Crystalbrook has got it right on with customer service. My wife and I stayed there Saturday night, and we were not disappointed at all
Service was friendly with plenty of rooms.
The hotel was clean and comfortable. We stayed only one night, so I couldn't vouch for a more prolonged stay.

The room was lovely, clean & comfortable and stylish.

Ms Marys, for what it offered, was expensive and the menu available at night was not of great choice. We were offered a limited choice from the lunch menu when I asked "Is that all there is available tonight?" about the evening menu. I felt the picture of the food online was false advertising, at least for the evening. You wouldn't really go there for dinner, though what we did get was good food.

The bar was a great ambience and view, but it closed at 10.30pm (Friday Night). We weren't notified that it was the last drink at 10.30, not informed, just ignored. Our empty glasses sat in front of us for more than 15 minutes, until I realised they were tidying up. The barman was didn't really care about us. The snack kitchen closed at 10. The young woman was apologetic and friendly.

The Bar time says 4pm til late on line. We weren't the only ones still there.
The Hotel could at least make the bar available to those staying at the hotel, until Midnight.
How easy would it have been to have a bowl of nuts or lovely plate of chocolate or cheese and biscuits available (for after the play has finished at the Civic Playhouse next door)?
The hotel needs to be informed about what is happening in town, even during COVID.

Was it because of COVID restrictions that we wanted more? If so this could have been relayed to us more clearly. It is supposed to be 5 STAR after all.

Dear Barbarsan644, Thank you for feedback regarding your recent stay with us at Crystalbrook Kingsley. I am thrilled to hear you enjoyed the accommodation and as you said, was clean and stylish. We are sorry to hear that we fell short of your expectations when visiting Ms Mary and Romberg's. The hotel has unfortunately had to make operational changes to adjust to the government Covid-19 guidelines. This has resulted in having to reduce trading hours for our venues and the capacity levels, therefore the hotel experience may have seemed a little different. It is disappointing to hear that you were given the impression that our team did not care about your experience, as guest feedback indicates we achieve high guest satisfaction in almost every case. It is through feedback such as yours that we may continuously ensure our guests receive the highest levels of service. We hope for the opportunity to better serve you next time and please stay safe during these times. Carl Taranto General Manager, Crystalbrook Kingsley

My husband and I visited Kingsley for an overnight trip, having booked before the opening of the hotel. We have often missed the presence of a 5 star hotel in Newcastle and were very excited to visit. We stayed in a Kingsley Master suite and overall were extremely impressed with the design, views and quality of the finishings. The bathroom was divine and the size of the room was decent. A few strange things we noticed were super small bath towels and no soap dishes, but this was very minor in the scheme of things. The ambiance of the hotel and restaurants is refined whilst still being welcoming, and we really enjoyed visiting Rombergs Bar for evening drinks. The service from the waitstaff was very good and the views are great. The reception staff were friendly too.

There were however several incidents that took away the relaxed weekend we were hoping for. Initially upon checking in we went down to the parking garage and buzzed through, having already phoned ahead to pre-book parking. The reception staff instructed that we needed to reverse out and go around the block to park out the front to check in before we could park our car. This was really stressful as there were delivery trucks near the parking entry and reversing up the steep incline of the driveway was a nightmare. It would have helped if we were given clear instructions on this prior to arriving. Check in was prompt but upon exploring our room we tested a nearby door only to end up in the room next door! The adjoining doors were unlocked and people had their belongings in the adjacent room that we entered by mistake. We phoned reception to request that they come to lock the door but 90 minutes later had to call and make the request again as they never arrived.

Once our room was secured we enjoyed an evening out and upon returning to go to bed discovered that there is poor sound proofing. We listened to loud music from the nearby pubs and clubs until nearly 1am before finally getting some sleep. We were pretty tried when it was time to check out, and once again the staff were friendly but charged over $1300 to our credit card having taken a hold for the room rate, then billing again on top of this. In all of the hotels we have visited this has never occurred and it is common practice to remove the room rate from the held amount.

Overall this hotel does provide a lovely new option for Newcastle but the service and communication need a lot of work. The sound issue is also a huge problem and I would not stay here again on a weekend.

Dear MelanieM04218, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent experience at Crystalbrook Kingsley. I am delighted to hear that you were extremely impressed with our Kingsley Master room. As you mentioned, the room has exceptional views over Newcastle Harbour, along with the amazing bathroom which we too agree is divine. Our guests have really enjoyed the ambience up in Romberg’s, and we are so glad you had a great experience during your visit. We are sorry to hear that parking your vehicle upon arrival proved to be a challenge. Our main entry to the hotel is located on King Street which provides a council enforced fifteen-minute parking zone for guests to park whilst checking into the hotel. To ensure our secure parking remains exclusive to in-house guests only, our team provide parking options to all guests upon check-in and provide access to the carpark via your room key should it be required. It is also disappointing to hear that the adjoining door in your room was unlocked. This is certainly not the service our team strive to provide. Your comments are certainly important, and they have been alerted to our Housekeeping department for important discussion. I apologise this occurred. It saddens us to read that you were unable to get to sleep until 1am. Crystalbrook Kingsley has double glazed glass windows in all rooms, and I am disappointed to hear this measure did not provide you with more comfort during your stay. Finally, I have investigated the charges processed to your credit card at the hotel. The team rightly got authorisation to cover room charges upon your arrival. After your checkout, this amount was amended to match your final balance and therefore was not billed again. Some bank statements make this appear as pending transaction and will release the holding funds within 24hrs. Please contact us at the hotel to investigate further should it be required. Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to having an opportunity to welcome you back to Crystalbrook Kingsley in the future. Carl Taranto General Manager, Crystalbrook Kingsley

Was looking forward to our first stay here and was not overly impressed. The room has nice finishes and the environmental efforts made are great (no wasteful single use soaps, for example). But the bathroom is a bit small, towels feel cheap and the room is quite noisy - can hear the lifts going up and down and other guests coming and going on one side, and the road on the other. Lifts are also a bit of a pain - with only 2 servicing the whole hotel and the popular rooftop bar, it can be a long wait at times.

Air conditioning also didn’t work initially, took a while for someone to come and look, still didn’t work and reception wouldn’t do the obvious thing and just move us to another room, despite saying others were available; they insisted we give them more time to try sort it out first. After coming back a few hours later, the air conditioning was just working with a weak airflow. Didn’t have the energy to go back yet again and ask for another room - it was a long night.

For the price charged, I expected better and probably won’t be back.

The Chrystalbrook Kingsley is a welcome addition to the choice of quality hotels now available in Newcastle. It's very good, but it does have some minor shortcomings that lowers its rating from a level of excellence.
Firstly, the positives. The hotel is well located and is within walking distance of all the main points of interest in the Newcastle CBD, Honeysuckle Wharf and the Darby Street precinct. The rooms are quiet, well equipped and have comfortable beds. The staff are also very friendly, efficient and accommodating with their responses to questions and requests.
The hotel is located in the re-purposed council offices. This is a circular building which results in the rooms being pie shaped around a central core. Thus, whilst there is good use of space within the rooms, they aren't as spacious as similarly priced hotels.
I also found it surprising that I was unable to have a nightcap in one of the hotel's bars as these had closed by 8.30pm.
Finally, at $50 per night, I thought the valet parking was a bit pricey for a non-capital city location.
Given the use of an existing building, there isn't much that could be done regarding room sizes, but I think keeping the bars open later and reducing parking costs would be good first steps in improving the experience.

Dear Mark S, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay at Crystalbrook Kingsley. We are pleased to hear that you found the hotel to be well-located and that you enjoyed the comfort of our rooms and the friendly service provided by our staff. We appreciate your constructive comments regarding the room size, the operating hours of our bars, and the cost of valet parking. We understand that these aspects impacted your overall experience, and we will certainly take them into consideration as we continue to improve our offerings. Regarding the room size, we do acknowledge the unique layout of our property due to its re-purposed council office's structure. However, we are constantly looking for ways to maximize the space and comfort within the rooms. In regard to the operating hours of our bars, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We will review our current policies to ensure that our guests can enjoy a nightcap at their convenience. As for the valet parking cost, our pricing is in line with the value we aim to provide to our guests, as well as the nearby options. We truly value your feedback as it helps us to identify areas for improvement. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with an even better experience. Warm regards,

Overall, great hotel. Well located in Newcastle. The room had a full view of the park, the king bed was comfortable and reasonable size bathroom and shower. The staff were friendly and check-in/out was seamless without paper receipts. We had breakfast on the top level with the 180 views of Newcastle but be wary of the price per head. Would stay here again.

We stayed at the Crystalbrook Kingsley Newcastle on the weekend (14-15 May 2022), and I was extremely disappointed. The room was absolutely awful, especially when you pay $435 for a single night you certainly don't expect to open the front door of your room and be standing directly at the bathroom basin. No hallway, nothing, just walk straight into the bathroom sink at the front door. Every time we had a shower the toilet paper got completely soaked and was then rendered un-usable. I booked months in advance and was given the worst room I have ever stayed in. And I travel a lot. We also booked the Taste of Hunter Wine Tasting from 4pm to 5pm, of which it was only us 2 and 1 other person. Then when we went to dinner we got given the worst table with no window view, even though we had booked and participated in the other dining and wine tasting experiences they had on offer (of which NO other guests had obviously participated in, however they all got the nice window seats). The only positive I can say is about the staff at the restaurant were very nice. We certainly will NOT RECOMMEND this place to anyone.

Dear P2651KMannettet, Thank you very much for sharing your recent experience at Crystalbrook Kingsley with the Trip Advisor community. I am very sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us, and I know that team have reached out to you to discuss your concerns. The team have also made me aware of your attendance at our fabulous Taste of the Hunter experience and the additional tastings they offered you as a gesture for not meeting your room expectations. In terms of your table allocation in the restaurant, should the team have been made aware of your disappointment they would have done all possible to satisfy your requirements. Thank you once again for your feedback, and we hope to gain an opportunity to redesign your memories of our hotel in the future. Sincerely Carl Taranto General Manager

Whilst Crystalbrook’s exterior and interior upgrade of the old council offices is to be applauded and welcomed to the City of Newcastle, unfortunately our first taste of Romberg’s rooftop bar was very disappointing.
We had prebooked a table from 5.30pm-7pm and arrived on time. As about 6-7 people crowded into our lift at the last minute to go to the 9th floor, there are no Covid safety number notices in the lifts, we had to wait for them to QR in and be attended to as they barged into the bar ahead of us. We were sat down at our prebooked table and our order for three cocktails and a grazing plate taken fairly quickly. The grazing plate arrived $35 with 5-6 crackers, the two smallest wedges of cheese I have ever seen, approximately the size of a preschooler snack, a teaspoon of feta and some condiments and cold meats. A very poor offering for this price. I had only a few days before enjoyed a cheese plate for the same price at a 5* star hotel in Sydney cbd which was very generous in portions compared to this.
After 45 minutes of sitting without our drinks, $22 per cocktail, not even water and many staff passing our table and never noticing we did not have drinks also one wrong order brought to our table, we enquired as to where our drinks were and were told they were on the way. After another five minutes or so I advised we were possibly about to walk out when the drinks arrived in lovely glassware but miniscule in size and completely lacking any flavour. We were offered another graze plate for free and advised our drinks and food order would be voided which was appreciated. On leaving I approached the manager to check the bill who advised the bill was ok but did not apologise in any way.
My pre birthday drinks with our son was extremely disappointing and would make us extremely reluctant to return until major improvements in quality and service are addressed.

We too applaud the team who assisted us with creating such a wonderful hotel and are very proud of our achievements. We are regretful to hear about the service you encountered during your dining experience at Romberg's. This certainly isn't the service we are aspiring to provide. I'm glad we only stayed one night, and with a heavy discount. I've been fortunate enough to stay in a few 5 star hotels around the world, and I've stayed in much nicer 4 star accommodation than I would rate this. I rarely give bad reviews but I was very disappointed with a few things. The first and worst were the sheets. The bed was comfortable enough, but when we got back from dinner late, and exhaustedly rolled in to bed, the sheets were so starchy, stiff and scratchy, the worst sheets I've ever experienced. My husband fell asleep on top of the bedspread and it was very late, and so I did not want the rigmarole of requesting new ones and having a bed remade at 1am (with the risk of the sheets being the same anyway) so I put my jacket and pants back on and slept in those to have as little contact as possible. Not really a memorable 5 star experience. The air conditioning in the room made clicking/adjusting sounds about every 15 minutes as well all through the night, and the city lights just outside shone through the large gap at the top of the "block out" curtains which made it one of the worst night's sleep I've had in a while.

We were on the first floor so the view was simply the back of the pub behind the building. There is limited parking available so we had to park and walk about 10 minutes to a partner parking lot that cost $15/night. The room was nicely decorated to suit the round building but it was small, and the design really made it feel small, with narrow gaps between the bed and the walls.

On check in we had asked about a reservation at the bar the following night and was told that it was a "show up and see how you go" arrangement. However, when I checked online I was able to book a spot easily on the website. We also enjoyed the restaurant, which had great service and lovely food. However, I had booked the table 8 weeks in advance, requesting a table by the window, and we were still several tables back.

The city location is excellent, very central and close to Darby Street for cafes and restaurants and the Civic Theatre. Their eco focus was well executed also. I wish I had more positive things to say but I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Absolutely fabulous. We stayed in the King Park room with great views over the park and Ocean. The staff were most welcoming at all times. The location was perfect next to all the cafes and foreshore. The room was spotless and beautifully decorated. The colour sceme matched the Newcastle vibe. The bed was so comfortable, layout of bathroom very quirky and the products for showering and hand washing were excellent. The products were in self dispensers rather than individual small bottles. The products not only smelt nice they didnt irritate our skin.
We didnt have access to the bars and rooftop restaurant which was a shame but thats COVID. Although you could order room service if you wanted.
