Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We found your receptionist Nicole very sarcastic and patronising and not at all helpful. We arrived at 3.45 and she said we were lucky as she was just about to leave, despite the fact that our confirmation said check in til 5 pm. I asked if we had a nice room and she replied, "Well it has a bed". I also asked where we go for breakfast and she said it is in the room, apparently a muffin, some granola and yoghurt. My diet doesn't allow for any of those items so I asked if there were any other choices and her reply was we could go to Coles and buy our own, despite having paid extra for B & B! I also asked for 2 single duvets, rather than the one double one provided, which she said was not possible. Lastly I asked to see the Manager to which she replied he will be in later on Monday (this was Saturday) so again, totally unhelpful. The room was ok, but there was no safe and the lock on the front door was very feeble, so we did not want to leave anything of any value in the room. All in all, not a good experience and would not recommend it. We had friends staying at the Pokolbin Village, nearby, which was much better and less expensive.

This was our second time at The Hermitage Lodge and it was again a great stay. The lodge is very central to most wineries etc in the Hunter Valley but still in a quiet area. The rooms are spacious, well appointed, and clean. We will certainly stay here again if going back to the Hunter Valley.

We stayed 3 nights and loved it. Such a lovely quiet and serene setting. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. The room was clean and tidy. It is situated fairly close to many wineries and the gardens. Definitely worth staying here!

Convenient location, close to wineries and restaurants. Comfortable rooms, well decorated. Nice fresh pool for relaxing in the warm season. Expensive fixed menu restaurant at the facilities (Pescara). Very slow service and average dishes. Choose other options in the region.

Great accommodation for doing the wine tour in Hunter Valey. Spacious, comfortable accommodation. Continental breakfast supplied, which we had on the terrace overlooking the vineyard. Nice pool. Location is great and we actually cycled to a number of the local wineries. We did not manage to visit the restaurant but it looks good.

Lovely stay here, beautiful location and very good quality accommodation. Self catering or dining out is essential, but wine tour hosts will pick up from here. Would recommend this lodge, and was ideally located in the heart of the Hunter Valley.

A really nice place. Centrally located. Close to the vineyards. It got a 3 because despite calling and making the booking over the phone, they failed to tell us that the restaurant that night was closed. Had I known, I wouldn’t have booked. After a long day touring the area the last thing we wanted was to have to get (very expensive) local taxis. So do check that if you want to dine with them. The room was pleasant. The verandah was lovely with a really relaxing view of the vineyards. I would still go again for the location and value for money but I’d check the restaurant was open unless I had other dining plans
