Clean room but needs updating . No comfortable chairs inside to sit on and enjoy a drink . Cobwebs in bathroom . Expired milk in fridge . Could be so much better in such a great location . Close to vineyards and restaurants . Very peaceful location .

We stayed two night, was greeted with, "there's no restaurant and here are your keys, last room on the left" , well ok so where to eat? I guess we'll just look for ourselves!.., we were looking forward to a swim since it was very hot only to find the pool full of algae, not something that would happen overnight and would have thought since they knew the room was booked i would have thought they would have addressed this issue....apparently the restaurant has been closed for a while so the advertising should have been changed straight away as we assumed we would have eaten there for both dinner and breakfast being convenient so we didnt have to drive.. the rooms are very spacious but need a lot of work to restore this place...no reception just a phone number with no instruction on what to do with key and i had to look on website to see when check out was and we were given nothing on arrival....its certainly not worth the money they charge for the weekend and i would have been extremely dissapointed had i have paid for this ( it was a weekend won by my son)....needs a good clean, spider webs around door that have obviously been there for a long time and very dirty under the bathroom sink with someones makeup brush which looked like it had been there for a long time and shower door broken......many other places to stay in the hunter with better service and nicer accommodation...its a shame cause the place has potential but definitely wont stay again or recommend to anyone.

Was there in February 18, booked on booking.com January 10th 2018. Read all sorts of awesome reviews about how good the food is, don't need to eat anywhere else, award winning restaurant etc.. So thought 'wow this sounds great'.. had never heard of this place before, booked on the same day!!
Got to the place and the first thing the barefoot 'reception' manager said was "now firstly I have to say there's no restaurant" !? .. bit disappointed!! Asked what happened and why is it advertised?? Was told it's not on the website, and I replied that it was still on booking.com !
Phone numbers were disconnected and had to call booking.com 2 days before arriving as I tried to call Casuarina Estate and got concerned when the phones weren't connected! Was given a mobile number to call and was answered quite unprofessionally. Told that 'the owners' are changing phone companies.. I've read other comments about people saying the phones are disconnected, how long does it take to change phone companies??? And it can be done without having your number disconnected!! What's the truth?
Lastly when we got back home I emailed booking.com as I felt the amount we paid was too much considering the services advertised were not offered.. (no restaurant, which had been a draw card used in their promoting/great guest reviews about the food on premises!)..
Was then told that Casuarina Estate cannot do anything as the restaurant closed in August 2017 and that was plenty of time to become aware of the changes. How does one become aware of the changes when it's ADVERTISED AS BEING THERE!? And was also told that the restaurant is not advertised any longer on the website or booking.com.. and yet it WAS advertised on January 10 when I booked it, or else how would I even expect there was one?? And why would the first thing the 'reception' person tells you is "firstly I need to tell you there's no restaurant" !
Not fussed about compensation, just detest false advertising and then calling your guests liars!

Stayed here a couple of weeks back for my birthday... place looked ok but we had some major issues which I wrote about directly to the company who manages the property but I had no feedback from them whatsoever. We stayed at the Italian Bordello Suite and the water in the tub was yellow, don’t dare shower if you’re taller than 1.60mt because the shower was literally kid’s size and I’d leave my valuables in the car as the french doors’ lock is pretty untrustworthy. Not worth the money. Such a disappointment

Went away for a weekend with the girls to the Hunter. Paid $1200 to find a house that appeared to be lovely on the surface, but the horrors just kept on coming. The house obviously hadn't been vacuumed or dusted for some time. The floor was littered with scraps of cotton and dirt and cobwebs draped down the walls in the bedrooms. They had been there so long they had dust on them (even the ones above the stove in the kitchen). There was one roll of toilet paper for 6 women for the weekend, no tea towels or tea spoons. No instructions on how to use the stove, and, because it was computerised it was useless. The microwave stopped after 15 minutes of use rendering it unusable. Hence, we couldn't cook so the food we brought had to be thrown out as it was defrosted. The dishwasher had mould in it and the freezer had such a funny smell we wouldn't even freeze water. We wanted to sit on the front veranda on Saturday night but the table and chairs were very dirty and once it rained the front flooded.Very disappointing. BUT, if you have an issue you can always call a mobile number to complain/ask for help - but then again they never called us back. Never again

If you scroll down the reviews on the Casuarina here on T.A. You’ll see a rave, 5 Star review from me right around this time last year. Well I don’t know what happened but somebody’s let that place go. Big time. There used to be a lovely couple running the place on-site. Met us in the car park, helped us with cabs, our bags, directions, restaurant recommendations. This year we paid $330/night for a 3 night stay and arrived to a ghost town. Pin code to access the Casablanca suite (which was lovely, no complaints about the room). The next day we returned to our hotel to find our room hadn’t been cleaned. Our towels smelled like wet swimming pool, the bed hadn’t been re-made and we were out of toiletries. We also had ONE roll of toilet paper for three nights. We called the number provided on the website. Turns out Hunter Valley Stays manages it now. We were told they’re “self contained apartments” and as such we don’t get fresh towels, linens and toiletries each day. Funny, because in order to be a self contained apartment the place must have a kitchen. These are hotel rooms. Not apartments. And how is a couple expected to shell out $330/night and use pool towels after a hot shower and then have to go buy toiletries? They sent someone to dump 2 toilet paper told on our bathroom vanity. Whoever that was, despite having certainly seen the empty shampoo & conditioner bottles on the bench, decided to ignore them, along with the wet towels on our shower floor, and left the room unfit to say the least. It was an absolute disgrace. We ended up re-using the dirty pool towels off the shower floor after drying them on the furniture outside. For $330 a night this is unacceptable to say the least. And don’t sell rooms as hotel rooms then not service them daily, pretending instead to say they’re self contained apartments. The place was deserted. We could’ve held a 3-day pool party there and charged $120 a head at the gate an the owners and management would be none the wiser. Appalling. It’s devastating really, because the property is beautiful & has so much potential. The word around town at the Cellar doors is that this mismanagement is due to a bitter divorce. Hate eachother, not your guests. Especially returning guests with fond memories of the hotel it used to be. The rooms are still stunning and fun. Management needs a kick up the backside & I know my partner who booked the room wouldn’t mind a partial refund for the complete lack of service we received. We won’t hold our breath. 👍🏼

Booked a room for 6 people for two nights over the weekend to enjoy the local winery's and attend a concert at Hope Estate. After paying $1600 when booking we were emailed, not even phoned, to tell us they had double booked and the room wasn't available anymore. I only found out about this the day before we were meant to arrive. We were told we would get a refund in 5 business days which meant we were left without our $1600 outlay to rebook somewhere else last minute. Shocking service! If the room isn't available make that clear so these mistakes don't happen

Had booked via air bnb for a weekend away with the family. We were extremely excited and headed on our way. After traveling 4 hours and with Casuarina less than an hour away I received an email saying that they had double booked and the property would not be available for us. I contacted them but no reply! This happened time and time again. We finally contacted them after frantically finding more accomodation for the family and were told “too bad, so sad”. We were not offered any compensation for our loss and would not get back the $1500 we had paid as a deposit for 3-5 working days. Nowhere to stay and out of pocket! Don’t trust these frauds

Response from Maureen B, Owner at Casuarina Estate
Responded 23 May 2018
As owner of the property in response - this review is fraudulent and we are in the process of having it removed with the assistance of Trip Advisor. There was never a booking and the circumstances described are not in line with our business principles. It is a shame that such scandalous reviews get air time as we operate a unique boutique hotel with the highest service and have been established for over 30 years , with a great reputation in the Hunter Valley .

My wife and i arrived to spend one night in the Palais Royale themed suite for $260( room only, the restaurant is under renovation ), to enjoy an evening at Bimbadgen for a concert. It was one of the hottest days in the Hunter region and it was fantastic to find the air conditioning on and the room nice and cool. That was about the best thing we could say. The following list of issues we raised with reception on our departure and have also emailed them directly, but have not received any response which i find dissapointing. 1. The bedspread had an unidentifiable red stain on it. 2. The bed was as hard as nails and the pillows had no substance to them. 3. The ice cube tray was empty and had seen better days. 4. The fridge needed defrosting and after we had filled and placed the ice tray in the freezer compartment, was still not frozen the next morning. 5. The door to the outside shared patio space, was difficult to open and close and made a racket that would wake every neighbour. 6. The coffee and milk facilities are more akin to a 2 star motel and did not reflect the price (other accomodation provide either plunger or nespresso machines. This was granulated instant that tasted like international roast. 7. Half used tea light candles were spread about the bathroom and kitchenette with nothing to light them. 8. The toilet seat while clean was old and well worn 9.The shower rose had been replaced in chrome while all other fittings were gold / brass and looked right out of place and character with the rest of the themeing. 10 No tissue box. While many of these are insignificant and easy to rectify it was not value for money. The lack of response to our complaints only upset us more.
