Detailed Reviews
Melbourne Lodge was the perfect place for my friends and I to stay at during our 4 day holiday. We arrived on Wednesday night drenched from the rain and were immediately shown our room from a kind staff member. Although our first room wasn’t what we had expected from the advertised photos we were given an amaaazing discount on an apartment upstairs which we absolutely appreciated.
This apartment was clean, tidy with a beautiful view of the lake and surrounding mountains. It had a kitchen, appliances, utensils, plenty of ammenities and two bedrooms. The beds and couch were also super comfy! It was upstairs and away from other guests so it was nice to have our own privacy. Rooms were immaculate, bathroom was clean with a spacious shower and the apartment had plenty of space to place luggage, bags, shoes and hang up clothes.
Even though we had upgraded from the room we had initially booked, that room was also very clean and had it’s own small kitchenette supplied with utensils, pans, cutlery and rice cooker. Perfect sized for a couple or solo traveller with a cute little patio outside.
The lodge is in the perfect location, literally just a 4 minute walk from town so getting to the Skyline, Ice Bars, Queenstown Mall, wharf etc are within walking distance. Staff were super welcoming and kind especially Vineet (Lodge manager) who gave my friends and I the apartment for a discounted price. Super chill dude and was cool to talk to. This place was the perfect accomodation which made our trip even more awesome. Thank you Melbourne Lodge for an amazing time!

Vineet was an excellent host to us. He always greeted us with a smile, asking how was our day.
Upon arrival he gave us the option to choose the room that we liked the most within the price we had paid. The room was beautiful, an incredibly comfortable bed, we had a mountain view and everything! Every day, the housekeeping guys made the bed for us and changed our towels if we needed it.
Vineet was kind enough to offer to do our laundry and he also rearranged the bookings so we could stay longer. We would have stayed forever, we loved the place, the location, but above all, THE EXCELLENT SERVICE!
Do not stop booking in this place, you can walk everywhere, 5 minutes from the center (there is only one block up or downhill, but it is easily done and it is very useful if your vacation was gastronomic ;) and the bus stop is right there, there are several that take you to Frankton, Arrowtown or to the ski centers. You can't get better!
The price-quality ratio is incredible, I would even say that I would pay more because the attention is exceptional and is greatly appreciated.
Give Vineet and his team a hand so that places like this can keep working !!! Surely if you contact him directly, you will see how divine he is and surely he will have some attention.

When we first checked into the accommodation the staff were super friendly and helpful. Room was really nice and spacious, and was clean and tidy. We had a beautiful view of the lake which was great.
The heater worked really well in the cold weather and the shower had great water pressure.

I paid for a bed and breakfast and only got the bed. This was the third time I had been to the lodge, and finding out there was no breakfast (even though I paid for a breakfast) made me a lot more critical of the facilities. The communal bathrooms need to be much cleaner, and ideally need an upgrade. The single bed rooms were okay, beds reasonably comfy, but bring ear plugs as walls there seem paper thin, and every cough and every phone conversation from the next rooms is very audible. The communal dinning room was poor at best, very few plates, cutlery and cups available, little or no dishwashing liquid; on the last day of my visit I had to eat my cereal out of a cup. A guest used hand washing liquid to clean a cup, and by the last day of my visit the dish washing liquid was used up and guests were just rinsing dishes under water and placing them on the drying rack. Under the current circumstances I can't see how this total lack of food hygiene is acceptable. You wouldn't accept that paying twenty bucks a night at a backpackers. This used to be my go-to place when staying at Queenstown. Not any more.

Unfortunately the major roadworks in Queenstown going right past this 3 star hotel has not made it look very enticing to new arrivals. Roads closed and diversions in place. Arrived very early, reception not manned, obvious stag party enjoying beers outside at 11am - didn't bode well. Able to leave the car whilst we went into town, on return we were advised of current boil tap water advice in majority of Queenstown (Google it!). Room was adequate, carpet found to be wet on entry, strong fan blowing in corridor - purportedly for dust caused by roadworks but later spotted blowing on to a room which had been reported as smelling damp! There was no bath mat and the floor outside the shower got wet and became slippery. A/C / heating was great and warmed the room quickly when needed. Bed comfy and sheets and towels clean. Expected more from a 3*, didn't sample food so can't comment.

This is a moldy, damp, old, rundown, paper thin walled, heating barely working hostel/hotel/lodge that is charging the same as modern nearby hotels. My partner and I got sick from the mold from staying here and as we did not complain during our time the hotel have not addressed our concerns(we checked into another hotel as we could not stay here for 9nights with the mold). We don't feel that we need to explain about basic standards a hotel/hostel should provide. They are clearly charging a high fee and not putting any money into the building. (Please check other google / booking reviews that talk about bed bugs at Melbourne Lodge)

I booked this place based on prior reviews, and only writing this to provide current feedback. This property is very very tired and poorly maintained. Issues include mould in the shower, sink plug didn't work, frozen over icebox in the fridge (leaky seal most likely), bathroom extraction fan didn't extract, there was a short in the electrics as when you turned on the bathroom light the main lights switched on and off, rooms were dusty, the common area lounge was a disgrace with broken cupboards and no handles, broken window latches in room, showerhead not secure and fell down every use, cobwebs in property, indifferent front desk staff, threadbare towels, old uncomfortable beds - and all this for the glorious sum of $360 a night for 3 people. The only redeeming factor was that the property is a 5 minute downhill walk to town. Caveat emptor if you book this lodge.

To save money at the end of a 2 week New Zealand trip I booked a room w/ a shared bathroom. It turned out to be a non-issue when we needed a shower but a little inconvenient for middle of the night toilet trips. Nobody's fault but my own. Convenient to downtown but a steep walk. Vinnie, at the front desk, was friendly & helpful.

Amazing customer service, so helpful and friendly. Good place to stay and well priced. Cleanliness was of a high standard, loads of parking at the lodge and also out on the roadside which is super helpful as it’s free. Also located in a good area as it’s not far from town but far enough from any noise.

My Family stayed here from 28th December 2022 until 4th January 2023. In a Family Room. The Rooms were well kept and quite modern. We were made to feel very welcome and all the Staff were very obliging and helpful. The Lodge was better than some Motels we have stayed in.
Thankyou for our stay Melbourne Lodge. We will be back.

Not sure but I’d suggest phoning them to ask. They are very obliging! X
Hi the bed was king from what i remember. The area is very quiet and i never heard any sounds at all from the road. Definitely recommend this place to you.... you wont be disappointed
Breakfast is served from 7 am or earlier on request. They are very obliging.
It is continental style with a range of cereals, yoghurt, fruits, muffins, toast and coffee or tea. I am not sure if they do a hot breakfast on request or over the winter months.
