The Econo Lodge Alcala offers a central location with friendly and helpful staff. While the rooms are dated its comfortable place to stay with reasonable facilities and I wouldn't hesitate to return .

We have stayed at Alcala twice now, once in the family room and once in a studio room. The staff here are very helpful and the owner, Gary, is very friendly and always happy to help out. I would recommend this motel to anyone who is staying in Dunedin for a holiday or to visit family. It is close to...

Stop building that time machine to 1979! Book here instead. This place is amazing with it's stucco and Spanish arches but it's perfectly serviceable and really clean. It also has useful things like a full-sized oven and good water pressure on the lower floor. A tip - if you're with kids request a ground floor unit. Family stayed in upper...

Brilliant customer service, very comfortable rooms........yes, they're looking a bit old but they are obviously starting some renovations. We loved our stay here.....felt very welcomed and enjoyed our home away from home!

Great place for location. Tidy and clean, but very outdated. Good deal for the price. Quiet. The young lady who met us had no personality, and we saw nobody else in our 3 days....oh except for the cleaning lady banging on our door at 9.30am on the first morning, to see if we wanted our room done. Our curtains were...

I was a little concerned having read some of the reviews here but this was a great place to stay. OK, it isn't 5 star, but for the price it was good. This is also called "Alcala Motor Lodge" in case you are wondering if it is the same place. In a nutshell, the rooms were a generous size and...

Traditional New Zealand style roadside Inn. Huge studio suitable for a family (see photos) although the steps up to the mezzanine floor were pretty steep so wouldn't suit all ages. Very dated interior, hence the title of the review. The ironing board had a loose latch so was likely to collapse while ironing - and did quite frequently. The bathroom...

Came through town on a Tuesday and we hadn't planned on staying but plans changed. I'm not sure what Dunedin thinks its got but the prices are Queenstown and the digs are not. Spent most of the trip down from CHCH on tripadvisor trying to figure out the best value place. This place was OK but pretty old school and...

Just a few minutes walk to town and several restaurants. Great value for money! all the amenities, oven, electric blankets, free off street parking, they even had an extra heater in our unit as someone had complained the unit was noisy, (it didn't worry us) My second stay at Alcala and I will be back!
