Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Worst accommodation ever, one step up from a drug den. Second floor had sash windows with no screens that were open, blood splatters on the back of the bathroom door. Torn lounge suites that looked like dogs beds and wouldn’t look out of place on a rednecks front porch, nail polish spilled throughout the apartment. Unserviceable lock on sliding door, broken glass and glitter on the floor, discarded toiletry packaging on the floor under the vanity in bathroom. Kids drawings on most walls and blinds, kids stickers half peeled off on the wall in the master bedroom. Oven was to grotty to even touch, we purchased new mugs to have coffee. The only highlight was our car still having all four tyres and no smashed windows on our departure.

Do not be fooled by the photos that they use to advertise their properties. The photos were definitely not accurate. We arrived to find a derelict premises, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt in the hopes that the inside of the apartment was what was advertised - it was not. We arrived at the door to the apartment to find a disgusting dirty nappy hanging from the tree next to the door. Broken plastic toys, rubbish and waste in the gardens and around the patio area. Upon entering, we were greeted with the strong overwhelming smell of chemicals and air freshener. The walls were dirty and stained, the floors were so sticky our shoes stuck to them - no way were any of us taking our shoes off! When checking the rooms we found disgustingly stained bed linen and pillows, beds that may as well have been concrete blocks for how comfortable they were. No cupboard doors, a dirty kitchen and questionable bathrooms. There was no way in hell I was allowing my children to step foot in there let alone sleep in this pit. When we called to complain, my husband was immediately put on hold and left there. We had to hang up and call back to get someone to speak to us. Their initial suggestion was to send someone around to tidy a bit more and offer us a small percentage discount off of our stay. We refused and demanded a refund because there was no way in hell that a quick tidy up could save this situation. 0 out of 5 stars, 100% would not recommend to anyone. Absolutely disgusting.

Omg where do I start with this review?! My parents and I travelled to Newcastle for an overnight stay and we were greeted by the first security door wedged open using a fire extinguisher 🧯 We walked up the grotty stairs that has all sorts of unknown food articles on it and arrived at our room. The code worked to get in (so that’s a tick!). Believe me, I need to give this place the opportunity for a tick, no matter how small because there will not be many!! Anyway, we entered a rather dodgy and unclean apartment where the curtains were falling off their rails to escape and the sliding doors were wide open. Upon inspection, we found the former guests had left us some food in the fridge - stale milk, chocolate, cheese and soft drink. As kind as it was, we refrained from consuming these items 🥴 We found toilet paper under the bathroom sink that must have been there since pre Covid as it was growing its own bacteria 🦠 all over it. The oven had left over burnt offerings from who knows how long ago, there was something special wrapped up and tossed into the bottom drawer of the bathroom that we left 🤢 Incidentally, this drawer was broken. There was only one bowl so we had to toss a coin to see who was able to use it. I actually didn’t care that I lost!!! We had to wash the dishes before we used any of them and also purchase dish cloths so that we could give the apartment a clean. 🧼 🧽 It was only then that I felt I could sit on the couch and read the reviews, which in hindsight, we should have done before booking. As the purpose of our stay was for me to graduate 👩🏻‍🎓 at the uni, I was relying on a few items - the hairdryer and an iron and ironing board. I could see where the hairdryer should have been and there was an ironing board but the cover must have decided to clear off along with the DVD player, the back cover to the tv remote and sanity. I had to iron my shirt with my hair straightener. I always give credit where credit is due and the shower pressure and heat was perfect, even if I did wear plastic bags on my feet in case I caught something! My dad agrees with me re the shower. However, my mum does not agree as she had to have a cold shower 🚿 🥶 Also, when I hung my towel on the towel rail, it landed on the floor, along with the rail. By this stage, I was actually really disappointed as many of the reviews for these apartments mentioned cockroaches 🪳 and we had not seen any. I did not have to wait too long and we did get to see Mr C Roach! 🪳 He made his way across the kitchen wall and I realized that all the other reviews were right!! One of the last things we had to do was brush our teeth. I did not have any issues with this and I had good water pressure. However, it seems my mum is cursed as when she went to rinse her mouth, there was no water!!! The tap had shut up shop and left the building!!! ‘No worries’, I said, we still had the kitchen sink. But that was no longer working either. 🤔😐 This meant that there was only one flush for the toilet... we decided to let dad have this one flush. 💩 Would I recommend this place? Um...absolutely not!!! If I can’t share photos here, feel free to message me!! Speaking of photos - the tech team at Bluegum Apartments have incredible photoshop skills as I didn’t recognise one single thing in our apartment!!! Even the colours on the beds disappeared from the room!!! 😂😂😂

Where do I start. This is place to definitely not stay - front door difficult to open. Had to contact agent as we had been given the wron pass code - Two storey apartment with both bathrooms on top floor. - No bath mats or hand towels - Dirty pillow cases left inside front door - Strong sewerage smell coming from outside - Apartment had sleeping for six people but only enough cutlery and crockery for 3 people - When arrived inside apartment all blinds and curtains were closed and TV left on - very creepy!!! - our allocated parking space had been taken by what looked like a local tradie - wifi unreliable - tear on one of the couches - unable to sweep or mop floor as no broom or mop provided - shelf missing off door in fridge. Also dings on outside of fridge. - hot water in shower takes an abnormally long time to heat up and when it does it runs hot and cold. - beds uncomfortable. Wife and I woke up with sore backs. - only one small towel rail in bathroom - no provision for hand towel or hooks to hang clothes. - dishwasher not working - no bedside table lamps in either bedroom - no latch on gate from unit veranda on to street - some of the chrome covering on shower hose missing - on arrival it looked like floors hadn't been swept. - no extra blankets provided Only positives I can give are the balcony off the master bedroom and that the complex looked nice from the outside and close to shops and plenty of storage

Learnt a very valuable lesson not booking through booking.com. Booked in advance of 2wks.collected keys at 2pm only to arrive to a 3brm apartment that had not been cleaned. looked nothing like the photos on TripAdvisor. contacted management who apologized and said a team of cleaners were on way.waited 1hr &30mins no one arrived so thankyou to the "mercure" for accommodating our last minute booking and making our stay very welcoming and also being covid safe😊

We flew up from Melbourne to stay in Newcastle for the weekend. First impressions were not good, apartment was not clean and they had not delivered a port-a-cot we had asked for. Access to the foyer and apartment is via key pad, you are texted details before you arrive. We arrived Friday afternoon and decided to walk to the local pub for dinner. After returning from dinner some 2 hours later we were horrified to find our rental car missing and the apartment ransacked. Witnesses to the break in confirmed several teenagers were responsible, identifying one as a previous tenant of our apartment. It was found out that she gained access to the apartment and our possessions via the security key pad. When we contacted blue gum apartments for an explanation they told us the codes had been changed. This was clearly not true. They also failed to offer us any assistance on the night and we were forced to find alternate accommodation at our own expense. This was truly the worst holiday experience me and my family have ever had. This apartment complex is horrendously managed and poorly maintained, and I wouldn't wish the same experience on anyone else.

We turned up to a very dirty apartment. Walking around for 5 mins without shoes on turned our feet black. Beds were sunken in the middle and in need of new mattresses. The whole place was dirty. Blinds were broken. Flyscreen had holes in them. Place had mosquitoes everywhere and cockroaches came out at night. We paid for two nights. Left after one could stay in such bad conditions. They refuse a refund.

Simply just don’t. Arrived to find filth everywhere, apartment appeared to have not been cleaned for months, stains on couch, bed sheets, food stuffs in our bedside drawer and inside oven. Have since heard may be used as crisis accommodation but definitely for tradies up from Sydney. Right on a major road hence noise was a factor from 4.30am. Apart from being close to shopping and restaurants has nothing else going for it. Would not recommend to my worst enemy. Top two of worst places I’ve stayed in.

so our second night here and have 4 more to go. just very very very bad servicing we had to go shopping for cleaning aids and even a mop as we could not stay like it was, 3 hrs of cleaning latter ###### even sheets were dirty dooners with blood on them and hole in sheets and old bed spreads as sheets ##### in hindsight we should have refused and asked for our money back, (wonder what would have happened) so texted and emailed the agent with no reply. Folks stay away from this place, as a media personality i will pass on the pics to media as i sure its a good story for telly, LOL... WHAT A DIVE someone must answer for this and fix as the units could be very pleasant if maintained ,think we may get the cleaning expenses refunded.######

Ive stayed in some dirty disgusting places in 3rd world countries that were cleaner than this place. The reason i titled this what i did is because my friends and i were visiting Newcastle to compete in a cricket tournement over the weekend. Our opponents told us that they worked on the building and painted it when it was renovated and said it was renowned by locals as used as a brothel and prostitution. This was also confirmed be staff working at the nearby pub. Yuk. Firstly, when you book, part of your conditions is no smoking(refer to photos and you will see that this rule is not taken seriously). From the outside as you arrive you are greeted by what seems to be a fairly modern building. But as you enter the apartment then you realise how neglected and unclean the place is. I truely believe that when the cleaners come here, they may remove the trash...but thats it. We had residue run marks down the walls from grease, down the faces of the couch, air-con unit has not been cleaned in months, pubic hair on the bathroom floors, water in the dinner plates from last time they were washed, hand smudge marks up the walls, blood spots and hair on the sheets. Yuk!!! Further more, the blankets provided (for the middle of winter!) Were thin and made from polyester/fake wool. The shower in one bathroom had half a shower screen so water flooded the floor. There was very minimal cooking utensils, no chopping board, a blunt knife to prep food. This place is nothing more than a 1 Star venue. 3.5 Stars is an insult. If someone knows how we can get our money back please let me know because $87 per person for 6 people for 2 nights is a rip off.
