I booked this online the morning of the last day of the country music festival while I was sitting in my car out front ( in case there were no rooms left). Jody let me check in straight away and was very accommodating about checking out. The room was a single, clean and had air conditioning which at 40degrees was about all I cared about - no way I could camp in that heat. A fridge in my room was also very welcome. Just a 5 minute walk into town and 10 mins to the bus exchange, in a large house filled with rooms, big share kitchen and lounge, large front porch and clean bathrooms. Beds could be more comfortable but for that price I wasn't disappointed. Plenty of on street parking, wifi and a big tv (to watch Federer beat Nadal).
All 'round a good find for air con, location and friendly staff

I stayed at the Rex with my oztag team for a tournament in Tamworth. Staying at The Rex made the weekend so much better! Jodie was so lovely and welcoming and the homely atmosphere was great! Anything we needed in the kitchen and rooms was available and drinks were always cold with The Rex stubby holders provided! The beds were comfortable and sheets were clean and there was plenty of storage for our items in our rooms. The location of the Rex is very central with it only taking a couple of minutes drive, or 10 minute walk to the shops, restaurants and pubs in Tamworth. To top off Jodie's brilliant hospitality, she even posted me my football boots that i had left behind at The Rex. It's not often you come across people so kind. Thanks so much again to Jodie and everyone at The Rex!

A cheap little stop over in Tamworth for two nights.

Budget accommodation here, we stayed in a room for 4 people, a double bed and two singles. A bit cramped but it was ok. There was a fridge and wardrobe along with desks pace. If you were staying for longer you would probably need to empty the wardrobe as it was full of extra blankets. The single beds had electric blankets on which were a nice touch as it was their winter but you needed the extra blankets on the double, even though there are electric heaters in the room too. Although you'd think we'd be a bit tougher coming from the UK ha!

The ladies bathroom only had two showers, which were lovely and hot, however there was only 1 toilet from what we saw.

It seemed like there were a lot of long term residents in the place, most of whom were friendly enough to say hi to in passing but a friend of the managers was a bit stern looking. Who didn't look impressed after I pressed the bell to be let in after forgetting the code for the door, only after an hour or so after being there.

Nice and close to the lookouts so make sure you go. Would love to return for the country music festival!!

Thanks for your review! We do have other bathrooms and toilets available as needed but as the house was built to house men back in 1935 there are far more male toilets than female! When we have a majority of female guests we switch the bathroom names around as we are unable to make structural changes to the building. You are right that sometimes during the year we allow some weekly guests and we send every guest an email called "What to Expect At The Rex" with mentions this fact. It helps to keep our rates at a super budget level as well as contribute to the community we live in by providing a handful of longer term rooms as needed especially during cold winters. We do have a pretty good system of letting everyone know door codes, handing out business cards with the code as well as sometimes texting but I'm sorry you met someone who didn't seem happy to open the door when your forgot your code! We hope you do come back for the Country Music Festival and would love to change your mind and prove ourselves cheerful ;-)

Ok, clean sheets and towels. A large hostel/motel.Close to the shops, quiet, no other guests. The bathroom was a bit messy. Confusing layout, overflowing bins and cockroaches. I would not stay there again.

Okay Trip Advisor review readers...story time! I reported this review as inappropriate. It is not going well in attempts to have it removed. The first auto response was the wording seems to meet acceptable guidelines and could I provide proof of my claims. I’ve submitted that to the content integrity team and the email keeps bouncing. Sigh. I have more pressing business concerns during a Covid impacted time like actually keeping hold of my property during the shutdowns but nevertheless I am persisting - as the saying goes. It’s not enjoyable. So do you want the tea? That’s “the gossip” for those of you who aren’t up on the language the kids use these days. Well, you can have part of it. I know this person, it’s a heat of the moment type review, supposedly they regret it but can’t remove it themselves. The person was associated with the property and moi as the owner. Now - Were the bins overflowing and cockroaches partying and bathrooms messy? No clue as the visits were for personal reasons in between paying guests and included an epic birthday party where all my friends crashed free. What type of party is it if you don’t fill the bins and get the roaches drunk? Why bother owning a guesthouse if you can’t have fun in the gaps between bookings? I probably woke with my face pressed into birthday cake. There is so.much.more. But you’ve got enough now to decide if you want to place a lot of weight on this particular review. And yo, Trip Advisor if you could stop ghosting me that would be epic. My Tinder dates ghost me, I don’t need you to go all silent too... Yours in dramatic sighs of exasperation, -Jody the Guesthouse Wrangler (Who promises to never, ever, ever mix business with pleasure again)

Apart from the beds being propped up with wood and the outside rooms that are in worse condition than a Thailand prison, the main worry about this place is the aggressive not so friendly long term guests who seem to live there, when we arrived they made us feel like we should not even be there, if this place wants to stay open and work as a business they need to evict the low life long termers that ruin this failed attempt of a guest house.

This review was made by one member of a group of 14 travelling at short notice. They were told when booking that at least one night of their six night stay would be double booked with another group and we could accept them only if they would move rooms for that last night into a dorm. We set up rooms in outside common areas with brand new Ikea bunks, mattresses, all new linen and bedding and new reverse cycle air con. Quite frankly I think Thai prisoners would weep with joy at those conditions! All jokes aside, this group did not complain or raise any issues while staying and we had both a live in manager and myself available at all times. I was very concerned about a report they made after they left town that other weekly guests may have acted inappropriately. I contacted the other group who was at our guesthouse during the same days and they reported all was fine. I also contacted other smaller guest bookings who raised no issues either. We don't believe their review to be fair and true. Of course don't take my word for it. Check our reviews in other places, make a booking and come and see for yourself! Regards Jody Guesthouse Wrangler.

Arrived to a room that looked nothing like the photo and staff attitude that definitely did not reflect the reviews. I had read. I spent a long time trying to find the staff which, was just one very hassled woman and she could hardly be called helpful. The room was functional and clean but had nothing to recommend it aside from that. The shared ladies bathroom was filthy with sanifary napkins overflowing from the toilet bin. The outside areas were dirty with overflowing ash-trays. There was only street parking and a complicated keyed system and a heavy self closing entrance door made moving bags into the premises dificult. The hostess was rude and hassled and when I told her about the bathroom she replied the cleaners were coming in the morning. She then told me that she was going to refund my booking money `because I had caused her enough problems and it was obvious I was not going to be happy in her hotel`. I cannot imagine anyone being happy in this place unless they had incredibly low standards. As a traveller I have stayed in many third world 1 and 2 star hotels, hostels and back-packer lodges and they were palaces compared to this. This in my opinion after my 3 hour stay was more like a doss house

Most of this review is true! I was rude to Kristine. She was to be charged $50 a night for a hostel type room. We keep prices low by operating self check in, prepaid rooms, limited staff, street parking and no real reception and send emails to everyone warning we are best suited to independent travellers. We then outline exactly what we offer at our one star budget guesthouse and how to use the facilities. None of this seemed acceptable to Kristine. I trailed her around the house answering questions, repeating myself, being interrupted, moving furniture at her request and having to chase payment. I really did not enjoy any of it. Photos did not reflect the room because I had upgraded her to a double bed. And my attitude certainly didn't match my usual demeanour by the end of our interactions. The last straw was when she told me she couldn't step foot in the bathroom. Of course I went to fix the problem - which was only a waste bin where the lid had been knocked off. Not ideal but hardly a crisis. I did explain the cleaners were coming for a deeper clean. I could see that Kristine would be miserable for the next three days and as a result so would I. I insisted on refunding her against her protests so she could book a hotel that might meet her expectations. Her review title of "Wish I had never stayed here" proves wishes do come true! Luckily for her, but mostly for me, she never did get to stay.

I stayed in the Rex for one night, and was sad to have to leave the next morning! The service is absolutely lovely, the rooms clean and comfortable, the location is convenient and the kitchen/living room very useful. A great value for money.

I had the perfect couple of nights at Rex's. Jody is lovely and is sprucing the place up really nicely.
Rooms have everything I needed for a budget stay (Bed, heating, fridge, kettle and TV).
The shower was great and my only request would be some better mattresses. Nothing flash needed, just something a bit firmer.
Excellent location as well, very close to town.
All in all a great stay at a great place.

We were a small group of friends from Glen Innes, coming to Tamworth for the Pride Day in the park. We wanted something affordable and close to town.
Being older women, we were unsure about staying in a guesthouse, with the potential for lots of late night party noise. Memories of inconsiderate behaviour from out own youth. We were happy to find that people who stayed there were considerate of others.
The atmosphere was friendly and efficient. The beds comfortable and environment clean.
We had a fun time and would recommend this venue.
