Detailed Reviews
After a lot of travelling we were so pleased to have found The Paddlesteamer.
Right from when we phoned to book to when we checked out, Joanne was so friendly and helpful- a really lovely lady.
The generous sized unit had everything we needed- it was warm and comfortable with nice pillows and fluffy towels.
We also found it to be immaculately clean and everything worked really well..obviously effort has been put in to keep it well maintained.
Even though it was cold weather, our son couldn’t resist the lovely looking pool.
We were very impressed with the value for money and would recommend this place to anyone as a fantastic travellers sanctuary!

Loved our 3 night stay here. Close to main part of town, rooms were a good size with everything you would need. Curtains made the room very dark in morning which encouraged sleeping in, rooms quiet and nothing to much trouble for staff. Unfortunately restaurant not open due to co-vid but plenty of places nearby to eat in.

This is a terrific place to stay in Albury. There were other places we stayed in New South Wales which were double the price and were not nearly as good. The room we stayed in was refurbished, the towels were fluffy and white and the bed was comfortable. Seemed soundproof to me as I could hear no traffic noise or noise from rooms either side. We could even watch Netflix! The receptionist guy was welcoming, helpful and entertaining!
Thanks for a great stay.

1. I get its easter long weekend
2. I understand that accomodation places were going to be fully booked, hence why i pre booked.
3 days prior my wife was looking for accomodation and found this place, however there was no vacancy left on multiple third party booking sites.
So my wife called and spoke to 'Nick' who confirmed the websites had a glitch and that there were a number of rooms available. So my wife booked a king room and stated we have the NSW accomodation vouchers.
He stated that was fine, we could use them and he would charge my wifes card the remainder and that the room was booked for the 14th.
So Thursday afternoon we drive from Sydney 5hrs and get to Albury ay 7.40pm. We pull into the motel and there are a number of cars idiling in the driveway. My wife got out and approached the foyer where she spoke with Maryanne.
My wife was informed that," all our guest have checked in, we have no morr rooms". She also mentioned that they had over booked by four rooms as there is a delay when third party websites book as well as them doing direct bookings.
So after travelling 5hrs we had no where to stay. We rang around Albury and Wodonga with no vacancy anywhere.
I understand these things happen, however they could have checked their booking system and seen they had already over booked earlier that day. Which meant they could have contacted customers affected by the overbooking. Instead they waited until families went to check in. We were lucky we were only a couple and i drive for living and travelled another 2hrs 40mins to source accomodation in Wallan.
Had they contacted us earlier we would have made alternative arrangements. So as far as excuses go there is no none.
You cannot use, "oh its easter, ohhh itd covid you know". Also i understand that businesses were affected during covid restrictions etc and peolpe are starting to get out and about again but this has just made a negative impact on me and my wife travelling around NSW until people learn to get there s@#t together, you have had two and a half years. 🤔🙄. Enough said.

It’s pretty ordinary. It’s cheap so we didn’t expect much. But, we would have liked: soap and shampoo in the room, the refrigerator to be cleaned of recent guests’ food, covers on the doonas, bedside lamps that worked. The bathroom was bathroom clean if you didn’t look up.
There have to be better places to stay in Albury. We will not return.

I will start out by saying that I stayed here a few months ago, as a change to our regular large hotel, in response to the government request to support small businesses. We travel to Melbourne from Sydney a few times a year and stop in Albury occasionally to break up the trip if I’ve had to work that day, as was the case on this day (Easter Thursday). At the time, I was very happy with the room, as it was also obvious they’d used the time over the hardest part of Covid to do renovations, so the rooms were very new and well appointed with plenty of room, so I’m being fair not to just jump into this next bit.
I’m very much one to plan ahead. Something I’ve done for many years on our overseas and local trips. So planning a stopover in Albury over Easter. I knew I’d have to book early, which I did, 2 months before time using their own booking system, as I am not one to use third party websites unless there is no other option available. I also subsequently contacted them in person (thanks Nic….not) to advise that we would be arriving late and wanted to organise for that, which we subsequently did. I then also contacted them just a few days before to ask if they accepted the Stay NSW vouchers, which they did and requested I email it to them, which I did. So as far as I know, we’re all good, and were looking forward to a nice morning on Albury after our stay.
We arrived a little earlier than expected to find the receptionist contending with a disgruntled customer. She asked if she could help me while the other gentleman was using their phone and computer, and I told her I was checking in and gave my name, she then disappeared briefly out the back only to return to announce we are overbooked, sorry.
The gentleman on the phone looked up at me and said he’d found another place (amazingly) if I wanted a room. I declined as it was 3 times the price, and I would never pay that much to stay in Albury, but thanked him nonetheless.
Now I have stayed in a vast number of hotels both overseas and in Australia, and my daughter also works in the hotel industry, and I can tell you emphatically, that the etiquette in this situation, which has happened to me before, is that the hotel finds you alternative accommodation and pays the difference.
But not here!
Unbelievably, that was it! Bad luck, see you later! How can a place like this just do that, terribly unprofessional.
Left with no other choice after already driving 5 1/2hrs, I instead decided I’m just going to have to continue driving another 4 1/2 hrs to Geelong, and hope I can manage to stay awake and alive.
But it doesn’t even end there! On arriving at our final destination, I’d discovered that they had redeemed my Government voucher! I immediately emailed them that I will be reporting that. I then had a very restless sleep as I was so furious. But there’s more! When I finally awoke, I had a notification from my bank. I had also been charged for the room! This prompted a further email.
I eventually received a response saying that everything will be refunded, as it should, but no further apology or offer of any type of compensation.
This was an inexcusable occurrence, totally unacceptable customer service, and Albury Paddlesteamer, you will not being seeing myself, or any of my acquaintances that I have told this story to if they happen to travel that way in the future.
Obviously, not that you care.

Nice clean motel. Was quite noisy from 3.30 am onwards. Drunken fools followed by early leavers. Obviously no fault of the motel.
Good location close to the river. Reasonable priced and was extremely busy on the Saturday night that we stayed. The motel has upstairs rooms that would require carrying luggage up stairs.

What a pleasant surprise, our standard queen room was very large. Massive long bench to put your suitcases and bags. Very well equipped kitchenette, and nice compact bathroom. This property would be great as a base to do some of the bike tracks around Albury. There would be ample room to bring your bikes into the room for overnight but it also has an awesome large car park away from street view. Only a few minutes to the town centre by car. We will stay here again.

We had a large queen room, which is always very welcome as plenty of room for our luggage without it being in the way. The room and bathroom were very clean and the room was comfortable. We had a table and a bench for all the tech. Plenty of powerpoints too, something many hotels lack.
Staff very busy and the hotel was fully booked but were friendly and helpful.

The rooms are nice and warm. The bed was very much to my liking and all staff were happy to share a yarn about local matters ..
Only thing I’d suggest is to reopen the attached restaurant ! I’d love to spend breakfast, lunch and dinner in what looks like it would be a really nice place to get a feed !
Well recommended ... thanks for taking care of us all from Sydney ...

Thank you for your rating and review Robert S! We're so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and we always enjoy a good yarn with guests! We look forward to opening the restaurant again, however unfortunately it just hasn't been viable during the pandemic. Instead, we're working together with many wonderful local restaurants to provide room service for our guests. We thoroughly enjoyed having you stay with us on your trip from Sydney Robert. We hope to see you in Albury again!
