Goonoo Goonoo Station is acclaimed for its comfortable and stylish rooms that blend modern and vintage decor, although some guests have pointed out issues with noisy fridges and air conditioning. The serene atmosphere with stunning grounds is often praised, as is the value provided by the hotel, including affordable wine and quality accommodations. Amenities like the on-site Glasshouse restaurant receive special mentions, and the service is highlighted for its professionalism and friendliness.
While the location offers a picturesque setting, guests advise caution when arriving at night due to signage issues. Overall, the hotel's cleanliness receives high marks from visitors.

Detailed Reviews
The reuse of original architecture and the bucolic setting is wonderful in this truly original accommodation.
We stayed in the shearers quarters which are lovely but small. There is no room for a seat or preferably 2 There is A stool. There are chairs outside on the verandah but inside you have to sit on your bed to eat and drink. Of course you can go to the glasshouse for every meal if you have the inclination and the money but we preferred to have our breakfast in our room with the bowls/ cutlery / plates provided. They obviously expect you to eat on the bed. Likewise if you wanted a glass of wine before dinner it was on the bed.
Room 1 of the shearers quarters has chairs but the rest no
We were informed at booking that no housekeeping would be done during our 2 day stay due to Covid safety. This was fine except they only provided 2 English breakfast teabags for 2 days. The station is 20 km from the shops. There is no after hours service or room service so when you get back there after a day out you’re thinking they will have topped up the fridge and teabag situation. I love my cuppa before bed / in bed/ on the bed so was incredibly frustrating not to have it available.
Lastly. We went over to the Glasshouse at 10.15 this morning after checkout and before leaving to grab a coffee before we hit the road Staff there who were still preparing coffees for others refused us service. Said they had to cut it off at some time. I suggest 10.30. Would have made us feel a lot happier than having to drive 20 km for our morning coffee

Immaculately maintained property approximately 25klms south of Tamworth on the New England Highway. There are a variety of different accommodation options from the small Shearer's Quarters to multiple bedroom self catering houses. The majority of the accommodation options formerly housed people who lived and worked on the property but these have all subsequently been beautifully restored and renovated.
We stayed for one night in October in one of the Shearer's Quarters. Our unit was quite small but very cosy. There was a king sized bed (comfortable) with a bedside table and light either side of the bed. At the other end of the bed was a built in vanity/desk area that also housed the TV and had a small vanity stool. Either side of this area were built in cupboards one of which housed a fridge, kettle, Nespresso machine and some crockery and glasses. On the other side there was hanging and shelf space.
The bathroom was a good size with a walk in shower (pressure was good) and a good sized vanity. We noticed that some of the Shearer's Quarters were slightly larger and we thought that at least one, in the more modern building, had a bath.
Air conditioning and WIFI worked well and there was plenty of parking.
Apart from the vanity stool the only seating provided was two chairs that were located on the shared verandah.
The Shearer's Quarters buildings were at one end of the "village" and about a 5/7 minute walk to Reception, the church and the swimming pool. They were also about a 7/10 minute walk, mainly up hill, to the excellent Glasshouse restaurant where we had dinner and breakfast.
Check-in and check-out was very efficient and the staff were friendly. We were sent a code by SMS the day before our arrival which enabled us to open the locked gate into the property.
There is no doubt that the accommodation on offer here is high quality and, given our one night stay, the Shearer's Quarters was more than sufficient. However, it was very small and if we were to stay longer in future we would upgrade to one of the larger self catering options as, apart from the Glasshouse Restaurant, there are no real shops or other options to purchase food or drink (mini bar aside) on the property.

Recommended by friends this was a special place. The refurbishment of the old cattle station buildings was tasteful and clever and the setting magnificent. We stayed in the very comfortable and affordable double rooms fashioned out of the "shearers' quarters" and ate in the up-market and impressive Glasshouse Restaurant with distant views. There is larger accommodation for larger families / groups which allow for self catering (the restaurant more a special occasion place). Very relaxing. Swimming pool and tennis court on site.

Here for a romantic 3 nights . Checked in to a small, clean, very well appointed room. The cabin is set in beautiful landscaped gardens, surrounded by an amazing country vista.
There is a couple of issues I have in regard to their policies. First being, we were informed at check in that there would be no room servicing during our 3 days due to COVID-19. I’m not sure if this is government policy, though dosnt quite make sense as all other rooms were serviced between guests checking out and checking in same day ? However. We were informed at time of check in that if needed, we could ask for clean towels, toilet paper, etc and they would be delivered ( and they were). We were of course happy to make our own beds and after requesting a broom, happy to sweep our own floor... though rather strange taking in regards this is supposed to be “high end”!. Anyway, overall a pleasant stay but don’t think you’re going to escape the drudgery of home chores.

We came with our service dog and under Australian Federal law and antidiscrimination laws our dog is lawfully allowed to stay wherever his master chooses to stay. However we were hassled by Goonoo Goonoo staff after check in during a walk on the grounds. The staff member requested that our service dog stay outside (the Jackeroo's), talked down to us about allergens for future guests (as though they don't perform deep cleans), and lectured us about picking up after him (as if we weren't going to take responsibility). The fact is that our assistance dog, by law, is lawfully allowed to stay here irrespective of notice; if they had any professionalism it would not have been an issue to them. The tone we received was disrespectful, bordering on discriminatory, and condescending. We were lectured as though we were trying to bring a pet (which he is not), insinuated that he was a threat to the the animals on this property (Assistance Dogs Australia trained this dog for 2 years at a cost of $40000; rendering him neither a domestic pet; nor has he ever been a threat to wildlife or livestock). What is more, under the law, he has full access on these grounds except in the commercial kitchen of Glasshouse, which we never sought to enter with him in tow. Our service dog has stayed with his master in five star hotels in Sydney and the Gold Coast where they received him in a educated, dignified way. We have never had this much unwanted, negative attention. It is obvious to us from this encounter that these premises are worlds away from the leading five star hospitality property that Goonoo Goonoo Station attempts to emulate. Sorry, but this company needs to educate its staff in the ways of service and graciousness if it want to be a part of the luxury hospitality industry. Only the most humble and gracious staff will be able to satisfy the customer base that it wants to attract. The staff member in question attempted to confront my husband (the person with a disability) and later brought up the same complaints with me. Had she any education in the tenets of hospitality or, indeed, human decency, she would have begun with an apology, rather than making unlawful demands twice over. It is hard enough for members of the disability sector to navigate through normal life without having to be harassed about issues that they are protected from under the law. Don't come, if you have any additional needs or if you wish to be respected in a decent progressive society.

It's a lovely village with beautiful grounds and the restaurant looks amazing. The cottages look charming and the staff are very helpful and obliging. There's a lot to like, but there are some fundamental things amiss which impinged on our comfort and enjoyment.
We stayed in The Granny Flat. The views are lovely and it is private. The major problem for us was that there are two industrial size ducted air conditioning units which have been placed 2 feet behind the bedroom window and are very noisy all day and night. They are for The Homestead, and have thoughtfully been placed behind a stone wall ensuring that it is quiet for those occupants but terrible for The Granny Flat, with only a slim timber barrier between our bedroom and the units.
The air conditioning unit for The Granny Flat is also noisy, but at least it's behind the lounge room wall, even if the timber skirtings and ceiling vibrate noisily.
We were very cold and it was freezing in the kitchen and over heated in the bedrooms. The windows are not properly sealed and cold air blows in. The staff kindly supplied a plug in heater and we were able to make it comfortable.
We stayed for 6 nights so availed ourselves of the full kitchen. The small fridge was filled with bottles (as a mini bar) and the shelf has been removed, meaning that there was nowhere to refrigerate our food. We had to ask for a bread knife and sharp knives, there were no dinner plates, and we've never stayed in self contained accommodation that doesn't at least provide salt and pepper.
It's nicely furnished (although the fabric on the day bed is stained), but I echo a previous review that there's nothing to personalise the space, not even a throw rug. As also mentioned in a previous review a couple of coat hangers on the side of a cupboard are insufficient. Unfortunately the fire (in the photograph) that I was looking forward to curling up in front of was removed years ago. The signal for the WiFi is too faint to be able to connect to it.
I'd love to be able to give it a better review because in so many ways it's lovely. However, it seems that insufficient thought has been given to the small but important things that make a stay comfortable, quiet and "luxurious to the discerning guest" which is what they promote.

How exciting, our first trip away exploring the Liverpool Plains region after many months in lockdown. We could not have chosen a more perfect place for a taste of freedom. GG Station is peacefully picturesque with big skies and open pastural plains. It is ideally situated with beautiful country drives to Willow Tree, the gentle Peel River and the precious village of Nundle. As a couple, after walks around the station admiring the tasteful mix of historically restored buildings and landscaped grounds the Shearer’s Quarters become ours to comfortably snuggle down and soak up the glorious sunny views of the range. The Haggarty family know how to put on a spread. The Glass House Restaurant deserves it many varied awards for both cuisine, architecture and service. With a warm and welcoming atmosphere GH has hit the ground running after a Covid Hiatus with a perfect combination of delicious meals, personal service and hygiene attention that is outstanding. We will return as there is so much more on the menu to explore with friends as our world safely opens.

The resort has been built in an existing cattle/sheep station set of communal buildings. Simple motel style rooms (Shearers Quarters), one/two bedroom apartments and a five bedroom owner house are all available. The country setting is magical, just 15 minutes from Tamworth.
The room was very well equipped and comfortable and the staff could not do enough to help.
The onsite restaurant was sensational and well priced for the standard of cuisine.

We stayed in the Cook’s House which was perfect for a family of four with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a comfortable living area.
A short stroll up to the Glasshouse for several dinners and breakfasts was a pleasure - for dinner, book early enough to see the sunset.
It is very quiet, the village layout meant we barely saw anyone else even though I’m confident they were heavily booked. Pool was nice, tennis was fun, but this is NOT a place for much action (and with COVID, even a casual drink at the restaurant bar wasn’t possible). We went for several morning runs which were nice in the cool and quiet.
Tamworth is an easy 20 minute drive, and we ventured in for several meals and some low-key activities (regional gallery is good). We also ventured out to Nundle, Willow Tree, Quirindi and north of Tamworth to Barabba. For all this, Goonoo Goonoo was an excellent base.

A gathering for a wedding and the most outstanding accommodation and wedding venue anyone could ask for. Every room in every house, shearer’s quarters and main homestead was styled to perfection. The grounds are meticulously cared for and the whole ‘village’ was picturesque. Everything screamed quality and the highest of high standards. The wedding was also held there and venue was something else. Stunning!! We were given the most beautiful meals and wanted for nothing. The staff were amazing: friendly, competent, slick. We liaised with Andrea who ran that event like clockwork. A massive day for her. Thank you. Anybody considering an event or a gathering of any kind, you can go past it. 10/10.

It’s a heated outdoor swimming pool. Hopefully the weather will be good for you.
Hi Phil,
The Homestead swimming pool, for Homestead Guests only is not heated. The Village pool is heated at certain times during the year. At the moment the temperature at Goonoo Goonoo Station is about 30 degrees and getting warmer.
Please do not hesitate to contact our reception should we be able to assist you with any other enquiries.
Kind regards,
Sarah Haggarty
