I see this hotel is rated as one star on google maps, and I’m not not quite sure why. I stayed with a couple of mates in Room 12, and we all found it quite clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly, the room was clean. It’s within walking distance of several decent pubs for food. Bus stop to the city and a 7-11 convenience store are a 5 minute walk away. The only complaints are one of my mates said one of the single beds was about the firmest bed he’s ever slept on with the worlds slimmest pillow!
My bed was fine, and the unit had a full sized fridge. They have filled in the pool, so don’t come expecting a cool dip, but I would stay here again. Staff, if you are reading this, the cold tap in the bathroom needs the washer replaced. Our room was made up daily too.

They took really good care of us and when we had to extend our stay a few times, they made sure we didn’t have to change rooms once. The executive room is spacious and comfortable, the bed is good and so is the shower. Only thing missing is a cook top.

Stayed in room 37 which is a ground floor room close to reception, pool and easy access. Units 36, 27, and 38 are all in same block.
Unlike most garden variety best westerns, our motel room had a small semi private patio out the back accessed by a sliding glass door, and a separate sink from the bathroom, with a toaster, microwave, electric jug. and some cutlery.
Also adjacent to the pool area, which is about 10 meters from room 37, is a gas barbeque area (free) and some tables and chairs for eating what you made on the barbeque ~ all of which is not usually found in your land greedy small city motels.
A good room. Comfortable beds..
Pity no reading lights by the beds.
wifi was erratic. Shut off after a small period of inactivity...
Checkout 10:00 am.
Queen and a king single $130.00
It is what it is....3 stars plus.

Thank you for submitting a review for your stay in room 37 at BEST WESTERN Travellers Motor Village. We appreciate you providing such in depth information on that specific room for those would be travellers out there! In regards to our wifi, we have implemented some bandwidth management to make sure all our guests have equal access to our complimentary wifi. Part of that function is logging off any inactive guests to improve the service for those currently active, however by the sounds of it this may have been a bit too effective by logging you out after only a short time. My apologies for any inconvenience caused and i will be looking into it to make sure there is an adequate period of permitted inactivity to prevent this happening in the future. We're also sourcing some reading lamps to put in those motel rooms so we really appreciate the feedback.

Travelling with someone who is not my partner and selected a self-contained villa online. When we arrived, there was just one double bed in the shared sleeping / living room. The photos of the villas on the TMV website has only one picture showing both beds and that has the double in one room and a single in the living area. As we were not a couple, that is what we wanted and expected. We paid $150 expecting 2 rooms. I could have paid $100 in Newcastle for a single room with 2 beds.

When I called the reception, I was told there was a sofa bed and if I pulled it out it should have sheets on it. The staff came to the villa and the sofa was opened, ejecting a number of crumbs, half eaten chips and an old drink bottle covered on cobwebs. The sheets were on the sofa bed, but from when?

I just slept in my clothes on top of the sheets and showered in the morning.

The person who had been on reception was quite dismissive suggesting the problem was because we booked on line. ( why be on booking.com if it's not ok to book on line?). If we didn't like it, we could get a refund and go somewhere else ( at 9pm on a Saturday).

But to add some balance, if there had been a separate room as in the photo on the website and the bed had been made up and not filled with what had fallen down the back of the couch, then it might not have been too bad. It was clean, quiet and good enough for a one night stay. But not for $150 a night in Newcastle.

On a last minute trip to Newcastle for medical reasons, I found this motel in an instant for a price I was comfortable paying for the night.
The pictures do match the rooms, they are that clean and tidy. Our room was comfortable and well appointed.
The hosts were lovely and accommodating when asked about possibly having to stay a second night, there were going to make it happen (fortunately we didn't need to but the offer was there).
I would recommend anyone headed to Newcastle to stay at the Travellers Inn

Such a hidden gem. Affordable prices and old school service. Motel was presented perfectly and room was clean and comfortable. We stayed in a villa at the back of the property and it was very quiet. In such a central location plenty of free parking, pool and wifi. Thanks we’ll definitely return in the future

I stayed here with my mum on the weekend and not a pleasant experience.

This is not a clean motel and to be a Best Western is a complete joke.

The property is badly run down, filthy and as others have commented on and cockroaches is an understatement, they were in our room everywhere, I woke up to one on my arm while I was asleep.

The room smelt, packet of empty nuts under our bed, (I dropped my ring and bent down to pick it up and saw under bed), I would assume under beds would be checked, bathroom floor had a P hair on it

The pool looked green so did not swim in it.

Overall THUMBS DOWN, and as the title suggests "dont bother".

Dear Ally I am disappointed to read the experience you recently had at our property however I do sincerely thank you for taking the time to detail areas of improvement we require. We recently had our Pest Control company in to eradicate pests and I am assured this problem has being rectified. We are investing financial and other resources into the property to replace various things around the resort including beds, tree removal, new furniture and much more and the current month will see some major improvements. We do have our pool tested by a local company and I assure you the PH and chemical levels are always monitored to ensure we comply with what is required, perhaps there was rain the day before which turned the pool the colour you stated. Having a empty packet under the bed is not acceptable and I have personally addressed this with our Housekeepers and we now have a tick box check system that ensures this and other areas of the rooms are fully checked and cleaned including the ensuite. I sincerely apologise for the experience you endured however this is not a normal service level we provide to our guests and I would encourage you to please make contact when you are back in Mayfield so we can look after your next stay and visit to the area, we do hope and trust your mum is well.

8 families stayed here over the long weekend as it was the only last minute booking we could make which would accomodate all of us, however it was the worst decision we have ever made. The place is so dirty and unhygienic and cockroaches have taken over the place. They were falling from the roof and crawling on the walls and even in the beds. All 8 families had disgusting incidents and each room had some dysfunctional aspect to it! To top it of the service was terrible and receptionists extremely rude. This is a place for cockroaches not people!

Needed to stay overnight in the area and found Newcastle prices far too expensive for my liking.

Driving from Sydney I had not booked a room so called the property along the way, the Receptionist could not be more helpful and I secured a booking.

After booking I went onl;ine and read through some of the reviews and thought Oh My what am I in for, the previous reviews could not be further from truth, sorry past reviewers.

I arrived to a warm smile from the receptionist, same lady I spoke to about the booking on the way up, went straight to room.

The room was a great standard, perhaps I was given a different room, it was immaculate, throughly clean and I must admit I was pleasantly delighted, had all the mod cons I required, nice flat screen TV, moden bathroom and comfortable bed.

I had no insects in my room, perhaps as the owners stated the Pest Control Company had been but I certainly saw or had no pests in my room.

Had dinner at a local restaurant which i must say was superb, beautifully presented and taste was the same as some major 5 star Syd restaurants.

This property does not serve breakfast however there is an option to get a breakfast pack or go accross the road to another property they own, Citigate Motel, which serves a hot breakfast every morning, I choose neither as my stomach was still recovering from the 3 course meal I enjoyed last night.

Checked out with the same friendly smile and drove off.

I detailed all this because after reading all the previous reviews I thought perhaps some may have been a little too harsh on their reviews, I had no problems at all and I would return anyday to the Best Western Travellers Motor Village.

Its very easy to knock motels when they do the incorrect thing but not many say positive things about them, all i know is when I left i was one happy Customer, well done Travellers.

Room was suitable for an overnight stay as travelling for personal reasons. Took 5 minutes for someone to arrive at reception despite ringing the bell twice and then finally calling out. If I had not booked in would have gone elsewhere. Wifi was absymal. Price for budget accommodation was bit exxy considering the size of the room. Won't stay here again.
