks & a few nibbles. 4.30 to 5pm.

Happy hour 5 - 6 pm. Drinks $5 each.

We have noticed on sites like Groupon they do offer at times rooms for $145 night incl breakfast & parking.

We had bought a 2 night deal with breakfast with Groupon for $279. This was an absolute bargain.
The Sage Hotel is a little tied, needing new carpet and two working lifts. The location adjacent to the Win Stadium and close to the beach and the CBD of Wollongong is perfect.
Our room was clean, tidy and well appointed. The room overlooked the pool as well as glimpses of the ocean and hinterland.
There was a full bar with a happy hour between 5 and 6 pm with $5 beers and $7 standard spirits.
Breakfast was a buffet with choice of cereals, hot breakfast, pancakes, fruit and pastries.
Friendly staff ensuring your stay was comfortable.

There were such mixed reviews about this hotel when I was looking to stay in Wollongong. We made the decision to book this hotel and I have to say we were very happy with the location, room (we got a balcony - well worth it) and the reception staff were very helpful checking us in early, recommending a restaurant and even letting us know about the free, safe parking out the front. Thus I wanted to post a positive recent review.

We stayed here on a work conference very disappointing. Lifts, one was out of order the other extremely slow, which made us 20 minutes late to our conference. Every time we would try to get on a lift after waiting so long for it to arrive, they would be so full that we had to wait again.
No water to make Tea coffee day one
Hot water for our Tea was cold on both day 2 and 3 in the conference rooms.
Air conditioner on the 3rd day in the 2nd conference room was extremely loud we had to turn it off and sweat, towels were laid across the fall under it from what seemed to be leaking water.
No hand towels in the main toilets on the 3rd floor, we went a few times to use the bathroom throughout the day and still no hand towels.
Lunch was disgusting nobody ate it.
One of our colleges is Lactose intolerant and they didn't have a lactose dessert for her, which was preordered with our lunch.

I took my wife for her birthday to Sage Hotel, Wollongong this december.

Every year we have had issues but this time was the last straw. We paid for a room with a king bed with parking and breakfast included.

My issues are:

1. Every year the lifts have issues and the wait times are 2 to 6 minutes

2. they advertise that the Terrace Restaurant which is meant to be for a buffet breakfast which was closed.

3. Even though we paid for breakfast included, which we were meant to get a buffet breakfast we only got breakfast from a fixed menu where only the cheap part of the menu we were allowed to have unless we were prepared to pay for something else. To make matters worse we were only allowed to pick ONE item and ONE drink.

4. What they advertise how food looks like (You can see this via a channel on your TV in your room) and what you receive are vastly different.

5. They advertise daily room service and fresh linen / towels. What they dont tell you is that you need to request it otherwise your room does not get done. They leave a door tag in the inside of your room however the tag has 2 sides to it. one side says to make up your room and the other side says 'i just need to sleep, eat, water, repeat' which that is the side you see when you walk in and unless your intending on staying around the hotel through out your stay you wouldn't of used the tag so why would i bother even touching it. We had no idea the other side had 'makeup my room.

6. Although getting a free bottle of sparkling wine is nice for my wife's birthday, they ended up giving us a half empty, flat bottle of sparkling wine which if I was to guess I'd say it was from their bar downstairs and opened some days ago. It appears as if they were looking to offload it as opposed to giving us a free bottle of wine. To be honest we tipped it out.

7. We originally organised 2 days but a day later we decided to add an extra day. We had spoken to 3 staff members to organise this (the person we booked with, a staff member later that day to confirm and on the day we arrived .) The room was not the right room and we had to pay for the room in advance for that day. We then spoke to a 4th staff member about moving to the right room which he was quite rude and disinterested in doing so but at least it was done.

8. They advertise room service which is not true and there was none.

9. The TV was faulty.

10. The staff (except for maybe a couple) are rather rude and not interesting in helping.

Your better off paying a bit more and staying somewhere else. What a waste of money and i am never coming back. 3 times is enough for us. you keep thinking it is going to get better and they always promise they will do better but they never do.

Dear fixxhalo, Thank you for taking the time to let us about your experience at the Sage Hotel Wollongong. I am sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. At the Sage Wollongong, we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. We acknowledge that there has been ongoing issues in the past with our lifts, which is why we have spent this year planning and actioning a full replacement of both our guests lift, so that we can improve our services with the first one having been completed in end of December and is now fully operational. Due to Covid restrictions we can no longer offer our standard buffet breakfast option, and instead have completely recreated our breakfast restaurant and set up to now offer an ala cart cafe style menu, which has extensive options and our guest feedback around this has been extremely popular. Our housekeeping team are servicing guest rooms upon request only, so either the sign needs to be placed on the door or a request made to reception, this is in place to allow guests the option as to whether they want staff to enter their space or not, which in the current circumstance most guests have considered to be thoughtful. We appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Kind Regards, The Team at Sage Hotel Wollongong

Checking in the staff had resting (attitude) face and didn’t seem like they wanted to be there.

We then had to use the stairs to take all of our luggage up to the 9th floor as they had a lift under maintenance and it was almost impossible to get a ride in the only lift.

It was also impossible to get a park in the car park and people had started to make up spots and at $20 a night you should be able to get a park.

Moving to the room the mattress was comfortable however the pillows were worn out and felt like they had no stuffing in them. We ended up going out and getting our own pillows.

The shower head is also tiny and only covers small portions of the body at one time.

We also had to do some minor pest control due to moths and a few spiders falling out of places.

I’m not sure what is going on but other guests also expressed frustrations.

After dealing with a family emergency I was hoping this would be a better place to relax and get a good night rest.

We had visited Sage a few years ago and had an amazing experience. It became my favourite place to stay! When we again had to travel to Wollongong, I was very excited to stay there. How disappointing was the experience! From the moment we booked in with the unfriendly, terse reception staff to the moment we discovered the dirty towel, dirty basin and the lack of tea, coffee, soap etc for a 2 night stay, it became a less than happy holiday. The $1 breakfast option last time was wonderful; this time the staff obviously wished they were elsewhere. The food was below average and the toast took half an hour to arrive, with the cafe only having 6 other customers. We only had our second breakfast there because of convenience and this was also disappointing, with the same staff still unfriendly and slow. No doubt the hotel will wonder why we didn't approach them at the time - no doubt this was because we knew we would be met with even more unfriendliness! Sage is not the cheapest option in Wollongong, especially as parking costs $20 per night, but it's in a very central part of the city. However, we will never stay there again and have already passed our opinion onto others who were thinking of staying. I don't usually complain, but we were both very disappointed.

We booked as a last min stop over due to being tired while visiting the area we decided to book the sage thinking as it had a $350 price tag that we would be walking into something really nice boy were we wrong !!

Firstly upon checking into our room and came across a used water bottle which was found under the bed along with something else disgusting.

The bathroom spa was filthy and had dirt and grime/body fat build up this has not been cleaned properly for a long time. The lack of towels was also not that great most spa rooms in hotels have 4 bath towels provided here we got 2 very thin worn out ones that you could wring the water from after drying off.

the bedside tables and phones and remote controls were also dusty and dirty.

The room was plain and a little lifeless but i can handle that however as for the state of the lack of cleaning was shocking and certainly I wouldn't consider to be up to safe Covid standard clean.

The building currently has one lift due to the other being out of order this is really slow to get to your room.

one good thing of the experience was that We did however enjoy breakfast in the restaurant downstairs it was very nice.

overall a very expensive hotel and very disappointing experience we wouldn't stop here again cleaning needs to be 10 x better then the way how it was presented.
house keeping are probably not been allocated enough time to do their job.

Stayed here for 5 nights and have stayed in more comfortable and cleaner rooms in a local 1 star motel. Stayed in the Queen room where bed was 2 singles simply sat next to each other. Not zipped together, no mattress topper or joined in any manner. Contacted reception first night due to partner falling between two beds where it was discovered it wasn’t screwed together. Next morning spoke to reception about placing a mattress topper on the mattress where this was completed. Finally thinking we could start to enjoy a holiday and have a sound sleep we woke again to find the beds to be split again. We inspected the beds and discovered the mattresses were not zipped together and were broken unable to be join to make a queen. The mattress protector had period blood on it and the dooner cover was covered in yellow stains. Thinking new sheets and towels would be replaced by cleaners during room service was incorrect !! Although complaining numerous times sheets were not changed bed was not fixed and staff ignored and trivialised my complaint preferring to be more concerned about their balcony rules and regulations then our comfort and standards. Was essentially left to sleep on single beds covered in other people’s blood and bodily fluids !!! My limited knowledge in this area is that blood is a biohazard and should be thrown out not washed and left for other guests to sleep in and I would think that a hotel of this size would have simple hygiene standards to adhere to. !!! Would never stay there again. !!

Dear AlyshaW176, We investigated your claims and have found them to be false. What was discovered in your room was clear evidence of smoking, which violates our hotel non smoking policies and excess cleaning fees were charged to your account. Upon your departure we found no issues with your bedding configurations. At the Sage Hotel Wollongong we take all our guest feedback very seriously, and after investigation of your claims we found no issues with your room, other than those caused by yourselves.

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights and very much enjoyed our stay. From the moment we arrived everything worked as it should, reception was professional and friendly during these COVID times some measures were in place but didn't detract from the experience, the in-house restaurant was only open for breakfast (no buffet) and had to be prebooked, the food was fresh and tasty and reasonably priced also there are a few restaurants only a short walking distance from the hotel. Our room was a good size with a king bed and a balcony overlooking Win Stadium with sea views, an ideal place to stay if you were going to the footy but might be noisy but wasn't an issue during our stay, there was a good size TV but only free to air channels, No Foxtel or Netflix. The ensuite was also a good size, the only minor complaint we had was the power point in the bathroom was on the opposite wall away from the mirror and sink making it difficult to use a shaver, hair dryer and an electric tooth brush had to be changed in another room or placed on the floor, my wife said the hair dryer provided was a good quality one. The A/c worked well, overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily book accommodation there again.

I see in a lot of the reviews that there is only one working lift. When would the second lift be fixed??
Answer from Christine W

I honestly don’t know. But it really didn’t bother us at all. We raced our kids when we got the lift and they took the stairs. I can totally understand how much it could annoy people who may always need to take the lift. I felt sorry for the staff, the housekeepers and room service staff. It would be very frustrating for them.
