This place is full of art deco charm and old world comfort. Perfectly located in the centre of the city and walking distance to many bars and restaurants. Plenty of on street parking and also the option of paid locked parking close by. While there might not be a restaurant anymore the continental breakfast was more than suitable. There was even barista coffee which was excellent. I loved the bedroom with its charming fireplace and especially the two tub chairs. So often hotels don’t provide any seating in a room - only a hard straight backed desk chair or the bed. Not here…two comfortable tub chairs to relax in. The shower, which not modern was hot and the pressure was fabulous. The inclusion of a makeup removing face cloth, in a sensible charcoal grey colour was sensational. So often I have to travel with my own dark face cloth to avoid leaving makeup marks on pristine white towels and linens. I loved this addition! The staff were friendly, provided lots of information. I would stay here again.

This nice old hotel is well worth a visit. We recently stayed two nights and would certainly return. It offers an elegance not seen in more modern accommodation. Our room was on the1st floor so one has to navigate larger staircases but it is worth it. Staff are attentive and the room spacious with high ceilings and a very good bathroom with excellent shower. The bed and pillows were very comfortable ensuring a good sleep. It is only metres from the main central area of Broken Hill, whilst not having dedicated parking there is plenty of street parking next to the hotel. On a previous visit to Broken Hill we had dined here in the beautiful old restaurant but nowadays that is closed we believe as chefs cannot be recruited in regional areas since Covid – and we certainly saw proof of that in other towns. A continental breakfast is offered and worked well. There are some good restaurants a short walk down the main street so we were not inconvenienced. All in all, the Royal Exchange is a great hotel right in the heart of this fantastic town.

From the moment we entered the Royal Exchange Hotel we felt we had stepped back in time into an era that focused on comfort and old world charm. The foyer, dining room and lounge were beautifully decorated with large, sink into, lounges and chairs. Our bedroom was spacious with very comfy bed and access onto the large, covered verandah. The ensuite was clean and roomy with great water pressure. We didn't use them but fluffy robes were available which was a lovely touch.
The continental breakfast for a small fee was a great start to the day.
The Hotel is very centrally located, close to pubs and cafes.
John and his team were welcoming, friendly and very helpful and John makes a mean cup of coffee!
Would definitely stay at the Royal Exchange Hotel again...loved it.

We would stay here again . It’s central and quiet and although maybe a little tired it is still very charming with its gorgeous Art Deco features . Our room was very clean and our bed was very comfortable . The shower is over the bath . The continental breakfast was actually much better than the way it was described and a perfect start to the day .There are two cafes across the road if you want the bustling vibe but we were very happy with our hotel breakfast in the lovely quiet dining room . Staff are helpful and obliging and I think cooked breakfast is available if you ask .

In August 2020 we stayed three nights at the Royal Exchange in a Deluxe Room. The room was relatively spacious however next time I would ask for a room with access to the balcony. The king bed was very comfortable and the split system heating was really good. The bathroom was not spacious and the shower was over the bath (which I don't recommend when you have good balance). I would prefer a bathroom with a separate shower and I am not sure if they have that option. I think when you renovate a hotel, showers are a better option than a bath. I will know better next time as overall the hotel was lovely. We dined in the restaurant on Saturday night and the meal was very good, expensive for what we ordered, but very nice food. Good wine list and again on the expensive side.

The location of the hotel is perfect as it is in walking distance to all the main street activities.

Positives - The pub has that old and grand feel about it. It is an interesting building. Note that it is basically accommodation only. No meals or operating bar is happening. Excellent location. All rooms are upstairs; no lift in service. Being old and grand can be visually pleasing but in reality the room was a little small and nowhere near as comfortable and spacious as a decent motel. Front desk staff were very helpful

Negatives - I use a walking stick. To get in the bath/shower I had to be part contortionist as I "hurdled" the toilet bowl to step into the bath. I felt like an accident waiting to happen. The balcony was a significant selling point but in reality the balcony is a rather windy, barren and uninviting space. The TV is an older KOGAN standard TV. No Smart TV capability. At approx $230 per night I would hope for a little better.

A hotel with too much potential but little in the way of delivery, feels like it's all about cost cutting.

Staff pleasant enough, but they wont call a cab for you.

Rooms pleasant but paper thin walls.

Wrap around balcony is a highlight.

WIFI was completely useless, had one bar at best, and connection kept dropping out.

The dining room is grand but sits idle until breakfast, and the front doors were closed by 6pm so the all round feel was a little gloomy.

Open the bar, add a restaurant, spice it up a bit, return it to a bit of it's old grandness and you'd get a 4.5, plus more guests.

We loved this place located in the heart of Broken Hill. Someone has spent a fortune doing this place up, and not in some cheap tizzy style but real quality fixtures and fittings. We had three rooms two of which had double doors leading to an enormous deck area which curved around the whole hotel so that you could walk around and see views in all directions.
We ate one night and there was a fantastic musician who played and sang mostly 80s music. We danced, drank and ate and really enjoyed ourselves. We asked the waiter to take a drink over to the musician but she quietly told us he was the owner!
Fantastic in every aspect.

This is a beautiful old hotel with many gracious architectural features. You really feel like you've arrived somewhere when you get there. The rooms are certainly comfortable and reasonably recently refurbished. However what they called a deluxe room was really only standard and the balcony access was all very good but you need to be Hercules to actually open the door. Also, take advantage of the central location to eat elswhere in the main street. We had one breakfast there and it was so bad we didn't bother with an evening meal. There are plenty of other options nearby. Overall, in a very busy time for travellers, we were very happy with it.

This is all about atmosphere - beautifully restored art deco hotel. That means restored in a true sense not a modern reinterpretation so it is like stepping back in time. Rooms were very comfortable, reception friendly and its a good location in the heart of Broken Hill. Style has its downsides - no lift and a very long staircase to carry bags up, no parking - so you are on the street which is limited and has time restrictions during the day, and my room had a very deep bathtub / shower which could be problematic if you had mobility issues. There is a very grand dining room which is only used for breakfast which is a shame and which didn't look particularly inviting so went to a nearby cafe. Overall an interesting experience and good value for money.
