This is such a cool place to chill and relax in private. This is not a fun park or adventure playground (thank goodness) but its (relative) isolation makes it pretty special. Sitting on the deck overlooking the water, watching the tidal changes with a cold beer in hand is one of life's luxuries. I'd imagine a dip in the water...

One of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have every stayed. Had the room in the main section of the retreat which doesn't have the same view as the other two but was nonetheless a lovely room. Food was of the highest quality and simply presented. Was there with three small children who soak up the calming environment and...

Warm welcome by Julia on arrival. Interested and caring owner Kyle. Room with a superb view on the inlet of Otago Peninsula. Free use of washing machine. Great breakfast and dinner prepared by chef Filippo Morrigi. Wonderful place to stay. Thanks again Kyle!!

Very disappointing. A detour in the road from Dunedin made an otherwise very difficult route horrible. No one warned us of the detour, not our travel agency or Kaimata, even though both were aware of our arrival day and Kaimata the detour. After the long, treacherous, partial-dirt road arrival, we found what was billed as a luxury retreat. Far from...

Our car navigation system chose to take us from Dunedin to the Kaimata Retreat via the "scenic" route over the Otago peninsula and down again on rough roads along the coast line. We were met by Kyle Davidson who owns and manages the place with his partner Rachel. Our first impression was "Surfer Dude" and he turned out to be...

Beautiful location, great accommodation and a personal chef, what more can I say! This place is on a remote bay by the Otago Peninsula, and only has 3 rooms so is very private. It's a good half hour drive from Dunedin but is a good base for visiting Larnach Castle or Albatross center. The rooms are fantastic, modern, well appointed,...

If your trip includes Dunedin in NZ, this is the place to stay. Only three rooms. The owner is a hoot and very nice. The added plus is the chef (Fillipo) who is a master with food. While the rooms are european small, the views are spectacular and the deck is inviting. Great yard and it goes down to the...

Words cannot describe just how amazing this is. If you want to escape the busy world just come to this. The scenery is incredible with the sea lions and fish visible from the high view. you can go down and have a swim in the water or just watch sunset from the veranda, before being spoilt by the chef cooking...

I'm still dreaming of our little room overlooking the estuary at Kaimata. We were warmly welcomed by Kyle on our arrival and settled into our cozy and beautifully decorated room, one of just 3 at KR. We woke to stunning views and a delicious full cooked breakfast by the lovely Chef Chloe. Afterward, Kyle took us to a pristine beach...

While this place is remote and quite difficult to find and the narrow roads are terrifying to drive on (particularly in dark and wet conditions) it's well worth the effort once you get there. To alleviate some stress with the drive can we suggest you take the road along the water rather than the hinterland route (even though your GPS...
