All the rooms at this hotel have balconies that look out to the river and/or sea. Our room was comfortable and we were happy to stay here. The grassed area at the back of the hotel has a pool, children's playground and access to the riverside pathway. The grounds were clean and well kept. Mariners is a hotel, not a motel, so there's a certain amount of noise that flows up to your room from the outside seating area. It was raining while we were there so no one was in the grounds or what I would call the 'alfresco' area but there were a few noisy males sitting at tables undercover. This area is immediately outside the bar and the bistro. I imagine that on hot summer's night, the noise drifting up to your room could be quite off putting. At the bistro, we ordered a seafood platter for two for our dinner and it was really delicious and generously stacked. We went back next morning for a continental breakfast. They do offer cooked breakfast too but there was no cook that morning. Neither meal was included in the tariff but we didn't think the charges were exorbitant. My biggest criticism of this venue is the way you get to your room. Our particular room was upstairs in a wing that stretched out towards the river. We had to walk through the hotel, past the tables in the covered area then up a staircase which was totally exposed to the weather. It was only light rain when we arrived, not sure how people with luggage would cope on wet stairs, with a wet wooden handrail and teeming down rain. You'd probably have to wait until there was a break in the weather. I'm reasonably confident they would be making good money at this venue; not too much of a stretch to put a cover over the stairs. At least some of the rain would be kept out. That said, we had a comfortable stay and it was a pleasant enough introduction to Batemans Bay.

There was nothing wrong about what they offered, although the shower left a lot to be desired. The noise is what got us. Every time anyone in the block opened a tap, used the shower, flushed the toilet you heard it; it was amazingly loud. Then there was the garbage truck that appeared to take forever to empty all so many bins making such loud noise you could not sleep through it. I wouldn’t return here.

You don't appreciate how much you take the quality of Wifi for granted until you run into a situation where it is practically unusable. Otherwise this hotel is pretty good albeit a bit old. Its easy to find, the price is reasonable for the location, the rooms are clean and the staff friendly and helpful with free maps, etc.

Basically there are 3 floors. The level of the car park has a bar which I never saw open. There are stairs to reception on the first floor where there is also a bar and restaurant and rooms in a separate wing which we didn't enter but appears to be more recent. The older rooms, of which we booked the last as it turns out, are on the second floor and there is no lift. So bear this in mind if you have heavy bags.

When we complained about the wifi we were told NBN was working on some upgrade so there wasn't anything they could do. That may well be true, but the internet was unusable for all practical purposes, extremely slow, dropped connections, just basically stuffed. So you might ask before booking.

Recently I read a survey of what people consider most important when looking for accommodation for a vacation. The result is GOOD INTERNET. Before booking, all experienced travelers read the reviews right away to find out about the quality of wifi. When we chased the Aurora borealis near Utsjoki, in Lapland, they provided perfect Internet even in the middle of nowhere. After that, it’s easy to imagine what we felt when the hotel advertising “free wifi” had virtually no wifi at all. The hotel said the NBN was working on it, but that was no consolation for us. I can’t imagine being so determined to rent accommodation without the Internet. Even if the toilet is made of gold and caviar is added for breakfast. Anyway, it just reminds me that there was no breakfast at all. It only intensified the "enjoyment" of having to climb upstairs and into the farthest room there as well. Since I walk with a stick and have a hard time, it wasn’t an incidental circumstance for me. In fact, we got five!!! beds for the two of us ??? Just as it is not possible to saddle two horses with one backside, likewise cannot two people to wallow in five beds simultaneously.
What we have to write for their benefit is a very polite, willing staff, the snow-white crisp linen, and the nice clean bathroom. Anyway, the hotel seems to be past its prime, and despite the obvious renovations, it still leaves a lot to be desired.
Even though it is high, they should somehow also have to keep the stairwell window clean.
Now I stop blaming them longer since I managed to release my venom because of the spoiled holiday, and the mistakes are obviously not the fault of the staff but the management.

My teenage children and I recently stayed at Mariners on the Waterfront and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The room was clean, the beds firm, yet comfortable and it was peaceful at night even with plenty of other guests with children.

We enjoyed a room with the water view and a balcony- this was worth the slight increase in cost, my kids could literally lie in bed and see the water. I enjoyed the added benefit of being able to sit on the balcony and watch my teenage son swim in the pool below (after driving for 3 hours to get there I wasn't ready for a swim just yet), it was also handy to get our beach towels dry during the day in between swimming sessions.

We had the continental breakfast option; with fussy teenagers this was a blessing and good value for money.

The location was also easy for us to leave the car and simply walk along the boardwalk and explore the shops and other facilities close by.

The minor negative was the room only had one small towel for each of us, when I realised this the reception desk was closed and I didn't want to call the night staff- this could have been easily overcome if I had checked the towels earlier in the day.

The reception staff were very friendly, we will be using this option for all our family holidays in future and recommending it to our friends.

Stayed for one night on our way to Melbourne.
Thought we would support the towns which had been affected by the Bush Fires. We arrived at 7pm and given 2 rooms, which I assume were the only ones left as the sign said hotel full.
The rooms were very outdated (apart from the bathrooms) and grubby. They faced the rear of the hotel overlooking a tin roof and car park, rather poor compared to the photos on their website which show the rooms facing the waterfront and a tiny pool. Majority of the food items in the Mini Bar were well past their use by date, mentioned this to reception next morning, who showed disbelief. (Photo attached)
Went down to the bar/restaurant at 8.30 which was closing so walked out to find a restaurant. By 9pm, the only one open in the whole of town was the Indian/ Goanese restaurant Bassein), we were the only ones in there.
Went down for breakfast to find no one eating. Asked for the cooked breakfast as advertised and told that's only available at weekends, so had cereal and toast which was described as a continental breakfast 🤔
If ever I travel that way in future, I will drive straight through the town, regretfully.

Very overpriced and outdated. Room was very clean(except ceiling fan in bathroom which was filthy) so noisy. Looks like they tried to freshen the room with some paint but it's a poor job. Bed okay. Not a welcome reception on arrival.

View was the best part. We paid over $400 a night for the Deluxe Queen Room with Balcony and Sea View however there was not anything “delux” about the room. You can tell they have tried to do a cheap update of the room interior however it has been very poorly done. The bathroom was tiny and didn’t allow enough room to move comfortably around. No bath mats , hand towels or face washers supplied. Beds were comfortable but were on wheels and rolled away from you as you tried to sit on them. Exit door was extremely hard to open or close and posed a safety issues due to misaligned door frame. We ate out at the bistro and the food was nice and service was great.
Overall I felt this accommodation was over priced and the photos on their website do not give a true representation of the facilities or rooms

We arrived in the pouring rain and were told to come back in an hour or so. When we did go back we were told the room was up a steep flight of stairs. We are both in our 60's and not very fit. We also were staying for a couple of nights so we had extra luggage with us by the time we got to our room we wanted to collapse!
I had paid for a Standard Room. This standard room had air conditioning, electric kettle and flat-screen TV. The room consisted of 1 queen size bed, 1 single bed squashed in a small table on the right size of the bed, but no table on the left side of the bed. I had books, glasses, and a drinking glass that all had to be put on the floor. The 2nd night accommodation did not get any better. No hot water. I got half way down the stairs and ran into the owner on the landing. The owner apologised and said if we wanted a shower we could have one on the 2nd floor. I said a wash would do. When it came to going home we were told in the beginning a free continental breakfast . It was not free . I ended up ordering a cooked breakfast. It was good.
I will not be staying there again

An excellent budget hotel centrally located in Batemans Bay. The receptionist was very helpful and friendly, and allowed us to check in early which saved us a lot of time. Parking was great, and the self-server laundry helped us with clothes washing and drying after being at the beach for multiple days. The courtyard at the back is absolutely magnificent for outdoor dining, as is the walking path along the bay that the hotel is next to. The beds were comfortable, and we loved the ultra wide shower heads. We were able to open up the windows and cool down the room as needed as we do not like a/c so that was also a bonus. We will be coming here again in future for sure.
