We were in Sparky's for 2 nights and it was horrible. We were in a room with 8 other people. The beds are old and make loud noises. In addition Sparky, the owner, is neither relaxed nor friendly. Once he came to our room and said that we should be friendly. We didnt do anything but lying in our beds til...

We stayed at Sparky's for one night before taking the ferry to Bluff. Sparky is a funny fellow with lots to say. We found far more than just a room. We spoke a lot about the history, stuff he is working on, life in Invercargill. The place is a bit messy, YHA it is not, but very cozy and a...

This has to be the worst hostel I've stayed in NZ. Customer services skills = zero. Location - not that great. Atmosphere=zero. Rooms...few decades back maybe great but now...not so much. They just felt dirty. Never again.

We stayed at Sparky's Backpackers for one night and that was one night too many. Dirty, looking like it had never been cleaned (ever). He also asked us if we were going to be drinking and showed us a real tiny recycling bin. Sounded like he did not want us drinking there anyway, probably best that way. Looks like he...

Stayed here for two nights in a 6 bed room and was met by sparky and his familar who were lovely. A house built made to be a home with some quirky rooms and art work on the walls. I stayed in the room know as the eygptian room and was exactly like that. Some cool art work on the...

A friend an I stayed at this place for a single night in a double room, which in fact was a freezing cabin in the backyard. The heater wasn't working and the whole room was dirty, looked like the bedding hadn't been washed for a long time and there was a carpet in our bed. There are signs everywhere telling...

This hostel seems like it was quite good at one point...it has really cool and quirky decor and our double room was quite nice. Sparky was friendly enough, but complained constantly about the stresses of running a hostel. There are also signs posted everywhere telling you what to do and not do. "Free breakfast" was just cereal, but no milk....

Was not a very nice place to stay, very dirty! Nothing seemed clean and there was a terrible smell as soon as you walked in the door. The bathroom looked as if it had not been cleaned for quite a long time and the back garden is so cluttered with rubbish and there is a ridiculous number of rabbits too!...

This was by far the dirtiest place I've ever stayed. I felt dirtier after taking a shower in the bathroom than before I went in there. There were no signs the bathroom had been cleaned during the 3 nights I was there. In addition to being dirty, everything was under construction and there was clutter absolutely everywhere. From overhearing different...
