Really good hostel with light airy rooms. We stayed as a family of 3 so had lots of space as our room slept 5. The location on the waterfront was perfect, and the view from the kitchen was fab.

The kitchen was really small for the size of the hostel and was usually busy and cramped. Lots of things ran out (forks for example) including the free tea they provide. There were no towels when we checked in ,and our towels kept disappearing from our room so we had to pick up clean ones. Another family we met were only ever given hand towels for their whole stay! There was no living space other than a windowless TV room on the ground floor.

Appreciably in the middle of QT space is at a premium but we missed the living space compared to other hostels we've been at.

The landromat next door but part of the hostel was closed for a whole morning one day for the hostel staff to clean the hostel laundry. This was pretty inconvenient.

A good hostel and I would recommend, but significant improvements could be made.

Thank you for your detailed feedback! We're so happy to hear you enjoyed your room and our epic lakefront location! We do try to stay on top of stocking for kitchen equipment, unfortunately whilst we can't stop people taking things for their own use, we do hope guests will let our reception team know at any point during your stay about these items so we can ensure they are replenished. As we aren't a hotel we do not provide fresh towels daily as we provide this as a free service, however we are happy to change them out if someone has been with us for a few days. We appreciate your feedback regarding our laundry and lounge - unfortunately we do need to process our own laundry and that can impact guest use on some days, but we do try to limit this as much as possible to only 2-3hrs on heavy-load days only. And we hope you took some time to hang out and meet people in our reception lounge as well as our guest lounge! Thanks again for your improvement suggestions, we will continue to do our best to seek improvements wherever possible. All the best in your future adventures!

Absolootly perfect!!!
Stayed with my 3 children (15, 17, 19). Had a family which consisted on a single bunk bed & a double/single bunk. Had our own shower, toilet & bar fridge. The rooms were big enough for us & our suitcases. There was access to additional amenities on the same floor.
Rooms were clean & comfortable. We had views out to the lake & main st (Beach St).
Kitchen facilities were great. Beautiful views out over the lake. Plenty of pots, bowls/plates, cutlery. Two ovens with hot plates (4 per oven). Kitchen is regularly cleaned & other guests were considerate of others.
Accommodation was very centrally located, right in the heart of Queenstown. Easy access to local bus service. Parking can be hard if you hire a car. Absoloot provides a map of free street parking but it fills up quickly. However, park just on the outskirts & it’s a little walk back to the accommodation.
Highly recommend Absoloot as a place to stay no matter what your age.

Stayed in a private ensuite room in early August 2024. Location is very convenient and just a minute’s walk from Duke Street for those catching the ski buses to the mountains. The room was spacious and clean. Also contained a mini fridge. Towels are provided but hairdryers have to be requested from reception.

Coffee, tea and hot choc were provided in the communal kitchen as advertised and you could buy your own groceries from the nearby shops and cook your own meals if you wanted.

Wifi worked great throughout our entire stay. They have a laundromat on site which also houses the ski/board storage room.

For the price, you probably can’t get any better than this place. Queenstown accomodation is generally expensive and this place isn’t exactly cheap either but it is one of the most affordable options and is great value so long as you’re not looking for luxury.

If I had to nitpick, I guess the mattresses could be a little bit firmer and the sink in the ensuite was too small. Otherwise, not much to complain about.

I’ve been backpacking around South Island with my friend and we agreed that these were the best beds we’ve stayed in. We stayed in a 6-bed room and this was definitely the most comfortable we’ve been in a room, there’s also lots of luggage space with the option to lock your stuff without extra pay. Facilities were all clean, just one unisex bathroom but wasn’t ever too busy. Staff are also very helpful and friendly.

Great place to stay in the centre of Queenstown for 8 nights. We booked out the whole room as did another family member. Has a laundry attached, and a lift that’s turned off from 10 pm till 9 am each nite, but the hostel kept it running at night for a family member who had got out of hospital that morning and had to use a walker. Staff at reception very helpful. The cleaning staff kept the wet areas cleaned. Handy to everything. Kitchen in tip top order, although more signs are needed to explain about it being each persons responsibility to clean up after themselves.

Thanks so much for your stay and your review! We're stoked you enjoyed your time with us. We do try to emphasise personal responsibility in communal spaces from guests, however we sometimes get called out for having too much signage, whilst others would prefer more! Thanks for pointing it out though, and we'll continue to do our best to maintain the spaces for everyone. Hope to see you again in the future, and good luck on your next adventures!

The views from the private rooms on the corner of the building towards the lake are phenomenal AND Sooo much cheaper than a hotel and you get the best view in the city. Right in the centre close to all the eateries and bars and right on the lake in the centre of the atmosphere. I was concerned about the noise levels before going but all the noise stopped at a reasonable time - It was one of the best sleeps I had in one of the comfiest beds I've had in a hotel. Double glazed windows, thick walls meant the room was warm enough to not have the heating off. Really nice interior and beautiful beds. Everything was spotless and I've never stayed in a cleaner hostel. The panorama from the Kitchen makes me never want to cook in another kitchen again, EVER. Extremely helpful and tentative staff helped me with all my queries and requests - i know i have a lot - sorry!!! Special thanks to Shaun and Chris who went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as nice and as hospitable as possible. Cant recommend this place and their service enough.

Hands down the best hostel in Queenstown! Choosing this place to stay Absolootely made my time in Queenstown. The staff are sooo friendly and made me feel very welcome from the moment I walked in. They took the time to answer all my questions and gave me some epic recommendations which really helped me get the most out of my trip.
I did shop around before booking Absoloot and booked it for the BREATHTAKING view from the kitchen and it did not disappoint! I loved sitting there and watching the world go by (although sitting there meant I maybe made too much use of the free tea, coffee and hot chocolate ahaha oooops).
The other big thing I must mention is how clean the place is! I've stayed in alot of hostels after years of travelling and this is by far the best. They keep everything to a very high standard which blew my mind as that's not common in hostels but made my stay so much more comfortable.
Because I loved it so much I suggested it to a friends parents as I know they had private rooms and for me this place was so clean and felt like a home that it would be better than an expensive hotel and they also loved the friendly vibe, beautiful room and thought it was such good value for money.
I could go on forever about all the positives, but I will finish on saying thanks to the staff at reception and housekeeping, you are all so awesome and I loved chatting with you and hearing your stories!

This is probably the best and cleanest hostel I have stayed in, and definitely the best location.
My husband and I stayed for four nights in the third floor queen room with ensuite. It had its own fridge, electric kettle and microwave. It's a corner room so has amazing views over the lake front and out to the mountains. Probably the best view in Queenstown for this price, so handy to all the lake activities, and close to the nightlife action, restaurants etc.
Parking was a little bit of an issue, but the staff were helpful in directing us to where we could find close-ish free parking.

All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful in every way, and it was nice having our room cleaned everyday by the housekeeping team!

As other posters have said, the kitchen also has amazing views from the breakfast bar.

Being a hostel, you did have the odd noisy guest - I think we were woken after midnight every night by other guests returning from their night out. I would recommend taking ear plugs, and we also had a white noise app on our phone to drown out the late night conversations of others. Just remind yourself how good the view and location is and don't let some noise ruin your stay in amazing Queenstown! I would definitely stay here again.

First time in Queenstown and the Hostel did not disappoint. Right near the waterfront and central to all the attractions. They provided us with everything we needed and the kitchen/shared bathrooms were very hygienic. No problems with our stay other than no private parking but the free street parking was only a few minutes away. Would definitely stay here again for the great price and hospitaliity!

New name and new beds! The new 4 Bed Dorms are sensation and probably the best rooms i've stayed in, in Queenstown. The beds are super comfy and incredibly sturdy - no noise at all when you move around. Every bed has its own massive storage space with lockable doors and its own reading light and power points. Most of the rooms have their own bathroom, which are kept really clean by the daily housekeeping team and the reception staff are second to none. They even have special deals for tours in town! They also have a set of brand new self-service laundry machines and driers - no more out of order signs! Excellent value and incredible stay again.

Hi There! Yes the windows can be fully-covered by the shutters in the rooms. Please be aware though that these are not 'black-out' shutters if that is your preference - like most curtains/shutters they will allow a very minor amount of light to permeate. Hope that helps!

Hi. Is there an available parking space in the hotel vicinity? Thanks
Answer from Shaun K
Queenstown, New Zealand41 contributions
Hi There, We do not have any parking on-site because of our premier location, however there are a couple of options available. There is free 24hr on-street parking in the surrounding streets near the hostel, which we can show you on a map on arrival. Otherwise there is a parking facility near the hostel, which costs approximately $24 for 24hrs. You can also park in any timed park or loading zone from 9pm until 8:30am in the downtown area. We hope that helps! AVA Management

What is the noise level on a thursday night. If close all windows is it still noisy?
Answer from GeordieManners
Queenstown, New Zealand86 contributions12 helpful votes
Its the most centrally located hostel in Queenstown, but most of the others are within a street or two away so it doesnt make a difference where you stay for the noise. If you dont want noise then you dont book a hostel in the centre of town - simple! The windows are double glazed so yes it reduces the noise... there's also free earplugs at reception so you should have any issues anyway.

I don't believe there are any packages available through the hostel. However, yes there is a lockable drying room for all ski gear, and the buses to The Remarkables or Coronet are literally just around the corner about a 2 minute walk away. Good choice on hostel by the way. It's the best in town in my opinion
