From the outside a dated motel in need of an update - open the door (room eight for us) to a fully renovated spacious room with a large well presented bathroom. Not an update but a brand new fitout. Quiet comfortable, central to everything. Great stay..

The owner kindly upgraded us to a family room which had a double & 2 singles, a kitchen with hotplates, microwave, large fridge, kettle and toaster, renovated bathroom. Everything super-clean perfect for a few days stay, friendly owners, good value for money. Will recommend to friends and stay here again.

Great accommodation. The customer service provided by the owners was superb. We asked for a knife and oil to cook our dinner and they gave it to us unhesitatingly. The Room was okay for the price. The owner also gave us mil at the beginning to have breakfast and overall provided great hospitality. The beds, sofa, kitchen and bathroom was great. The WiFi from our room 10 was fairly weak. The motel was really close to the shopping centres and stores. To conclude, if your visiting Port Macquarie and on a budget then the John Oxley Motel is the place to stay

We chose this accomodation because it was the first place we saw after 3 busy days of driving from Tassie to North Qld. On the positive side it was close to amenities . There was a car wash and funeral home across the road and we had the room next to the highway. It’s deco was retro, not quite of the moment. Tiles were missing in the fabulous mosaic octagonal flooring. Skirting was rotten and needed replacement ? But, enough of that. The owner was lovely, milk fresh not uht and we got some sleep

Stayed here last night - the room was well presented and clean (wifi a plus), bed was comfy very little noise from the road. It was easy to walk to the shops and to the Westport club down on the port. I’d stay there again.

This was the most disgusting place I've ever stayed. Dead cockroaches on the beds, other people's hair in the bed everywhere not to mention the filthy brown marks on the sheets. Then of course there was the cockroaches in the kitchen sink and shower. The aircon was coated in thick dust and grime. And just when you think it can't get any worse you get a smell of the lovely foul odour of blocked drains wafting through the entire room from bathroom. The carpet was disgusting. We couldn't bring ourselves to shower due to not knowing what may have been on the towels after seeing the bedding. We called the manager and left a message we required clean linen however our call was unanswered. The health department need to do a visit!

I couldn't believe how friendly and helpful the staff was, the 2 owners would bend over backwards for you and nothing you ask is too much for them.
The rooms were super clean and I couldn't complain about anything.
Super surprising considering the other reviews I have read on this page, I was expecting something absolutely terrible and was pleasantly surprised.
I was very happy when I heard they do a lot of emergency accomodation there. It's good to see a small local motel opening their hearts to their local community.
Would revisit if I was to come back to port, would be happy to support a small local business that are so kind and over all a clean, friendly environment.

the owner is very nice. The room appeared clean. However, Chased cockroach across the room, the twin beds didn't match, and there was a very deep hole where you could get out of the mattress. The shower pressure - no pressure and little bugs flew up to join me.
I know it was Boxing day, but $140 was a little steep for what I got.
