We were phoned twice on our trip up to the motel. With the first phone call, we advised that our arrival time was going to be a bit later than previously advised with the online confirmation (6.30 instead of the previously entered 5-6pm). Less than hour later, we received another phone call about our arrival. We said we were going to be arriving at the new time as previously informed. This arrival time was well before the 8pm reception closing time given in the online confirmation, with the website showing a closing time of 9pm. The online confirmation was only to confirm dates and an estimated arrival time. It didn't ask for information on the number of guests or type of room/bedding configuration. We made a booking for a family room for 2 nights, with a queen bed and 2 singles. This was not what we were given. A change of management was blamed for the mix-up. If all data doesn't transfer across, why not contact the client to confirm specifics. We couldn't change rooms as there was nothing available, and I was told my children could just top and tail in the sofa bed. The sofa bed wasn't made up, and only 2 towels were there for 4 people. We were offered a family room after a horrendous first night. But we had to totally pack up from our room back to our vehicle as no storage options were offered. We were told that a key would be left under the door mat, as reception would be closed 12-2pm. No key under the mat at 1.45pm, and a note on the reception door to say closed until 2.30pm. They'd forgotten what they said they'd do. At least we were still able to go into the new room, which had the right amount of beds and towels. This would have to be the worst experience I have ever had in a motel. I have helped manage motels, and the level of organisation here was terrible.

We stayed in a two bedroom cottage for a few nights in December 2020. There was plenty of space. The place is showing some signs of wear and tear (e.g. the carpet is worn with some stains, and a number of the light and electrical switches seem to be broken or have the switch itself pushed in). However, it is generally neat and comfortable, and all the appliances work. The bathroom seems to have been done up more recently and was in good condition. There is no on site restaurant, but there are a large number of restaurants just few short blocks (and an easy walk) away in the middle of town. Wifi is provided, and our cottage had its own carport for parking (which was an unexpected bonus). The place is easy to find on the highway.

I got bitten all over my body by bed bugs, I went to the doctor and he said I had a pretty bad case. This is the only hotel/ place I’ve stayed at in weeks so it must be from here. Now I have to figure out how to stop from taking them home. The lady was horrible to talk to and very defensive: I’m going to my grandfathers funeral tomorrow and now I have painful welts all over my body and I’m worried I’m going to take them to my mothers house who has just lost her father. This has been a truly been an ordeal and was not in any form elevated by the manager. She asked for a doctors certificate but I didn’t think to get one when I went as I was trying to get relief not thinking about getting proof. She can ring west Dubbo medical centre. I hope the pictures will satisfy her. It was a work Trip So I didn’t even pay for it so it wasn’t like I was trying to get a free night but she acted like I was trying to attack her. I just want them to get rid of the bed bugs. The fact that anyone payed for the ordeal I went through is hard to palette. I stay at places for work all the time, backpacked around Europe and I have never had such a horrific experience at a accomodation. DO BETTER

Response from lisa battersby, General Manager at Bathurst Heritage Motor Inn

Amy, As i said over the phone, we have investigated the room, treated the room, no evidence of anything at all. I have asked all other guests that have stayed, and they have advised of no issue. You will need to provide a confirmation of positive testing from your doctor. You were offered a refund, giving you the benefit of doubt, and your company declined, i also do not appreciate the fowl words you used in our phone call conversation. Lisa

Stayed here as I had a good deal through Booking.com. Upon arrival I asked for a ground floor room due to the equipment I had. They didn’t even try to change the room which was on the first floor. Furthermore, the room was the first facing the main road and it was noisy all night. The room was spacious however, with a desk which was good for my needs. The shower didn’t have a curtain so a fair amount of water went onto the tiles which I had to clean up (but shouldn’t have).

The room was spacious with a lounge and table and chairs if eating in. There is a kitchenette with microwave. The shower had great water pressure and the water was hot. It was a great stay. Reception was very easy and I find some of the recent reviews inconsistent with our experience. We walked to the RSL for dinner and had breakfast in town as the breakfast room was closed. Only issue was some traffic noise but you get that in all hotels on highways.
