Stayed here for 3 nights, first 2 nights in a 4 bed dorm and 3rd night in a 6 bed dorm. It’s slightly out of the main drag so no problems with noise, but still only a few minutes walk to everything. The rooms were clean and the showers were decent. Each bunk has it’s own curtains, light and plug which was really helpful. The only thing I’d say is that the rooms are quite dark (good for sleeping, not as good for packing bags/getting ready). You get free tea and coffee and can also ask for hair dryers and straighteners for free. There’s a decent size kitchen area and benches inside and outside that you can sit at. Luggage storage is $5 per day per bag.

Kia Ora ! Thank you for your lovely review. We are really happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us here at Haka Queenstown. Our team works hard to keep the lodge as clean as possible and to make the guests feel happy. We are sorry to hear the room was too dark. Our reception team is always happy to help you if you have any issue, maybe we could just change the light bulb if needed and get another one stronger. Luggage storage is free before check-in and after check-out during the day, we only charge if the guest need to leave the bags for few days. You are welcome to come back here anytime. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip. Kind regards. Myriam, Assistant Manager

we liked it here, friendly, super clean and comfortable and slightly up-market to your average backpackers and not costing too much more. Showers were great, bed was comfy. Short coming was the noise factor, the building itself was noisy - every movement close by went straight through the walls. ear plugs provided! Haka Lodge policies go some way to fix this by limiting late night activities so that helped. would definitely stay here again.

Would recommend Haka Lodge- clean, well equipped, good bathrooms. Stayed in a dorm with 4beds which was good it was a small room. The beds are great being made of solid wood and the privacy curtain makes all the difference! It did get a bit smelly in the room as they were no ventilation or windows. Great central location. I’d defo stay here again

If you are planning to visit Queenstown for a few days and you are not too particular about your accommodation, you might want to consider HaKa Lodge.

If you are going to be out all day exploring and don't require much from your accommodation, you can opt for a private room. However, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

- The private room is suitable for a couple, but the linens, pillows, sheets, and the room itself may not meet your expectations. The price is lower, but the room is still decent.

- There is no toilet inside the guest room, but there is a common toilet that everyone can use, as well as a living room and a kitchen.

- Housekeeping service is not provided daily unless you pay extra for it. If you need towels or other amenities, you will have to pay extra for them as well.

If you are willing to pay a higher price for accommodation, you might want to consider booking somewhere else. However, if you are like us and plan to spend most of your time exploring the city and just need a place to sleep, HaKa Lodge is a good option.

The rooms have heaters and electric fans, but there are no other amenities like shampoo (although they do have it in the toilet, it is often empty). Towels are provided, but any extra towels will cost you.

The location is perfect and accessible to all places in town. You can walk to everything and won't miss out on anything because it is right in the center of the city.

If I were to come back to Queenstown again, I would consider staying at HaKa Lodge for a decent place to stay.

Stayed in 6 bed mixed room for 4 nights.
I requested a lower bunk due to hurting my back which was granted but after having to really make a case over a telephone call, almost beg and assure them i wasn't lying. The allocated bed had a curtain with white stains a bit like sick or something so I took another bed. The bed I took had hairs on the black duvet cover and also the curtain rail hooks had come off. I asked reception to rectify which they did. Lady at check in was friendly and apologised. Room was very dark due to purple walls. As we had window open in room to avoid smells I was cold and next morning asked another reception lady for a blanket to which they said I could use the communal lounging blankets. I asked when if it was clean and said once a week. I decided not to take one due to hygiene reasons and the receptionist offered no other alternative to assist me to feel comfortable and not cold. Asked the same receptionist for bus times for arrow town and was misinformed. Should have just googled it myself given she didn't want to. The bed locker lock was damaged although working, but had to be pushed hard into place to lock and made noise. Personally I found bed and bedding uncomfortable. The bathrooms were clean with good shower pressure. However bathrooms on ground floor smelled of damp. Bathroom on first floor near lounge didn't. Kitchen was clean other than food storage boxes being dirty and mouldy and a male staff washed one out for me to use. He was willing to help. Lounge looked comfortable. Nice outdoor seating. Fine for somewhere to stay in expensive Queenstown when doing trips. Some staff helpful others not, 2 helped and 2 didn't.

Kia ora Rupa, Thank you for your review, I apologise that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We had been receiving lower bunk requests from you from the time you made your booking almost 6 months prior, we had informed you then that whilst we cannot guarantee it, we would do our best. The lounge blankets were cleaned on the day you asked us for one. I apologise for the curtain rail and curtain not being to standard, these have since been fixed. Our staff are always happy to help, and we would never give incorrect information on purpose, unfortunately this time, the information given was inaccurate. I hope you enjoy the rest of your travels. Kind regards Haka Lodge Queenstown

Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Room was a good size but without an ensuite although the website suggested it did have an ensuite. The kitchen was well stocked. However, the room was above the kitchen and stairs so was fairly noisy. Parking was limited on site and we were told there was a charge of $10 per night. On street parking is mainly for 2 hours.only through the day.

First experience at the Haka lodge was great and I decided to book again with them. On my second visit I booked a double bed, but received two single beds. I asked for some sort of refund or discount but was told that the manager would be in touch with me. She never emailed or attempted to contact me. I called and asked and was told that there will be no refund and that putting two single beds together is 'normal' practice in hospitality. Was not offered an apology or refund or credit for another stay.

Kia ora Patrick, I am sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay with us. It is common practice in New Zealand for hostels and hotels with limited rooms to have two single beds that can be made into double beds. This is to maximize our potential room availability in a limited space. I never want guests to be unhappy or comfortable in my hostel, but accusing me of false advertisement is an incorrect allegation. If you hadn't hung up the phone during our conversation, I would have been able to tell you that I could offer you a discount on your next stay in any of our Haka properties. I hope you enjoy the rest of your travels, and best health in these strange times. Kind regards Aoife Lodge Manager

Apartment was spacious, clean, and had the necessary amenities. Single beds were comfy but the queen mattress probably needs replacing as it slants to the middle so is hard to sleep on with two people. The room rate was high around NYE but that was probably the same across the city/country. Friendly and helpful staff throughout our stay and a convenient location for anything happening in town, which was great for the NYE events.

Unrelated note to Haka Lodge, we also booked a rental car with booking.com that we were supposed to pick up in Queenstown. We had confirmed it with Hertz the week prior, yet when we went to pick up the car booking.com had randomly cancelled the reservation without any notification and we had to spend waaay more on a last minute car, which our trip relied on, and which we were lucky to even find that time of year. The booking.com service team was not able to assist in any way. Would not recommend renting a car through booking.com. Hoping to claim some type of reimbursement for this experience as it cost us over a 1000 dollars.

As soon as I entered the lodge, there was a disgusting smell in the lobby like someone has just pooped on the floor, either that or they lit poop scented candles. OR it could be that they are a very small building and no proper ventilation, very small cramped up and messy rooms. I had booked it for two nights and couldn’t even stay for one. Would not recommend, can definitely find better places for around the same price. The lady at front desk (Charlotte), was kind enough to offer to change my dorm room but i was so put off by the smell when I entered first that I didn’t want to stay there at all.

Kia ora TheOutdoorFoodie, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us, Of course, nobody had relieved themselves on the floor, and nor did we light that kind of scented candle, the building has opening windows in every room. We are sorry you felt there was a smell that was unbearable to stay in, as I understand it the issue we were made aware of was the size of your room which as you mentioned we offered to swap. Nevertheless, I will pass on to the manager Charlotte and we will make sure there is nothing wrong with the building. Nga mihi Kirsty

This is my second visit here which speaks for itself I guess.
I spent five days here over the Christmas holidays when the place was very quiet, which suited me...but is probably not ideal for a standard review. It is however perfectly situated, central without the noise and minutes away for food shopping.
There are plenty of toilet/shower areas and two reasonable size kitchens with a nice outdoor balcony to relax on.
The only slight draw back for me are the dorms are somewhat "cosy", and the kitchen is not the best stocked in the world.
Other than that it's a good place to be...and Steph and the team do a good job of keeping the place ship shape.

I would advise contacting Haka Lodge directly. They are GR8 with email. I did not see a specific room set-up as space is limited, though they might work something up out back by the washer and dryer? As for deals, work directly with their reception. They get special deals from time to time.
