Agree with previous reviewers - historic charm - have stayed here twice. lots of wood paneling - stair cases etc found rooms adequate with charm. central location ie near railway station (an icon as well) museum - very near Octagon (city centre)

Great position, Old, comfortable. Our room was a lovely surprise. On the corner, it was huge, fabulous views, quiet too. Close to the Railway station, Cadbury Factory and the Japanese Gardens. Walking distance to all of the above.

Who should book here? Anybody who appreciates immersing themselves in the timeworn, palpable history of this authentic goldmining era establishment. There are knowledgeable, long-serving staff here who can help answer your questions, and a treasure-trove of Leviathan memorabilia on display (there is even engraved silverware on display in the breakfast room that dates back to 1884) as well as many...

We had a pleasant stay here for a night, clean and tidy! Great location nice and central, we caught the train in the morning and could easily just walk across the road! Friendly staff on the desk and free parking!

The Leviathan Hotel is very handy 5 minute walk to the Octagon and other attractions. If going to Dunedin to watch rugby at the Forsyth Barr Stadium it is about a 20 minute walk. I had a courtyard facing room so had two nights great sleep. The staff are very helpful and the room was clean with free coffee and...

To begin with the floor in the rooms were not level. Sounds crazy but they slewed towards the corridor. This was very noticeable even when laying down. We asked for a non-smoking room in our booking some weeks before-hand. Our room was anything but! The street rooms were noisy and the rooms themselves were very 50's and the noise from...

This hotel is situated on a major road, trucks and cars roar down the road. The room I was in had curtains which provided no insulation and the sash windows were not insulated. If you want a decent nights sleep take earplugs.

The hotel is a heritage building with some great antique features within and an interesting history, but it appeared much of the grandeur has been lost. The location was good, close to the railway station and within a few blocks to the Octagon and city centre, the theatre and a couple of two supermarkets. The university was a bit further...

I have to say this place was very dated and run down. We were very surprised that such a central and well used place has not been cared for and restored. It looks shabby and unclean. The beds were very old and soft. The linen was of poor quality and dated. The pipes make a horrendous noise when you run...

We love this hotel. Very reasonably priced right in the centre of Dunedin with free parking and Wi-Fi. We had a large room with small kitchenette and lounge area. Laundry facilities are available. Meals are excellent and large. There is a bicycle storage area and the hotel is a 5 minute walk to the station and CBD. However traffic noise...
