Nice location across from the Albury train station. A pub was at the end of the block that had meals available. Breakfast was a continental selection of cereal and bead (delivered the night before). We booked the room through Agoda for $83, therefore we were not expecting much. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the room. Down side was that there is not enough car packing spaces. No parking available on the street outside the motel.

Can't understand the few negative reviews. Rooms are basic but very clean, beds are comfy, location is central yet relatively quiet, and the friendly proprietors even offer a complimentary basic breakfast. Surely the best value o'nite accommodation in town. Staying here for the second time and will be back

Staff were very helpful. The room was spotlessly clean. Microwave and tea making facilities were provided. Bed was very comfortable. Basic breakfast was offered for free. I enjoyed my stay. Will definitely book in again if I am in the area.

We had a brief over night stay in Albury for a family Reunion. 2 couples. The rooms were quite adequate. Clean, Tidy with comfortable beds and clean linen. We even got a free basic breakfast. I reckon it's the best value in Albury. By the way, take some time to visit the beautiful 1880s railway station nearby.

Booked 3 nights, first morning a friend came by to drop me off a phone charger as I forgot mine, he asked the owner where my room was, my visitor (55 yo) was here for less than 5 mins, ❌❌ as soon as he left the owner approached & asked me what business he had here and scolded me, saying visitors are not welcome and that's the hotel policy, she said my guest looked undesirable and if she seen anyone else here I would be be asked to leave or she would call the police 🤔 ❌❌ There's No signs or notes on booking info relating to a no visitor policy. 🤔 I had other friends from Melbourne going to drop in to catch up at some stage but I now felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome here I actually forfeited one night and booked another hotel so I could welcome my friends.😒 ❌ The hotel itself is old and very average, a bit shabby, could use some maintenance, small, only 12 rooms, cars park very close to room doors so you get woken up by closing car doors at all hours, room walls are thin, you can hear all noises including water and snoring etc from the next room, lucky I was at the end so only one room beside me but still was hard to get sleep 💤 situated on a crn close to main roads and intersection so lots of traffic noise as well. ❌ not close to shopping or food ❌ Room Reasonably clean but not spotless like other reviews state, large cobwebs in bathroom roof corner full of dead insects, high places thick with dust, rubbish under bed ECT, ❌ mosquitoes in room, I had to go buy insect spray as the mosquitoes breed in the plants (bromiliades) and water dishes that they keep full of water just out side the room entrance door and garden. ❌ Wifi very weak and slow ❌ Breakfast offered is pathetic , a small cereal box or a slice of toast ❌ If the manager was not such a sticky nose and more polite I would give this hotel 1.5 stars out of 5 rating, however my score now is 0 never before in over a hundred hotels Ive stayed in all over the be world have I come across an issue like this,. ❌ I was made to feel so very unwelcome and so uncomfortable that I left a night early. Im 60yo, quite and respectable & did nothing wrong to deserve this sort of treatment, ❌❌ I certainly would not under any circumstances recommend this hotel to anyone 👎👎👎 ☑️ Room reasonable clean ☑️ Close to train ☑️ The bed was clean but not so comfortable, room had fridge and microwave, furniture was not to old n dated ❗ Nothing much good to say about the place there are much better budget options in the area as I found out.

Response from Minaxiba Padhiar, Owner at Clifton Motel
Responded 16 Feb 2023
Hi Mr. Paul H Thank you for writing this "completely factual review", so let breakdown this points one at a time. Mr. Paul if you are going to write a review at least have the honesty and the decency that comes along with writing a review that being honesty which you obviously lack. 1. Your "friend" Mr. Paul did he discover the elixir to youth as he sure look a lot like a 25 yrs not 55 yrs as you stated. Secondly Paul do all your "friend" just go about knocking on every door they find when they are at a motel in the hope you will be in one of them. Now your "friend" Paul or as you call him in the review but a friend that don't know your name or isn't sure of the room number isn't someone, I would want to call a friend. This is obviously a security concern for the motel and the wellbeing, and the safety of our guests and the employees is paramount to us. Now when been asked by the manager if he was looking for someone his response was for 'room 22' which is troubling as we don't have a room 22 and the constance texting didn't help much as I think a phone call should have been sufficient. Now for the 5 minutes that he was with you as you stated that this friend was simply handing you a charger, now this interaction doesn't require 22 minutes and 42 seconds and generally don't happen behind being closed door, does it?. Now this is obviously just an interpretation but, in all honesty, Mr Paul i strongly doubt that your "friend" reason for visiting had simply nothing do with simply handing you a charger. 2. Now when asked about your "friend" your response was 'I will leave a bad review, if my other "friends" can't come" now at this point I was happy to give you a refund for the 2 full nights which you conveniently left out from the review and declined. Now as you mentioned in the review that nothing about the room was satisfactory to your standards and that you booked a room elsewhere so that your "friends" could visits. Now two questions come to my mind Mr. Paul - 1. Why go through all that trouble and finically of booking a different room elsewhere while staying at the Clifton for the full duration of your booking. 2. If you booked a room elsewhere for you and your "friends" and the room at Clifton wasn't satisfactory, why did you continue to stay in a room which wasn't up to your standards while also being offered a full 2-night refund which you decline. It doesn't really make any sense Mr. Paul do it? If will be preferable for you if you simply stated, the truth. Which simple was that all your hooded up, push bike carrying, phone texting "friends" wouldn't be able to visit you for "giving you a charger"?. And finally for the blur you may be experiencing while writing the revies you stayed the full duration of your booking not a day shorter as you stated in the review. 3. Thirdly for you other points you made I will simply let all the other reviews we received speak for themselves. And lastly two quick comments 1st the continental breakfast is server with cereal and two slices of bread with butter and spread which you would know as you your ordered both not just either or as you stated and for the location to the main street and shops from our location is around 1-2 minutes by walk if you find this time extremely tedious then i would make recommendation closer to the main streets and shops however nothing comes to mind. Regards Mina.

Initially I was attracted to the Clifton Motel due to it being located right next to the train station, as well as being one of the cheapest stays in town. But it managed to exceed my expectations. The room was clean, and the King sized bed was quite comfortable. The water was hot and the shower pressure was solid. There was a mini-fridge in the room, along with a microwave, toaster, and kettle. There was an AC but we didn't need it. We appreciated the small table with two chairs in the room, and had it been a bit warmer we might have used the seating just outside the room. A breakfast of toast and cereal was delivered to the room the night before which was a nice touch since we were up early. Our room was farthest away from the front, so the wifi could be a little temperamental inside but would reconnect if we just opened the door. I would have no problem staying here again should I find myself back in Albury.

A great central location which was easy to find. A friendly welcome makes you relax as soon as you check in. Room had all basic essentials , kettle, fridge, microwave, toaster, TV, Steam iron, free wi-fi etc. Although dated, it was clean and comfortable with fresh linen and towels. An added bonus was the limited choice of cereal or toast for breakfast which is delivered to your room the night before. Happy to use as a base for longer stay to explore Albury and surrounds.

This little gem is tucked away near the railway station and opposite Officeworks, a short work to a pub for a really nice dinner. The rooms were clean, bed comfy, decor is very retro but looks as though it is being gradually updated. Lots of lovely pot plants everywhere. Our room was tucked away in a corner, would lovely sitting outside when the weather is warmer.

You shouldn't expect too much when you book the cheapest available motel but the Clifton turned out to exceed all expectations. It's an older building, largely unrenovated, but it's clean and tidy and provides absolutely everything anyone could want or need. We gota cheerful welcome late at night and plenty or courteous assistance. The bed was comfortable and the complementary breakfast adequate. If you are on A budget or just need to sleep while passing through Albury don't waste your money elsewhere.
