We spent three nights at Kowhai Lane and really enjoyed it. Comfortable bed, hot shower, lovely views, use of a kitchen and 2 lounge areas. Iris and Peter were friendly and most accommodating, and Peter's tour of Ulva Island was excellent. Highly recommended.

Spend a few days here with Peter and Iris Tait as your hosts, and you won't want to leave. From the time Peter collected us from the ferry until when he dropped us back, they were there when we needed them and in the background when we wanted time to just soak in the atmosphere by ourselves. We had 2...

From the time you get off the ferry or plane, Peter and Iris will help you enjoy what Stewart Island has to offer. Kowhai Lane Lodge is comfortable, clean, and well-equipped. The view is superb. Make sure to book the Ulva Island tour. Peter has extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna. Far more than a nature walk! The Taits...

We had a lovely two days staying here and Peter & Iris made us very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. I'm sure that if they could have improved the weather, they would have done. The accommodation was excellent, everything we needed, comfy bed, great amenities and tastefully decorated. Such a lovely place and a lovely couple who are only...

We were 4 couples and took the entire upper level of Kowhai for 4 nights. There is more accommodation beneath, and a nicely kept garden. Wonderful warm welcome from Peter and Iris, who brews a cuppa and bikkies, whilst you get the briefing (Iris must be a virgo as she pays great attention to detail). Iris provides you with a...

When this Canadian decided to avoid winter and go south, he did not expect to be quite as far south as Stewart Island, New Zealand. But having discovered it on a map and, after some effort with Google, having found and spoken to Peter Tait, I decided Kowhai Lane would be the perfect place to spend 2 weeks and usher...

We were two couples who stayed here for three nights. Kowhai Lane is an immaculately clean house surrounded by gardens, with four ensuite bedrooms, a large kitchen, dining room, lounge and laundry, filled with all the comforts of home. While we were the only four people there at the time, there is lots of room to accommodate guests and a...

We stayed at the Kowhai Lane apartment for two nights. The place is very well equipped and set in a pretty garden with views over Half Moon Bay. There are many beautiful books and DVDs in the apartment to help you better understand this special place. Iris and Peter are wonderful hosts, very friendly and keen to share their extensive...

We really fell on our feet when we booked Kowhai Lane for our 3 nights on Stewart Island. The property consists of 4 bedrooms with en-suites along with a very large communal space of Dining Room, Kitchen and Lounge. We tend to like meeting and chatting with other people so we were a bit unfortunate as when we stayed there...

Stewart Island is magical, but staying at Kowhai Lane with its stunning views, extremely comfortable rooms and some of the best hosts I have known in Peter & Iris, made this one of my top trips ever. Their depth of knowedge of the Island and expert advice ensured that I maximised my time there. As a single traveller they took...
