We stayed in the sunset Ridge cottage for our anniversary and it was perfect . On arrival there was a bottle of Rosé on the table and the fireplace was prepared and ready to light. The cottage was amazing and had everything we needed, comfortable king size bed, air con , heater and of course the fireplace which heated the place beautifully. The large shower and adjacent spa bath had great views of the surrounding trees and property, it was pretty special watching kangaroos and wallabies grazing as we sat in the spa with a glass of local red. The cottage was very isolated from the other accommodations on the property,we felt like we were the only two there and it's located very close to a lot of wineries and restaurants. Sunset cottage lives up to its name and we will definitely be back."

When I saw the Billabong Moon property I knew I had to stay there. It was a beautiful oasis in the heat of the Hunter Valley summer. We went as two couples and really enjoyed swimming in pool, lounging on the deck of the Billabong Cottage and loved that there was so much wildlife on the property including southern grey kangaroos.

Beautiful, tranquil stay. Loved the fountain, very relaxing. Clean property. Very comfortable bed.
Great place to sit back with a glass of wine & just soak up the sun on the deck. Loved it. Definitely recommend if you are after a peaceful, no noise stay. The only noise is the beautiful wildlife."

Our expectation for what we paid to stay, didn’t match up. Locality was great, and the cottage sitting on the edge of a dam, was beautiful. Inside there were too many things that were disappointing. Mouldy grout in the shower, mattress dipped to the centre, hot water to the kitchen sink only came when the bathroom hot tap was running, heat lamp in bathroom was blown. As were half of the exterior light globes. Just not what you would expect for the tariff. Even emailing the group host, Hunter Valley Stays, five days later I’m still waiting for their response. Not recommended.

We were promised breakfast 'every day', but only received one serving for four nights stayed there,
We were promised wine on arrival, but none was provided.
After we left, they contacted us, with an unsigned, unauthorised $50 debit receipt from my husband's credit card attached to a rude letter. They charged us an extra $50 to clean the cottage after we left, even though we were never informed of an extra fee, or agreed to the extra debit from our credit card. When I contacted them and threatened legal action against them, they responded by immediately refunding the money, then sending a very rude email about how lawyers and movie stars had stayed with them before and were always happy... as if I cared about their other customer's alleged careers, and as if someone's career made them better than anyone else.
We will go back to the Hunter again, but never to Billabong Moon.

We visited the Hunter Valley to do some Wine Tasting with family who were here on holiday and chose to stay here mainly because other places we knew had no vacancy. The main reason it wouldn't be a first choice is that it's a bit out the way, however that is also part of it's charm.
What was very disappointing was the fact the cottages and rooms themselves were lacking in cleanliness to a degree. A large portion of the hunter's "Bush Life" resided inside the accommodation rather than being kept to it's rightful, place outdoors. When accommodation claims to be of 5 star standard measures should be taken to stop large spiders, crickets and beetles from entering the premises.
The facilities in the cottages were very basic and some common utensils were also lacking. Overall it was a pleasant enough place to stay but the cost far exceeds what is delivered by way of quality of dwellings and service - I have paid much less and received much more from other places in the Hunter Valley.

I had some friends visiting from the USA and wanted to show them the best of what Australia had to offer. I hadn't been to the Hunter Valley before and so I did a lot of research on accommodation before choosing Casuarina Cottage at the Billabong Moon, Pokolbin - a 2 bedroom cottage set amongst Casuarina trees.
The Billabong Moon did not disappoint at all. In fact, I don't think the photographs on their website give justice to how beautiful and well appointed the Casuarina Cottage is. Every little detail was attended to from a fully stocked kitchen with all the utensils and appliances you need (a lot of 'self contained' cottages lack basic tools) to the tastefully decorated living areas. The beds were comfy and the linen crisp and each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom. The bottle of wine and cheese/fruit board on arrival were perfect, and the fridge had a fully stocked breakfast basket with bacon, eggs, fresh bread, preserves, milk and juice. There is a BBQ outside near the deck, perfect for summer evenings. To top it off, the outdoor spa nestled amongst the trees was perfect. Some other reviewers had said the traffic noise from Hermitage Rd was loud, but I didn't find this to be the case at all.
We really enjoyed our time in Hunter Valley, but for once the accommodation was the main highlight. I will definitely be staying at the Billabong Moon on my future trips to Hunter Valley.

Stayed in the 'Sunset Ridge' with my boyfriend in August, found it was a very nice cottage and well apart from the other people staying there.
It is right on the road where you can test wine, cheese ect & close by the Gardens.
Some of the windows were locked & we were unable to open.
Not sure if they can really do bug spraying because its in the bush but we did find a nice suprise of a huntsman hiding in the spa.
but thats not the biggest suprise we had yet.....
after finding afew spiders we emptied a bottle of the provided fly spray around the cottage but before we sat on the lounge to watch a movie, my boyfriend lifted the cushions on the lounge to spray and he happen to find a disgusting sex toy which somebody had left behind!!!
we called the owner & he came & moved it and gave us a bottle of wine.
I think the place is dirty and not cleaned well, as there was heaps of crumbs where the sex toy was found and hair everywhere..
walking around with thongs on your feet isnt nice when you want to relax.
mind you we didnt feel comfortable sitting down or touching anything after our discovery.

We booked here based on the previous Tripadvsor entries and were looking forward to a special weekend.
What can I say - I must have encountered the hosts on an off-weekend, because I found I them rude and even agressive. We arrived two hours later than what we had orginally said, due to Sydney traffic and were told how 'disappointed' they were that we hadn't rang ahead to let them know.
Having travelled the world and stayed in all standards of accommodation and met all types of people, I have never encountered anything like this. It's abit like staying at the 'in-laws' - all very pleasant whilst you are on your best behaviour, but just don't step out of line or you'll be treated like a very naughty child - certainly not like a paying customer.
For this much money, I would have thought abit of civility would have come with the price!!

Response from Matilda09, owner at Billabong Moon
Responded 6 Nov 2009
First arrivals of the group inadvertently revealed to us that the total number of the party exceeded the number booked in and exceeded the capacity of the cottage. At the same time we were being faxed an indemnity form from a film company apparently filming a reality TV show at our accommodation the following day. Film Company followed up with a call confirming a crew would be attending. This was the first we had heard about that. We expressed our misgivings to the first arrivals and the fact we felt we were being taken advantage of, and being pushed into a corner where we had to accept things at short notice. The person responsible for the booking never came and spoke to us in person but decided to seek accommodation elsewhere, informing us by phone. The reviewer never stayed with us.

My husband and I stayed one night(wishing it was more)in the "Sunset Ridge" cottage. We had tried to book at the Tower Estate but it was fully booked. Due to the reviews on this site we chose our second option of Billabong Moon. We were not disappointed. Andy and Jenny have a great set up here. Sunset Ridge is very private and you are unaware that anyone else is around. It is beautifully appointed and we loved the double spa bath. The breakfast provisions were amazing and so was the bottle of wine, cheese plate and chocolates. The open fire was going which gave the place an instant cosy attraction on the cool evening we arrived. We dined at 'Splash' just down the road which was organised by Andy and Jenny. Great seafood. We have booked other family members to stay here next week and hope we get another opportunity to stay again ourselves. Just loved it!
