On our four weeks journey through New Zealand we chose Sallywags for our 5 day stay in queenstown. The family like atmosphere with Evan the owner and the other international guests made us feel very comfortable. The small hostel is really nice, clean, has a good kitchen and also a fantastic view on the lake. It was the right place... More

At first I was very weary of Evan, the Hostel owner. After a night's stay though, I learned to love the man. Evan truly makes this hostel the experience that it is. It has a beautiful view and he will introduce you to everyone that is staying there. He really makes it feel like a family. He has many interesting... More

Very nice place to stay in Queenstown. 10 minutes walk to the busy center and maybe 10 steps to the balcony with the amazing view. Not a place for a one-day-hello-and-goodbye-stay. Don't be shy, ask Evan for a day trip or all activities in and around Queenstown. No wifi. (not easy but maybe good for some relaxing days - or... More

If you're looking for a clean bed and like to meet fellow travelers, look no further. The place has a very homely atmosphere and has a stunning view on the lakes and mountains. The host Evan introduced me to each guest and is an experienced traveler himself. During the day, Queenstown is a 10 minute walk down the hill and... More

I really had a lovely stay at Scallywags. I was traveling for 2 month and was happy to stay at a place for a longer term. The beds in the dorm rooms were so comfortable! Till now I had the best dreams there. It has also great kitchen facilities! Good knifes to serve a jummy meal. Bathrooms are really clean.... More

It's very nice place! You can feel like at home! When I came here Evan introduced to me everyone! It's like a big family. Rooms here are clean and big in comparison with other backpackers. Not so far from the city centre. It takes u about 10-12 min. And the biggest advantage is a beautiful view. You can drink a... More

This was a great little find. Everything in town was busy and we really did want to stay in town. We ended up here and loved it. It is about 10 minutes pleasure walk into town along the hillside, so not really that far. The views from this hostel are fantastic and the owner has lots of recommendations on what... More

Intentionally looked for smaller hostel in queenstown rather than the rather impersonal experience of a large bland hostel. More through luck than judgement found scallywags and within 2 hours decided to stay twice as long than I ever expected to in queenstown. Genuinely felt like I was part of a family away from home, the people who stayed there, but... More

I spent some of my most memorable, relaxing and special time in NZ at this place and wouldn't have had it without this hostel. First of all there were the people staying there and Evan, the owner, who made this a really nice expierence. Evan is a Queenstown local and has tons of knowledge about what to do, from the... More

At first I want to say thank you Evan for a really nice time in Queenstown. The Hostel is not like every other Hostel, it is not like a huge hostel where anybody is doing their own things. When you stay at “Scallywags” more than one night you will see what I mean. Ok, some people would say it’s looking... More
