I paid to upgrade to a balcony room but the view of other buildings and small gap to the beach isn’t great from room 327. I’d like to see it from the 4th or 5th floor. It was straight across from a car park and smoking area so had to keep the curtains mostly drawn for privacy.
There was no minibar price list and some stains on the curtains. TV remote batteries were flat when I first tried to use it but there were no problems obtaining replacements from reception.
Bathroom clean and well laid out (toilet and door placement a bit weird though) but the shower water pressure was very low. Possibly due to a water saving shower head but I’ve had better ones with better flow.
The room was very noisy. External traffic was audible with the balcony door locked and I could hear people in rooms above as well as to the side most of the time.
The small restaurant was good for dinner. All gourmet portions for entree and main while the desert was relatively huge and while tasty I couldn’t finish it. I didn’t try the buffet breakfast based on other reviews stating a small range and long waits for hot food to be replenished.
I would consider returning because the staff and parking facilities were great. I’d want to be on a higher floor to have a better view though.

Stayed for 3 nights after Christmas. Staff were lovely, checked in the day before and they called to confirm bedding arrangements and rooms, so we arrived knowing there would be no issues. Keys were ready on arrival.
Beds were very comfortable and buffet breakfast was okay, however dinner at the restaurant was a standout.
The hotel is perfectly located for a relaxing beach holiday, walk outside and across the road and you’re on the sand.
Due to public holidays we didn’t explore the city (most places closed) but it was an easy drive to local Westfield for restaurants, shops and cinema.
We would’ve happily stayed much longer and will definitely return.

We booked the Novotel with friends to celebrate birthdays of 2 members. From the moment we arrived we were greated with a friendly smile and courtesy. We received an upgrade to a King room with a sea view and large balcony, along with a birthday greeting and a bottle of bubbly in each room which was very much appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed. Meals in the Dining Room were of a high quality and very competitively priced. All the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and a credit to the hotel. We would certainly recommend this hotel and stay there again.

Having stayed at the hotel a number times over the last four years, it's been so disappointing to watch it decline. Two stays in a row I've left the restaurant having waited to be served and watching others come in after me have their orders taken first. The menu has changed and not for the better. The rooms are incomplete; they lack documentation such as breakfast menus or mini-bar lists. The kettle still had liquid in it. Little things adding up. A key criteria when I book accommodation is an on-site restaurant so now that twice I've had to go elsewhere for a meal, I won't be bothered staying there again.

Spent one night here on our way further north and it was a lovely rest stop. The room was clean with a huge bathroom and comfortable bed. Shower had good water pressure too. Parking was additional $25 which we were happy to pay, it's located in a secure underground parking lot. The staff were friendly and care has been taken to implement covid safe practices such as masks and plastic shields - reassuring to see.
It's located close to a few nice food and bar spots (although book ahead as a lot of places seem to be shut due to the pandemic) and it was close to stroll down to beach or wharf. I'd stay again if passing through Newcastle.

Our experience of the Novotel Newcastle was disappointing and not something expected from Accor. We've stayed in Sofitels, Novotels, Ibis and even Formula 1 rooms in various countries and we had to check whether the Novotel brand had been downgraded from its advertised 4/4.5 star rating.

As mentioned in other reviews the hotel is "tired". The entrance looked like we were entering into a child care facility, there was never more than one person at reception and on arrival we left to get dinner as the wait was simply to long. The same thing happened on check out and in the end we just left the keys on the counter and walked out.

We booked the Superior room with harbour view - which is advertised as "offers floor-to-ceiling windows looking out towards Nobby’s Headland and Newcastle’s harbour in the distance". Bring your binoculars to see the harbour...as for Nobbys Head ...hmmmm .

The room was tired with mould and dirt on the curtains, in the bathroom, the bathroom ventilation didn't work and this obviously had been a longer problem due to the aforementioned mould (lots of little flies also living in the bathroom) , a poorly patched ceiling, most metal fittings had rust, dust in many places, etc.

We had paid $25/pp per day extra for a buffet breakfast as mentioned on the website but this is not the case. When we went for breakfast the first morning were told that the buffet breakfast hadn't been available for a "long time" and that only 2 items can be selected from the a la carte menu. This could have been explained on checking in the night before especially since there was a glitch with the booking and the number of breakfasts booked had doubled.

In some cases I really felt like we were being taken advantage of. The room was $350/night and it wasn’t’ even a weekend! Parking was $25/day extra ...outside you can get parking for $2 an hour during the day and free at night. Turning on the TV it seems there were a lot of movies available but at a (gulp) $34 extra.

I have to say the bed and linen was super comfy. Hurray something on par with what would be expected from the Novotel!

Have a look at the photos and screenshots.

Booked for THREE people and thought I'd get a better hotel thus payed a bit more than other comparable hotels. When we arrived in the room there were only TWO single beds. When I spoke to the man at reception he told be that I needed to pay and extra $45 a night for an extra fold out bed. They refused to give us an extra fold out bed without paying more. I escalated to his manager and he told me that his manager had decided the same. How ridiculous when you book a room for three people to have only two single beds. Out of principle we refused to pay for the extra bed so it was very uncomfortable to sleep. The hotel is basic, more like a motel... additionally the toilet was dirty with urine splatter, the curtains were broken, the blanket had crusty disgusting stains, the matrass protector covered in stains... and this receptionist attitude was quite frankly rude... I will avoid this hotel group from now on. I paid less to stay at the very luxurious 5star Langham hotel in Melbourne the week after which is glamorous and they do everything to satisfy their customers. Avoid Novotel.

Booked into the Novotel and requested a room with a good view of the harbour and we were given room 513 on the top floor with probably the best views from the hotel. The room had a king bed, chaise lounge, desk and chair, fridge and coffee/ tea / biscuits etc. The ensuite was large with a walk-in shower. In the cupboards there were dressing robes and slippers plus plenty of hanging space. The compendium has to be scanned rather than a book as is the usual in a room, bit of a trick to find at first. The mini bar had been removed but drinks can be arranged through the front desk. There is a bistro that serves breakfast and dinner but I’m not sure about lunch as we ate elsewhere for lunch. We weren’t impressed with the bistro for breakfast on two occasions due to lack of staff and service, see comments on trip advisor.

The hotel is in a good location close to the beach and transportation hub for light rail. We will certainly stay here again on our next trip to Newcastle.

You certainly pay for the location not the accommodation! For a 4.5 ⭐️ Hotel with rates north of $300 P/N it fell way short of our expectations more inline with the 3.5⭐️ Ibis down the road. Receipt was efficient and friendly but as soon as we entered the lift it all went down hill the lift walls & doors were putrid and cracked tiles on exit. The room was OK we upgraded to a harbour view room but the windows were cover in salt so that was a waste. The carpet to me looked grotty or bad choice of colour? The safe had been smashed open, destroyed and unusable but the bathroom was OK though! But minibar was empty. We booked the inclusive breakfast deal but when we were seated we given a limited option on extra’s food was tasty but we declined the self serve coffee and left for the cafe next door as the AC vents were dripping condensation on us from slimy mouldy vents in the ceiling. Sad really whether it’s a result of the COVID downturn or just bad maintenance it poorly reflected its 4.5⭐️ Rating and although it is beachside you wouldn’t know from inside as view are restricted to a few overpriced rooms and limited vista’s

We stayed over the Easter break. I am a Silver Accor Member and having not stayed at Novotel Newcastle for 5 years was very disappointed what i came back to.

We arrived on Easter Sunday, The lift is dirty (the stainless steel doors need a good clean) the corridors need a good carpet wash and vacume and our family room looked as though it had not had no maintenance in the last 5 years. The coverings on the lounge in our room were stained. Mini bars are not stocked/no room service menu/no compendium with Hotel and area information/no note pad/no pen.

The hotel is not tired it is "exhausted". We paid over A$500 each night, which was not value for money. The spa was dirty in the fitness area and the steam room was not working. We had breakfast each morning in the Restaurant and the ceiling is covered in mould.

The lobby carpet is also stained as is some of the furniture.

Perhaps there is not enough competition in Newcastle for Novotel to improve their product.

I do know i will not be returning nor recommending to friends.
