The best place to start and finish The Old Ghost Road ride. All you could ask for - comfy bed, good food, hot shower, cold beer! Thanks to Cat and the team for making us so welcome. We'll be back again soon.

The kindness and hospitality shown by the lovely team here made it a perfect finish to the Old Ghost Road. The fact that the lodge was built by and owned by the visionary responsible for the OGR makes it even better. Would definitely come again.

Like many others, we stayed here after completing the Old Ghost Road by bike. After a cold beer, the outdoor shower overlooking the river was the next thing on the agenda....and it was sooo lovely! Food excellent, comfy sofas overlooking the bush and river, no sandflies either as screens in place. Definitely a place to visit again.

If you want to get away from it all in peacefull settings this is the place. Only 5 rooms available and no tv in your room. The Mokihinui river is the only noise apart from the usual bush sounds. Have a hearty breakfast if you are doing the Old Ghost road trip. If you are into fly fishing and have...

Stayed here for two nights whilst my husband rode the Old Ghost Road with a group of mates. The accommodation and staff are lovely and my husband said it was a very welcome sight after two soaking wet days riding the trail. From here you can walk in to the first hut and back as a day walk. The food...

Had a lovely stay at the Rough & Tumble Lodge after 5 fantastic days hiking the Old Ghost Road. The Lodge was very clean and comfortable and the staff (Cat and Darna) were delightful, down-to-earth, helpful and very hospitable Coaster Kiwis. Nice private environment with bush and river views. It was a pleasure to be there.

After three days mountain biking on the Old Ghost Road, it was the perfect book-end to our trip to stay at Rough and Tumble. The charm of the building (with it's totally screened off protection from sand flies), the friendliness of the capable staff, the free wifi, the well stocked bar and the comfy beds were all wonderful and welcome.
