We recently stayed at Harrigans Hunter Valley. The venue location was central to everything. We chose this venue because it had accommodation, a pool and the Pub. The accommodation rooms are all at ground level so good for people needing assistance (albeit the shower recess has a hob so not wheel chair friendly). There is parking directly outside the room. Each room appears to have a private patio at the rear. Ours in room #510 had a view over vines and the sunrise, so nice. The room was sizeable and comfy with a great A/C. The only concerns we had with the room were the bed mattress and the decor. The room needs a make over and is looking very tired. The mattress was memory foam and was still remembering all the past guests. We sank too deep into the mattress causing sore backs and neck. We could hear the music from the pub from our room but it wasn’t loud enough to hinder sleep. Ear plugs are provided in the room. The pool was great to cool off after very hot days. It was clean and cool. It’s 2m deep at one end so watch the little ones. Finally the Pub. Great crew servicing the bar and bistro. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Even the burly security guys were a great interaction when we got back from our day tour with sound advice on that night’s expected crowd and recommendations when to arrive for dinner. Much appreciated. The food was classic pub bistro but good, really good. We ate there the two nights we stayed. Recommend the pork belly (mains) and duck spring rolls (entre). We also had breakfast one morning which was plentiful ($25 full continental and a choice of a cooked meal included). $15 just for the continental. While the accommodation is getting old, we’d stay again but hopefully the mattresses are firmer.

Centrally located and within walking distance of the Hunter Valley Gardens and attached to Harrigans Irish Pub. We had a studio room looking onto a vineyard, it was quiet and convenient. The bathroom is huge and the shower had great pressure. However, the lack of amenities in the room was frustrating. Due to having no bowls, knives or forks we were forced to eat at Harrigans each morning. A small thing but it was annoying as we didn’t always want a huge breakfast. The bed was also veryyyy uncomfortable. Unlike other reviews I didn’t notice any need for major upkeep (except for maybe the decor). The lack of laundry amenities also made it difficult, even a few coin operated machines would have helped. I recommend Harrigans Accommodation for a budget friendly central stay in the Hunter, without the bells and whistles of a regular hotel.

It is a great pub right in the heart of Pokolbin and the fabulous wine growing district that is the Hunter Valley. It looses a couple of points though for the following reasons 1) dining - lunch and dinner are quite good but in all good conscious I can’t recommend breakfast, you will struggle to find any staff, We stood there for a long time waiting to be seated and when a waitress finally took us to a table she promptly disappeared again leaving us to find our own menus. On doing so we discovered that the options were VERY limited - basically pig out bacon & eggs or pig put hot cakes. Plenty of cafes in the retail precinct in the very close Hunter Valley Garden so that would be my breakfast recommendation. 2) accomodation - rooms are clean and comfortable but in need of refreshment as scratches chips and cracks were quite common. The pub itself was recently extended and refurbished but evidently the budget didn’t extend to the rooms. In fairness I would stay here again but some improvement in the areas noted is needed.

This is possibly one of the most overrated and over priced places to go. The rooms are so badly in need of renovations that it’s beyond belief. Power points hanging of walls, stained carpet broken vents and shower doors that don’t work, at $450 a night it is disgraceful. Won’t be back and definitely would not recommend this place. The sticky tape holding the front door together is just incredible.

I stayed one night at Harrington's in Pokolbin in Aug 2022.
Reception closed at 5pm and it's a shame I didn't check the room out properly prior to that. Needing a loo visit, the first thing I noted was no paper "seal" across the toilet to indicate it had been cleaned. I soon discovered why when I lifted the lid. There, to my shock were somebody's poop remnants in the bowl. It was disgusting. After flushing it and using disinfectant wipes, I could finally use it. That's when I noticed the state of the floor both in and out of the shower. It was all so grotty! At least the sheets were clean...I did check, but the carpet wasn't well cleaned. In the morning I opened the curtains for a view of the vineyard. But the patio ruined it. Dirty, green with slime in patches and weeds growing between the pavers. The upholstery on the chairs was also filthy. Definitely not a value for money experience and I will never stay again. On check out, I complained about the turds and lack of cleaning. All I got was oh...I'll let the cleaners know. Bit late Luv. I told her they would not get a pleasing review. I can say turds in the loo was something I'd not experienced in a "clean" motel before. I new experience I'm not grateful for. The pub and food however, were fantastic.

When you arrive here your mind goes WOW this is going to be an indulging, comfortable, relaxing place to stay with a fantastic location the gardens are so pretty and the pub is fancy and inviting but than you open the door to your room and your smile drops to the floor and so does your eyes, you see the dirty stained carpet and you don't want to take your shoes off and the mould in the bathroom were u think u will need a shower after a shower. There's dust and grim all over the walls. You try to keep the positive first impression alive so you look past it and when you notice the mouse in the bedroom run across the floor you tell yourself you didn't see it but it's no denying it when your 2 kids see it and freak out. So we move rooms to the "upgraded room" well it's a good size and great size fridge and not on ground level but the furniture is dated and it's the same unclean feeling as the first room with cockroaches running around and sleeping on your freash towels but with a 4am balloon ride your too tired and you try to sleep with your mouth closed. The next day we were moved again for the 3rd time in less than 24 hours assuming the 2nd room we were moved to was booked out, I must say this room the carpet was a little cleaner and the bedroom furniture was more updated than the first room, there was plenty of firewood so that was appreciated and we were given an $80 dining voucher as compensation which was used and the food was good but drinks are expensive but I did see a slug come out of the bottom of the mini fridge vent overall I wouldn't sleep here EVER again as it felt dirty the rooms need a facelift and a good scrub but the pub had a nice atmosphere and the food was good it's a great place for a social drink or dining experience. The staff were overall friendly but I was blocked in by another guest's car for a whole day and after making a complaint to reception the issue was never rectified it was just lucky we didn't need to travel out that day.

Run down, dirty and in need of a renovation. Absolutely not worth what we paid. We stayed in room/apartment 106 with 3 bedrooms and we were informed after entering the ducted didn’t work and hasn’t worked in a year. And that the only aircon is in the kitchen at the opposite end of the apartment. The girl on the phone asked if we wanted maintenance to look at the air conditioner. That wasn’t the issue. It was working fine if we wanted to sleep in the kitchen. We stayed with a heavily pregnant person and a baby and we were all sweating and wildly uncomfortable. On top of this there were no fans in rooms. Even with the aircon on full ball and windows shut for hours while we went there, we still came back to a hot box. No help from reception to just simply offered complimentary breakfast and apologies that there are no other rooms available. Honestly ridiculous.
On top of this, the rooms were not even nice. I’d probably pay half the amount to stay here. The remotes batteries were dead.
Don’t waste your money.

Attended a family wedding in the Hunter and a family member suggested that some of the guests stay at Harrigan's. We couldn't check in till 3pm and as we were being picked up by the bus at 3 pm it was a tight squeeze with the bus waiting for many guests. The room was ok but very dated, needs a bit of an overhaul but completely understand Covid has not been friendly for any hotels. Heater did not work very well and even temp was dialed up to 31 it just blew cool air. Not a nice environment to come back to on a cool evening. Breakfast was really disappointing, food was undercooked and cold with feedback to staff not really handled well. They looked completely overwhelmed. Coffee slopped in saucers, eggs were not cooked properly, and bacon looked like it had been boiled, not fried along with soggy half-cooked toast. Very disappointing and whilst the wedding venue was spectacular in an adjoining town Harrigans left a lot to be desired. Some care and attention to small details would assist.

We’ve stayed here a couple of times for the HVG Christmas Lights Display so a September visit was different for us. We booked the Premium Suite, which we’ve always wanted to do after catching a glimpse inside one year. The fireplace was the greatest appeal and it didn’t disappoint. Lots of firewood and fire starters available too. The suite was very clean and like the rest of Harrigans, it had a beautiful, homely feel. Our outlook over the garden was lovely and we were able to wander up to the vineyard. We were tucked away at the back and stayed mid-week so it was very quiet too. The linen was crisp and clean and the beds were comfy (firm). There are signs of ageing in the furniture and parts of the room but in all honesty, it feels so clean and maintained that they just add to the appeal of the place. Shower was great! Food was good and service at the Bistro was excellent; so handy to just wander home after eating way too much. We would book a suite for any future stays.

Check out their website. If you can't get any results that way give them a call they are very helpful. The rooms at the back near the pool are nice. I am not sure if they have any adjoining rooms or not.
There are more places to choose from in the Pokolbin area.
