How did I miss this Novotel before? I’ve spent stays at many Novotels over the years and Newcastle Beach is to the brand’s customary high standard. Because of it’s position close to the beach ‘smart, casual’ is the order of the day. I was welcomed by friendly reception staff and later enjoyed a beautifully presented meal at the Bistro. There is a large basement carpark and the room was well-equipped and presented to the high Novotel standard. It was a real pleasure to stay here.

A near perfect stay right on the beach & staff fabulously attentive. Despite some concerns with air-conditioning in the room, staff were able to facilitate a room change. Caleb was a standout. Professional, courteous, accomodating and warm. An asset to the team.

We stayed here for a couple of nights and were treated very well from the moment we arrived. Our room was comfortable throughout our stay despite very inclement weather. The hotel is in a great location to explore Newcastle with a short walk to the beach

We are Accor members and always stay at Novotel hotels, so we picked this as a 1 night stop over on the way to Queensland. It was our first time visiting Newcastle. We had requested a sea view but were told on check in that no family rooms have a sea view, which was fine but a little disappointing. The room was very large and spacious and this impressed us and had a double bed and 2 single beds. It had a table with 4 chairs and a really large spacious bathroom. We then realised that the room was a wheelchair access room hence the large space to accomodate wheelchair access. We would have preferred this be kept for someone who really needs the wheelchair access. The room was very tired, walls were marked, power point was covered with black tape, the bedside table drawers were all marked. You could not see out of the windows because of the salt scum as well. There was massive carpet stains in red and I joked with the kids that someone was shot on the floor, that’s how big the stains were. The breakfast was included and was a buffet, we got there at 0630 when it opened and unfortunately the pancake machine was not working until we finished breakfast as the chef had not filled it. Emma making the coffee was lovely and friendly and the coffee was nice, the selection of foods was very basic and they were not fully set up and forgot to put out a few things like butter and bowls. It was just the little things that was disappointing, like the hand sanitiser in the lobby next to the elevator was empty, there were no cups for the water dispenser in the lobby, the lobby staff weee not the friendliest. Unfortunately we will not be returning to this hotel should we return to Newcastle.

A convenient spot, good amenities, local food and coffee nearby, beach close, light rail and short walk away. Beach views are limited. Windows could do with double glazing, a concrete courtyard and tall buildings surround hotel so very echo and noisy when there are people drinking at the outdoor bar downstairs at reception, you can hear conversation and noise very loudly as it echos off the concrete walls into your room. Rooms not well cleaned, cosmetic clean only, buildup of crud and fluff along walls on edge of carpet, but not overly bad and was tolerable, but needs a spring clean. I had two pillows that were rank and stank the room, hit me when I entered the room, took a while to find the source. I am sure they were mouldy and the sweat and body odour could be smelt from them, no way the cleaner couldn’t have noticed. Once I got rid of them (there were two more in cupboard) my room was relatively nice, clean linen etc as should be. Doors opened and balcony got great fresh sea breeze so a very nice room with some care to clean it to a higher standard, and the 3 small windows facing the concrete courtyard double glazed, would be 5 stars.

It’s rated – 4/5 star as a hotel. It cost $259 to stay one night. Based on the cleanliness of the room on the second floor beside a the kitchen that caters for conference rooms this was not worth it. I would expect better from being an Accor member who uses the brand regularly.
My request for a high floor was not considered.

You certainly pay for the location not the accommodation! For a 4.5 ⭐️ Hotel with rates north of $300 P/N it fell way short of our expectations more inline with the 3.5⭐️ Ibis down the road. Receipt was efficient and friendly but as soon as we entered the lift it all went down hill the lift walls & doors were putrid and cracked tiles on exit. The room was OK we upgraded to a harbour view room but the windows were cover in salt so that was a waste. The carpet to me looked grotty or bad choice of colour? The safe had been smashed open, destroyed and unusable but the bathroom was OK though! But minibar was empty. We booked the inclusive breakfast deal but when we were seated we given a limited option on extra’s food was tasty but we declined the self serve coffee and left for the cafe next door as the AC vents were dripping condensation on us from slimy mouldy vents in the ceiling. Sad really whether it’s a result of the COVID downturn or just bad maintenance it poorly reflected its 4.5⭐️ Rating and although it is beachside you wouldn’t know from inside as view are restricted to a few overpriced rooms and limited vista’s

It actually sickens me to think about how much money I paid to stay in this hotel (close to $3k for 6 nights) and what I got for that money...
Run down hotel, issue with our room which we were told was fixed (it wasn't), told we would be called (we weren't) and ultimately we were forced to change rooms to go to the cheaper room which they couldn’t refund the difference… wifi too slow to use and constantly dropping out, front desk almost always unattended, having to ask for toilet paper because the cleaners didn't put any in the bathroom, room keys stopped working one day for no reason and the list goes on.
I understand the above are all first world problems, but for what this hotel charges I feel like I have been robbed - will never ever return

Our experience of the Novotel Newcastle was disappointing and not something expected from Accor. We've stayed in Sofitels, Novotels, Ibis and even Formula 1 rooms in various countries and we had to check whether the Novotel brand had been downgraded from its advertised 4/4.5 star rating.
As mentioned in other reviews the hotel is "tired". The entrance looked like we were entering into a child care facility, there was never more than one person at reception and on arrival we left to get dinner as the wait was simply to long. The same thing happened on check out and in the end we just left the keys on the counter and walked out.
We booked the Superior room with harbour view - which is advertised as "offers floor-to-ceiling windows looking out towards Nobby’s Headland and Newcastle’s harbour in the distance". Bring your binoculars to see the harbour...as for Nobbys Head ...hmmmm .
The room was tired with mould and dirt on the curtains, in the bathroom, the bathroom ventilation didn't work and this obviously had been a longer problem due to the aforementioned mould (lots of little flies also living in the bathroom) , a poorly patched ceiling, most metal fittings had rust, dust in many places, etc.
We had paid $25/pp per day extra for a buffet breakfast as mentioned on the website but this is not the case. When we went for breakfast the first morning were told that the buffet breakfast hadn't been available for a "long time" and that only 2 items can be selected from the a la carte menu. This could have been explained on checking in the night before especially since there was a glitch with the booking and the number of breakfasts booked had doubled.
In some cases I really felt like we were being taken advantage of. The room was $350/night and it wasn’t’ even a weekend! Parking was $25/day extra ...outside you can get parking for $2 an hour during the day and free at night. Turning on the TV it seems there were a lot of movies available but at a (gulp) $34 extra.
I have to say the bed and linen was super comfy. Hurray something on par with what would be expected from the Novotel!
Have a look at the photos and screenshots.

We booked the Novotel with friends to celebrate birthdays of 2 members. From the moment we arrived we were greated with a friendly smile and courtesy. We received an upgrade to a King room with a sea view and large balcony, along with a birthday greeting and a bottle of bubbly in each room which was very much appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed. Meals in the Dining Room were of a high quality and very competitively priced. All the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and a credit to the hotel. We would certainly recommend this hotel and stay there again.
