Only a short walk from the centre of town.
Ample under cover parking and a restaurant that served beautiful food including one of the biggest Chicken Parma's I've ever seen.
Highly recommended if passing through the Tamworth area.
Room at front did suffer from smelly drains! But I sorted it by covering/plugging drain holes and spraying air freshener.
Stayed again a second night in a different room and odour was still there but not as bad!
Room service needs to bleach drains and air rooms. Rooms also need air freshener supplied if management can’t eliminate odour entirely.
I am not normally critical of hotels but if I found it unpleasant I’m sure others will too!

The friendly front office woman, who turned out to be the owner, was super helpful. They were not doing evening meals when I stayed, but they had gone to the trouble of having photocopied menus of food vendors, who were doing take away meals, available and also offered to bring plates and cutlery to my room to make my evening meal a little more civilised,
Breakfast, delivered to my room, was still available. Lovely expresso and a Yoghurt pot with berries and granola was a great way to start the day,
My room was very comfortable, heating worked well, as the night was a little chilly. WIFI worked well, no buffering.
I'd happily stay again when my work brings me back to Tamworth, whenever that may be :(
Rooms are a decent size and clean. Bathroom was large with good water pressure in shower. Storage is an issue – there was one small hanging space but no drawers to use to unpack other than small bedside table. As I was there for a 4 night stay I would have preferred not to live out of suitcase. Plenty of easily accessible power points. The onsite restaurant does not open fri – sun so on weekends you have to go offsite to find food.
I was a solo female traveller and returning late at night but always felt safe – well lit at night but room curtains block out light so it doesn’t bother sleep. Even though it is on a main road the rooms are quiet. there is limited parking undercover but even returning late at night I was able to find parking on site
Don't let the facade fool you - this is definitely a new, modern hotel with rooms that are modern and clean
The owners made our stay perfect. They were friendly and went above and beyond to help make our stay memorable. They had some great recommendations on things to do with our children which included the marsupial park and the nearby town park which both exceeded expectations.
We had room service for breakfast on one occasion and it was delicious and room service dinner on one occasion and it too was delicious. They also sent a complimentary dessert, yum.
I honestly don’t remember the last time we have received the personalized service we have had at Ashby House.
Thanks so much, we will stay again.
1. The staff are super friendly and very helpful.
2. The room was clean.
3. Good WiFi
What's not good:
1. It's on a busy road, so expect to be woken up early with trucks (5am).
2. Lighting in the room was all daylight globes, so there was zero ambiance. Changing the globes to a warmer colour would make a world of difference. I spent 10yrs building and refurbing hotels and daylight globes are a huge NO!
3. No power outlets at the desk or next to the bed.
4. No desk light.
5. No heat lamps in the bathroom. Not a huge deal, but the windows have spacers for fresh air, so you can't close them all the way. Not fun when its 3 degrees outside and you go for a pee at 5:30am (because the trucks woke you up).
6. Extra blankets would have been good. The room was really cold, so I ended up running the reverse cycle heating all night, but that's noisy and I'm sure costly to the hotel (sorry hotel) and probably not great for the environment (sorry eco-warriors).
7. A minor comment, but the light switching needs work. The switch in the room controlled the lobby and the lobby switch controlled the room light.
My room also looked a little different to the photos shown on TA (headboard, side tables, side lights). Perhaps I got an older room? Overall I never found the room to be inviting. I checked in, went out for a bite to eat and dreaded returning. Changing the lighting would certainly help this.
Kay organised a special two course, two option meal for us, (in two COVID safe sittings) which was absolutely delicious, especially the Salmon dish.
The rooms were spacious, comfy and quiet, and the staff very helpful and friendly.
COVID Safe practices were evident in all areas of Ashby House. Highly recommended.
This time I thought I would spend a little more and stay somewhere nicer for the 4 nights I’m visiting, and for the little bit more than some other places I don’t think it was any better.
Parking was almost impossible some nights as they were quite busy.
Small dated rooms. However very clean and tidy.
The internet kept cutting out so when watching Stan or Netflix you had to turn it off and on again every almost every 15-30min.
One night there was an extremely drunk person in the hotel who kept us up for quite a while. We had friends staying there as well, and management phoned them to apologize but we didn’t hear anything at all.
Overall it’s a nice motel, but with so many options in tamworth, I don’t think I would come back.
