Chateau Elan at The Vintage Hunter Valley garners appreciation for its spacious rooms and scenic wildlife views, with the golf course being a particular highlight for many guests. While the hotel's location is lauded for its proximity to local attractions and natural splendor, opinions on the rooms are mixed; they are perceived as sizeable but somewhat outdated, with some reviewers suggesting a need for refurbishment. Cleanliness is generally praised, though attention to detail, especially in bathrooms, could be enhanced. Guests acknowledge the staff's friendliness and helpfulness, but service quality appears to vary. Some travelers find the hotel to be a good value, while others question its worthiness of the cost.

Second time staying at Chateau Elan- i'll go through the negatives and positives -
Negative- Rooms weren't cleaned fully- floors were dirty in the bathroom after the cleaners had came through. Rooms are getting tired and need some attention especially for the price of the rooms.
Positives- Legends Restaurant was excellent and first class- we had a 50th wedding anniversary and the restaurant manager Biljana made the night special- food was on point and the cake made specially was excellent as well. No complaints at all. The wait staff were excellent as well and dealt with the children perfectly during the meal.
Golf course was great- 18 holes and in perfect condition, good grounds staff.
Check-in was easy no issues there- welcoming.
Overall worth the time to stay and enjoy.

Our family group stayed here for a couple of nights mid week in the 1 bedroom villas. They were clean, spacious and overall the property is presented beautifully, especially the grounds. Legends restaurant was closed on the tue and wed for our stay so we dined at spike bar (limited dinner menu) and received excellent service. We also dined at nineteen which was also lovely and fast service.

Buffet breakfast was mid - typical Australian style and most things were being restocked. You can purchase barista coffee but ask for extra hot if you like it hot.

For $250 a night it was excellent value and we will be returning.

Currently staying at the Chateau Elan for 2 nights. While we chose one of the lead in rooms, I assumed that we would still overall receive a level of service one would expect from a 5 star hotel. Having travelled extensively and worked in the Industry previously, it would have to be one of the worst rooms I have encountered - it was very tired and depressing - chipped cabinets, dirty floors, only local TV, fly screen door came off the balcony door, no hanging space in the wardrobe, a cheap hook where a picture would have hung (no decor to speak of), a bed that hung so low on one side it was like rolling down a hill and a toilet that kept running! We arrived in the evening and had intended on having in-room dining after a long day, but we didn’t want to stay in this sad room… so went to dinner in the bistro followed by a trip to 7 Eleven so we could at least get some water. The minibar was abysmal and I didn’t trust the cleanliness.
On day two we skipped breakfast, by this time, I had checked out the hotel reviews as I realised we had made a mistake in coming here - reviews about the breakfast were poor. We left in the early afternoon to go to a concert, our purpose for visiting the Hunter Valley. I put the “Please make up our room” sign on the door and as we left we greeted the room attendant on our way out. Given we had been to an open air concert with 35 degree heat we were looking forward to a quick shower and going to bed when we got back. As we approached the room we noticed that the sign on the door was still there and to our extreme frustration, discovered that the room had not been cleaned and we had no towels. Despite the room attendant seeing us depart the room on the way out in the afternoon, I cannot fathom how that could have occurred. We immediately requested towels and for the bed to made. When the poor receptionist arrived with towels and started making the bed, we discovered that we weren’t entitled to clean sheets - only new guests get clean sheets (I hope!)
I understand that old hotels exist and likely the owners don’t want to invest money into them, but when I book a 5 star hotel I expect a certain value for money - or at least a place that’s worth leaving my own home for! Please don’t market yourself as something you clearly aren’t… which is one step up from a hostel.

Hello Mahtob, Thank you for taking the time to review our Resort. We are very sorry and disappointed your recent stay has not met your expectations on this occasion, and is in contrast to the many positive reviews we receive on this and other review platforms. We value your feedback, although feel your comments regarding our buffet breakfast is somewhat misleading given by your own admission, you skipped breakfast. Additionally, our extensive mini bar showcasing local products has we believe been misrepresented by your comments in this instance. Perhaps your own mindset to search for the bad in all has somewhat hindered your ability to see what others see and consistently enjoy when staying with us. We will use your views proactively as part of our continual effort to improve the quality of the overall experience we strive to provide. We hope for the opportunity to welcome you back to The Chateau Elan at The Vintage, Hunter Valley and The Vintage Golf Club again.

Check-In Experience:
Although I understand check-in is at 3:00 PM, we arrived at 1:30 PM and were disappointed by the lack of flexibility. We were told rooms weren’t available due to staff shortages, and other rooms had been prioritized. As paying guests, we expected higher priority, especially at a 5-star hotel. It would have been appreciated if an alternative solution, like offering a ready room, was provided.

“Private Villa” Misleading:
We expected a truly private experience, as advertised on your website, but were placed in a building with multiple rooms shared with other guests. This was misleading, especially given the $400 per night price point. Additionally, we had children staying next door and downstairs, which further impacted our privacy. To make matters worse, our room had a blocked view, despite paying for a golf view.

Bathroom Cleanliness & Maintenance:
The bathroom needed more attention. The spa jets in the bath emitted debris, the tiles were cracked, and hand towels weren’t replenished on the second day. While the shower had strong water pressure, the overall bathroom state did not meet the standards expected of a 5-star property.

Room Cleaning and Duvet Issues:
On the second day, I called at 12:30 PM to request cleaning, as no one had come by. I was told departures were prioritized over in-house guests, which felt inconsiderate. When I asked for a duvet cover, I was told only sheets were available to secure the duvet, but they didn’t stay in place overnight. The duvet also had yellow stains, which was unacceptable for a 5-star hotel.

Buffet Quality:
The buffet breakfast was disappointing. The coffee was reheated, and the fruit wasn’t replenished quickly. At one point, I noticed a fly on the fruit, and it stayed there for about 50 minutes without anyone addressing it. For the price paid, the buffet quality was far below expectations.

Used to be a very nice, now run down and not as clean as we have experienced previously. Doors were left open on very hot days for the buffet breakfast, which allowed flies easy access. The reason I was told was that other guests were sitting outside and the door cannot be opened from the outside. Then I would suggest changing the door or charge the flies $28 for the buffet breakfast as well.

Saturday 1 night in the Spa suite. Looking for a lux stop stop over with Nice restaurant so we did not have to drive once we arrived. Found out after trying to book restaurant it was closed for Reno, not mentioned when booking room. Bar food available but we had time to book a close by restaurant that was great. First impression of the Vintage was Wow. Then started to notice a few little things. No covered walkways, amenities in separate areas. They do offer transport in covered golf carts. Furniture in room Scratched paint missing. carpet lifting, light out in main area, tiles around Toilet door hinges broken like its about to fall off. Pictures on wall displaying Sydney and books in bookshelf about Sydney and 10 things to do in Sydney. Would have been better feel if there was books and pictures promoting the Hunter valley instead. Breakfast was the Standard motel buffet however was not hot and coffee from the machine was not good, poor value. On the plus side Very quite room, could just barely hear slight hum from aircon. Clean room and comfortable bed, 2 different size pillows, big plus.

We booked this hotel on a booking engine after the previous hotel we had booked was given the thumbs down by friends. We are so pleased we booked Chateau Elan. From the moment we arrived the staff were welcoming and helpful. On arrival at the room we were so impressed with the suite and the peacefulness of the surroundings with kangaroos hopping past on the golf course! The facilities were great including the outdoor pool. 19 was busy place to eat. Lots of place to explore within easy reach inc skydiving and hot air ballooning. Wish we had stayed longer.

I recently had a disheartening experience with Chateau Elan that has left me compelled to share my frustration. I had made a reservation for 17-18 December, 2023, but due to the proximity of fires in the area, I felt the need to prioritise the safety of myself and my family, prompting a cancellation.

Despite my genuine concern for our well-being and the explanation of the precarious situation, Chateau Elan refused to issue a refund, citing that their hotel was not directly affected by the fires. While I understand that the physical location of the hotel may not have been compromised, the lack of empathy towards our safety concerns was disappointing.

To make matters worse, when I attempted to gather more information about the fires over the weekend, the hotel's office hours were limited, making it nearly impossible to get the necessary details. I expected a more accommodating approach during such a critical time.

This experience has left me deeply dissatisfied with Chateau Elan's customer service and their apparent disregard for the safety and well-being of their guests. In times of uncertainty, one would hope for a more compassionate response from a service provider, especially in the hospitality industry.

I hope this review serves as a reminder to the hotel to reconsider their policies and adopt a more understanding stance towards guests who find themselves in situations beyond their control. A little compassion can go a long way in maintaining customer loyalty and positive reviews.

Dear Pimpnlay, Thank you for your review, and for providing a platform to provide clarity, transparency and response to your concern. As already explained to you via direct correspondence and response to reviews you have provided on Google, the fires in the Abermain area occurred on the 14th of December, and were under control by the morning of 15th December some 2 days prior to your scheduled check-in date of the 17th. The fires did not impact our operation in any way, with ability to travel to and from the Resort not impacted, no impact on the air quality in the Pokolbin region, and all normal resort activities freely available. By contacting us on the 14th or 15th directly to ease your concerns, we would have freely provided you up to date advice and reassurance of the fires having no impact in providing you a comfortable stay experience, as many of our guests enjoyed during this period and the days after. You attempted to contact Reservations by phone on Saturday the 16th of December one day prior to your arrival, and outside of our Reservation business operating hours and cancellation timline. Unfortunately, we have received no communication from Hotels.com the Website you booked through, either by phone or email, on the 16th of December requesting a cancellation on your behalf. Whilst we completely understand, empathize and respect your decision to want to cancel your booking at short notice, it was your decision to cancel. You made this decision with the full knowledge of the Cancellation Terms and Conditions outlined on the Hotels.com website when making your booking through this booking channel, and to which you accepted when securing your reservation. It is disheartening for us as a respected accommodation provider to be required to repeatedly defend this circumstance based on a narrative and decision you have made.

I stayed here with my family and we enjoyed our stay, while some things could be improved, the location was excellent. There was a fireplace in our room which we loved, and while it might be a fire hazard for some families as it is open and positioned low enough for children to reach, it was not an issue for us. Some of the room features are a bit tired including the carpeting, chipped bathroom mirror, water damaged bathroom cabinetry, and loose fixtures. The kitchen and bathroom amenities supplied are generous and of a nice quality, and the bed was very comfortable. We tried to go to the on site restaurant on our first night but surprisingly, though it was off season it was fully booked, they didn't offer to book us in at any other day or time so we had our lunches/dinners elsewhere. Buffet breakfast was included, quality was okay, but a lot of things ran out and were not restocked.

Hey Marshy. The breakfast was ok but at $25 if not included in package value questionable. We found the food in Legends grill pricey and not good quality. If you are using a discount travel supplier you may find you have a restricted menu. We used Luxury escapes and found that to be the case. Legends Grill has no dress code but most people wore smart casual. There is no room service.
