The chalets looked nice, and the campground has very nice accommodations, but the dorms stunk....literally. The design of our dorm room offered zero air circulation and reaked of wet shoes or gear all night. There is no fan and the windows are next to the...More
Sublime! I had booked a mountain view cabin as all the river view ones were gone, but I’d sent a mail asking to upgrade if one became available: despite them not having a policy to do this sort of thing, when we arrived, they had...More
We stayed one night at the riverside chalet. Very comfortable beds with a well equipped kitchen. Portacot was provided for my baby. Was initially worried about sandflies in the area and in the room, but worries were unfounded. Did see some flying around outside the...More
We enjoyed thoroughly our only night spent at the Milford Sound Lodge, a perfect place with a friendly staff, excellent restaurant, and very comfortable suite-like chalet overlooking the river. Definitely a place to recommend for a stay before or after your excursion on Milford Sound.
We stayed in a campervan, so I can't say anything about the rooms, but they looked nice when I peeked in.
We came when it was sunny (unusual for the area) but then it poured down during the night and the second day.

We just returned from new zealand. drove from queenstown to milford sound and it was a pretty long drive. try to start the drive early. We started at 10am and we arrived at about 4pm so it was a total of 6 hours. we had a few times of stop for some stretching and coffee. a drive without breaks is simply impossible to be honest. We also did just a day visit at milford. It was an amazing stay at the lodge and also the cruise was beautiful. there are many place to hike at milford and if you plan to do that, you will need more than a day. but if you are only doing just a cruise and aren't tired from the driving, one day is enough.
