On our tour of New Zealand this hotel was significantly more expensive than any of the others, so we had expected it to be very good. I am sorry to say it wasn’t. I think the reason it was so expensive was because the area is very popular so it’s a case of supply and demand. Having said that, it wasn’t bad! The entrance area was open and airy and very pleasant. We had a drink in the bar and a bar meal and I would rate them as very good. Our room had a lake view which was lovely. It was just that the room felt a bit tired. The shower was over the bath which I always regard as poor. There were no USB sockets to charge your phone/tablet, again something I would expect in a 4 star hotel. Finally, there was no air conditioning, room cooling being done by a fairly noisy fan and opening the windows. However at night we had the heavy, black-out curtains (full marks for these) drawn so no chance for any cool night air getting in. Breakfast was just standard fare but they did have Birchers muesli-hurray! So I would have rated them good but not very good if I had had the option.

Hi Hstevens282 Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you enjoyed the bar, lake view, and blackout curtains. You are correct February is one of Queenstown's busiest months and this is reflected in the cost of accommodation across town at this time

I had 3 night Copthorne Hotel and Resort Queenstown Lakefront the room is clean and basic the bed comfortable I had a good sleep the room to big even had a good seating area coffee tea in the room TV had variety of choices however the bathroom that not that great they need to get rid of that bath basin I am not sure what is purpose? The shower curtain so cheap common if you charge your guests a tip dollars you can afford a decent shower curtain it New Zealand not a 3rd world country. All the Wi-fi so terrible even basic email take time to download also what is deposit for if you don’t have any minibar in the room ? I think all those can improve a good management I had pizz one night taste good anyway this Queenstown accommodation always in short that way they don’t care still a good place to crush a big hot two.

I was ambivalent about staying here after reading through the reviews, but all and all I had a good stay. The rooms were a nice size and very clean. The towels were fluffy and plentiful. The location is great for walking to town (7-10min), and the breakfast buffet had a good selection of food. There was a very nice laundry room for quests that I didn’t need to use, but great to know it was there. I was part of a small tour group and there were several large groups there at the same time, but this had no negative impact on my stay.
As noted by many, the rooms could you some refurbishment of the furniture and carpeting throughout, as well as the bath including getting rid of shower curtains. This is just a function of age, not lack of maintenance.
It was an enjoyable stay regardless. With these added touches I’d probably rate the hotel higher. Rooms with a lake view cost a bit more but are worth the awesome look.

Overall experience in this hotel was very average. The rooms are very dated, beige on beige decor and dirty shower curtains in the bathroom. Be aware that room service will happen very late in the afternoon (4pm-5pm). Unfortunately, the food menu (same for room service and restaurant) is less than average. i had a Burger and fries and fries were undercooked and burger was tasteless - this was charged at NZ$36!!. plus $5 room delivery which is standard here in NZ. Be aware - Parking on site is an extra $15 per night. Bed linen good, bathroom lighting average and not good for putting on make up.Rooms have good views and this facility is within a good walking distance to the town centre. Staff welcome and service is average to good. i paid nearly NZ$400 per night and it was certainly not worth the money. Shop around.

The Copthorne Lakeside is in a good location, an eight minute walk into the centre of Queenstown. We had a room facing the lake and the view was amazing. The room was more a three star than a four. It was tired and in need of refurbishing. The curtains were slightly ripped, the wallpaper was coming off in places and the carpet seemed old. The bathroom was decent with a good shower and shampoo etc provided. The bed was very comfortable.
The breakfast was decent with a reasonable choice.
The staff were nice and helpful.

Overall, the stay in the Junior Suite was pleasant, even if a few items stated to be in the room were missing (i.e. hairdryer). The suite had lovely lakeside views and was very quiet. When requested, the rooms were serviced to a high standard and cleaned thoroughly.
Room service was very quick on the weekday evening we ordered. The one evening we went to the in-house restaurant, there was a 45-minute delay between the entrees and the mains, which was not explained.
Car parking was available at an extra charge.

I think the 4 stars are false adverting, manage you expectations. One star for the view, the other for the comfort of the bed. The staff were avoidant and unhelpful. The hotel was old and dated with a strange layout. We had to walk down three corridors, get a lift and then navigate a flight of stairs with our luggage and no offer of help. No effort to tell us when or where breakfast was, although in fairness I wish we hadn't found it. The coffee was undrinkable and the food worse than any. We didn't got back the next two mornings and had breakfast in town instead. To be fair the location was pretty good, although you have to pay for the car park when on street parking is readily available and free. There was plenty of space for all tour buses mind you. I would not recommend.

An awful hotel - probably not helped as we were on a boutique and unique drive around NZ and for some inexplicable reason our agent booked us into this dump for a night whilst enroute from the south to Mount Cook, As others have said the hotel caters for bus tours. Thankfully we had stayed in a lovely B and B the previous week so the experience didn’t affect our view of Queenstown. The hotel is ugly, sprawling and very dated. It doesn’t have air conditioning which given the rooms get hot in the summer and you can only open the windows a crack is not good. The hotel provided us with a fan which we didn’t use as the bearing was worn and it made a dreadful noise. It is all very 1980s. Only good point was the beds are comfortable. Place should be knocked down and sits redeveloped, There are far better alternative lower cost hotels.

Spent 2 nights here either side of a trip to Te Anau and the sounds. Beds were super comfortable. Staff were for the most part very friendly and helpful, especially Vipul on reception who went to a lot of trouble to help us select the exact room to meet our needs, showing us several categories. We picked a room with balcony conveniently located on the same floor as the bar. We arrived just in time for discount cocktail hour 5 to 6 p.m. each night, we enjoyed several cocktails and ate dinner out on the balcony overlooking the lake. The bar staff were humorous and friendly, and made us feel comfortable, especially the one very tall barman whose name I can't remember, he was super helpful with selecting the drinks, lighting my sister's cocktail on fire and having a laugh with us.
Breakfast was pretty good we enjoyed the armchair option, once again overlooking the lake. The breakfast staff were very efficient constantly filling up our coffee cups and making sure we had everything we needed. I want to suggest perhaps giving guests a pot of coffee or tea to have on their table to help themselves, so the staff don't have to run around so much during current restrictions. It was very cute having the exchange library in the restaurant hallway we thought, so thoughtful for guests dining alone.
The basement car park had convenient elevator access, and the abundance of luggage trolleys made it really easy to move our heavy bags about from car to reception to our room floor.
The hotel was close to beautiful lakeside walks, the botanical gardens and to town. Even though it may not be five-star, we loved it and would definitely stay again.

Stayed at the Copthorne during my travels across New Zealand. The hotel was a bit dated although the room was clean. The receptionist didn’t tell us we could park for free and instead charged us for three nights parking! Didn’t try the food but ate in town. The room was cleaned on time each day and the shower was very powerful.

Hi C8094JZdeet, Thank you for the review of your stay. Sorry if the information on the parking was not clear, the hotel does offer undercover parking which is charged by the night, there is street parking near the hotel that is free, but it is not always easy to find a nearby available space.

I was on the fourth floor and there was a wall panel heater that worked well. Room was adequately warm despite it being freezing outside. No electric blankets though!
There are more places to choose from in the Queenstown area.
