We stayed a ‘budget twin room’. It was a very small room in a ‘house’ with two other rooms (total 8 beds) sharing 1 toilet and 1 shower. The shower was upstairs with the 3 rooms and the toilet was downstairs. The stairs were really creaky so very noisy during the night with people coming in and out and going to the toilet. The kitchen was old but fine but you couldn’t have more than 1 party cooking in at one time. The furniture in the lounge/dining room was a bit gross. The wifi was also really terrible (continuously dropping out, couldn’t load anything at peak times of the day). Generally it was just not what we had expected in terms of setup, when compared to other accommodation in the same price range we have stayed at, and it was so much more run down than any of the photos on their website. Although we did have a nice view out our window.

Also, although they said free parking was available, there were limited spots, and they were extremely narrow. There was generally not any street parking available either as it was so busy.

Staff were friendly at reception and the common areas were cleaned each day. The location was good with only a short walk to the centre of town and many restaurants and attractions and a supermarket around the corner. All in all, enjoyed our time in Queenstown but this accommodation was below our expectations.

The room was clean and we had all the things we needed in the kitchen. I think you should let people know if they are being given the room with the large modem/router that services many rooms. The fan is very loud especially at night when you are trying to sleep. The bathroom also needs places to hang towels and clothes.. Plus, somewhere to put toiletries. Just a few hooks and a metal candy in the shower would be good. Not too expensive and saves leaving your towel on the floor and shampoos etc outside the shower. Extra toilet paper for when it runs out would have been great too.

Stayed here for a week. Was a little apprehensive about sharing facilities as you never know what the other guests are going to be like but I was pleasantly surprised.

Kitchen was immaculate and so was the bathroom/shower room. One toilet cubicle had a broken lock and the glass shower cubicle doors were a bit flimsy. The showers are in their own locked cubicle though.

Cleaners came in everyday and refreshed towels in the kitchen/bathroom.

Bedrooms are great size. We had a double bed and a bunk bed even though it was just the two of us but it was good having someone to put our things that wasn’t just on the floor.

There were two fridge/freezers in the communal area and each room had their own labelled shelf as well as a numbered cupboard to store their food. There was also an oven, hob, microwave, toaster and two kettles.

Note that if you just get the standard rooms, your personal towels aren’t changed ($3 to get a new one) and your rooms aren’t cleaned during your stay.

There’s also some parking outside the lodge if you have a car/small van.

The location is about a 10 minute walk into town and is close to some beautiful walks.

Would recommend and would stay here again for sure.

We hadn’t expected Pinewood to be more hostel than hotel and were disappointed that the room was very small and cramped for three people in a room with one small double bed and bunkbeds. Facilities were shared (2 showers and loos) and there was a communal seating area and kitchen.

The biggest issue was that there was no ladder for the upper bunk and the youngest member of our group had to clamber up to the bed by climbing on the window ledge. This wasn’t exactly safe and when we spoke to staff about the missing ladder we were met with a shrug and basically given the brush off.

On the positive side, Pinewood Lodge is conveniently located close to town (10 minutes’ walk to the town centre) and would probably suit travellers seeking basic accommodation.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback Carole, We are sorry about the ladder situation, and will have a discussion how we can best accommodate guests to easily access the top bunks. Regarding the room types however, we do have a wide selection available for every type of travel depending on their needs/budget. We do have rooms with private bathrooms or studios/self contained units which we could definitely help to arrange for you on your next trip to Queenstown!

I stayed at this place for 8 nights and I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The 2 girls who worked at the reception were very nice. The facilities were of a high standard and the lodge is walking distance to the city center.
Overall I was satisfied with my stay at the Pinewood Lodge.

My partner and I stayed in a one bedroom ‘villa’ with our own bathroom over the new year period. It was relatively secluded from the shared accomodation and we rarely heard any noise from other parts of pinewood lodge which was a plus. They were also kind enough to put us in the villa furthest from the shared accomodation areas (number 13).

We had a bedroom, living room, small kitchen and bathroom.

In the bedroom, the kind bed was two old beds pushed together so there was a peak in the middle and then noticeable dips on either side which wasn’t very comfortable.

The living room sofa was on the dirtier side of the spectrum and the TV couldn’t connect to the lodge internet.

The kitchen had a stove, oven and microwave. The stove was an old style electric stove that didn’t work very well. I was honestly was never able to get water to boil. There was washing liquid provided as well as a washing brush and sponge. However, the sponge was incredibly old and used - it look like it hasn’t been changed in a very long time. The kitchen tap didn’t turn off when on the cold setting and had to be switched to hot and then off in order to get the water to stop running.

Finally, the bathroom was small but functional. There was a bit of mould on the bottom of the shower screen and the bathroom vanity was slightly damaged.

We also made use of the laundry facilities that were provided at $4 per load. This was a seamless process.

Overall, the room worked and was functional. But there some noticeable areas in which cleanliness and ease of use could be improved.

This is a backpackers destination and a hostel for those who feel adventurous for sure. Shared facilities with also shared towels is unhygienic and not quite what we expected. Rooms are very old this is why they can be quite smelly and won’t let you get a good quality sleep. They have a good and cheap centre for activities but for Rooms you won’t save money, this is why it is probably better to invest a little bit more and stay comfy. Also they do not have hairdryers in the bathrooms.

Stayed in 5 different units in our time in Queenstown. Quality differed greatly between standard units. One smelled of urine and bathroom pipes and taps were leaky. The rest were clean with good range of kitchen equipment and decent bathrooms. Bed quality varied from great to one that had awful pillows and terrible roll together.
Safe storage for gear when we were away on a hiking trip was very useful. Also had a fridge to store perishable food during that time.
Very well located to walk into town and to gondola.

This place was ok. The other guests that stayed here let me know it was not a good value for the price. Although they do give the place a quick wipe down and vacuum, it's in serious need a deep cleaning and some TLC. Also, every one of the guests in our unit scalded themselves on the water. Luckily, I only scalded my hand, one of the other guests got scalded in the shower. There is only one TV in the main room, so you're stuck watching whatever other guests are watching. I was pretty apalled when my husband went to the front desk to borrow a hair dryer and we had to leave a $50 deposit! The front desk was very helpful and friendly, they suggested some amazing places to eat. Much appreciated.

Great place to stay with different choices for rooms. I stayed in 3 different rooms. I liked the Double private rooms that had a bathroom with shower. The double bed was comfortable & there was also a single which I used for my luggage. It was roomy enough for 2 people but traveling solo it was really perfect. The shared kitchen & lounge area for this building (one upstairs & another on 1st floor) were huge & clean. Due to a last minute booking at end of my stay I had to stay in a 4 bunk room (just me in the room) that was small & I thought dark. However, the bunk was comfortable & the shared single shower was on the same floor but toilet was on 1st floor as were the lounge & small kitchen. There were only 3 rooms in this building that shared the facilities but for me it wasn't the best. However, I highly recommend the Lodges other rooms & all rooms were very clean. When I changed rooms I put my bags in a secure storage until my next room was ready. The staff was exceptional & the location great. It was about a 10min walk to the main part of town which had great restaurants & stores. In the other direction was a grocery about a 5 min walk from the Lodge. Wifi was very good & they give you different codes because one was only good for a certain length of time before it expired. Also you need a different code for each device you use. I really enjoyed my stay here & would choose it again.

Sorry for reply you so late. Sorry, I lived in a dorm room so I have no idea about the room you mentioned. But I kindly suggest you that no matter which kind of room you book, the service is same. Very bad service. Besides, the public kitchen is not well equipped and not clean!(What a mess the public kitchen is). Sorry for that I can not answer your question. Best wishes!

Hello Siobhan. Yes, Pinewood does have free parking and depending on which unit you have there may even be parking right at that unit, however, be aware that parking can sometimes be busy but there is also on street parking with no restrictions but would suggest you try & utilize the off street parking if at all possible.
