The Oaks Shores Queenstown is a wonderful hotel currently going through a major renovation ... but do not let that put you off! My Premier Hotel room was one of the new renovated rooms and it was clean, quiet and comfortable with a beautiful view of Lake Whakatipu and the mountains. I walked to town every day by the Frankton Track (about 3.5km or 40 minutes) but it did not feel that long as the view was stunning. They run a shuttle service in the afternoons and evenings which is very convenient.
The staff were so friendly, helpful and amazing. As a female solo traveller, they made sure that I was safe with pick up and drop off with the shuttle and my room was too my liking. David the shuttle driver was excellent in making sure I got to where I was going safely.
I think the only things that could have made it a 5 star review would be having a microwave in the room (the toaster was helpful though!!), hot water in the shower in the early mornings - I do not think it kicked in until about 6am and I was up early most mornings - and having the shuttle run a few times in the mornings as well. Maybe also have a few "heat and eat" meals available if you did not feel like going into town for dinner. Also, the heated towel rail stopped working half way through my stay and it was unable to be fixed before I left.
All in all, a great stay in Queenstown and I would definitely stay here again.

Very lovely resort. We had never spent so much on accommodation bit we had limited options so we splurged. It was nearly $1000 per night for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment overlooking the lake. Absolutely stunning. Due to staff shortages the house keeping was really reduced and luxuries like having our beds made couldn't be done. We were on level 5 which gave us access to the car park on the same level which was great as we had tired legs from skiing and it was so nice just to cross a ramp. Unfortunately due to current renovations the car park is cut in half so we couldn't always access a park there and had to park outside. The beds and linen were extremely comfortable. The toiletries were lovely. The kitchen is good but very limited for cooking. Small fry pan and not so big saucepans. Small laundry with everything we needed. Heating was central plus a gas fire place. The TV was limited sky channels so lots of ads. Would have been nice to have maybe one streaming service. The view was absolutely amazing and made it worth it. The reception staff were lovely, particularly one lady who helped me book an amazing helicopter experience.

The reception staff are extremely lovely but the resort is currently understaffed (as is the rest of the Queenstown hospitality industry), which we can appreciate. Simple housekeeping jobs seemed to be a little too hard, such as general cleanliness (brown finger marks on the back of the bathroom door :/ - making up of beds on request, which was only once on a 6 night, 3 bedroom stay - replenishing of washing/dishwashing powder when requested). As mentioned, the hospo industry is very short staffed at the moment, but I think as a consumer, that should be reflected in the price for the room. Everyone is struggling at the moment, and after waiting 4 long years for a holiday, you expect some basic "hotel things" when you stay somewhere "nice". I would also like to note that the rooms look nothing like the pictures (on the website). Beds were comfy and the place was very warm and welcoming, just those few core things let us down a little bit!

The most awesome view from our room. We had room 902 and it was lovely, spacious, a fabulous balcony which we used a lot because of the amazing view. It was a bit musty initially, so perhaps just air the rooms out a bit more. But otherwise perfect! The staff are friendly and keep in mind there is a staff shortage everywhere at the moment. The restaurant and bar were not open because of that, but that did not bother us. There is a shuttle bus in the afternoons to take you into town and return. We found this really handy as we went in and had dinner each evening. The walk into town is approx 30 minutes.

Used this hotel as part of my honeymoon in New Zealand.
2 weeks prior to arriving I emailed the hotel asking if I could purchase Wine, champagne, strawberries or something romantic for the room. This email was ignored.
I booked this hotel knowing they had on-site parking and laundry facilities (because that's what they advertised on CapitalOne Travel.) Arriving at the hotel, none of these are an option due to their MAJOR construction. We had to park in a residential area, uphill, across a busy street and find a laundry mat inside the city......Hard to say I felt like I was staying at a resort when me and my wife were trying to run across a street, while being rained on, trying not to be hit by passing cars. I spoke to hotel staff about these problems, they didn't care.
I emailed the hotel to see if we could come to an agreement about these issues..... Shocker, that email was also ignored. The hotel room itself was fine, but I will never stay at another Oaks location due to lack of transparency, the sheer lack of customer service and professionalism at this hotel

Stayed in one of their Hotel Premier suites and it was awful. Lots of issues that means we won't return. Examples: 1. Our suite had an adjoining door to the suite next to it. The other occupants had a baby sleeping on the other side of the door and the nightly crying destroyed our sleep. We tried blocking the sound with pillows but to no avail. The door should be soundproof. 2. Parking was hopeless! They have a lot of work going on modernising the hotel with tradespeople everywhere, including the car parks. 3. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The bed had a mattress protector only on one side... 4. The wifi was almost non-existent meaning that nothing could be streamed, even youtube at low resolution. 5. The "smart TV" had no streaming capabilities either. 6. No milk or anything in the fridge. 7. There was a machine outside, close by, possibly an aircon compressor or something to do with all the work being carried out, that spun up and roared every 30 seconds for around 5 seconds, day and night. None stop. 8. We rented it via AirBnB and even though they charge a cleaning fee, it was stipulated that we had to clean up, take out the rubbish, wash the cups and glasses. Really?
Lastly, not being able to take possession of the room until 4pm was very inconvenient.
The only good part was that the curtains made the room really dark, which was important given we had to sleep during the day when the parents/baby in the adjoining room were out.
I would suggest checking closely re your room location etc., especially given all the trade work going on. There are a lot of options in Queenstown and having stayed there frequently, this was the worst experience we have had.

The “resort” is actually a construction zone at present. Reception is hard to access (it’s a door in the underground car park). There is no car parking making check in and out challenging. If you have a hire car you’ll be directed to park it up a nearby steep hill, meaning to access you vehicle you’ll be walking up a three story driveway ramp then cross a busy road (with no pedestrian crossing) then hike it up the hill.
The penthouse room we were allocated backed straight onto the construction site, meaning loud construction noise started at 6.30am and finished around 5pm. There was no noise proofing.
Due to the construction there are no resort facilities; no restaurant or coffee shop, no pool , spa etc. We were directed by staff to order Uber Eats.
Despite requesting a refund so we could go elsewhere we were told there is a no refund policy.

Room 505. This place is one of the most beautiful spots we've ever stayed, we've travelled the world and Queenstown is judt Magnificent. The appartments/ roomsat the Oaks Queenstown Shores Resort were beyond our exceptions, spacious, clean, comfortable, free parking, friendly staff, full kitchen, dining room, lounge room, laundry with washer and dryer, close to all attractions, expansive views of the lake and the Remarkables and the Hot Tub just an added extra that we used every day eve when it was raining lol. I would recommend the Oaks Queenstown Shores Resort to anyone thinking of a visit to Queenstown.

It can take up to 12 minutes for the shower to run warm. There is no salt or pepper provided in the apartments with kitchens. There are no complimentary hot chocolate sachets for kids. They only provide coffee and tea, which is great if you drink coffee and tea, but not so much if you don’t! If light bulbs are not working, it’s unlikely that they will be repaired. No towels, no hand towels, no flannels and no floor mat provided on arrival so had to ring through to reception. The apartment also needs regular vacuuming and dusting. The hotel is short staffed so they are trying their best but these basic services really make a difference to your overall experience.

Hi NZGuest, Thank you for taking the time to review Oaks Shores Queenstown. I sincerely apologize that your stay with us got off to a bad start and we haven’t met your expectations in a number of areas. This is most definitely not exemplary of a stay at Oaks Queenstown Shores Resort. It is disappointing to read that we were not able to meet the high standard that we have set for ourselves to make our guest’s holiday a memorable one. Also, we are very sorry that on some occasions during your stay you experienced a service that was below our standards especially with the towels and the maintenance issues . You may rest assured that we continuously introduce corrective and preventative measures through our extensive and on-going training programmes based on our guests’ feedback. We will use your feedback as a training tool and use the incidents you have highlighted to ensure we continuously improve our guest experiences. With the correct support I am confident that the shortfalls you experienced on this occasion will not be repeated in future. I do hope that you will join us for another stay and experience the service offering that you expected when choosing Oaks Queenstown Shores Resort. We do appreciate that traveling these days can be complicated and for some stressful, and that makes the fact that you have come to see us all the more delightful. Until the next time. Sincerely, Josie

We had the pleasure of staying here two years ago for the Queenstown marathon and had a great experience that we decide to book here again for two nights. On arrival check in was okay, layout of the room was great until we discovered blood in one of the bathrooms. On the second morning we all had cold showers and when we rang reception their answer was just to let it run for 5 minutes - he did not seem concern at all! For the price we paid we would expect a clean bathroom and hot showers. Hence to say our next Queenstown marathon booking is somewhere else.
