Truly one of the best locations in New Zealand. Truly magical. We enjoyed it all from the accommodation within the stables and also the full site walking around the estate. We really tried to find all the ghosts and have fun with the family tree and the events that took place there. Top Choice for a good holiday.

The breakfast and castle tour were included with our accommodation costs. The breakfast was lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip around the castle and grounds and staying overnight we were able to view the grounds at night. The first room we were given had two old single beds pushed together which I did not think was acceptable so asked to...

I enjoyed staying in castles in Scotland and England therefore the only one castle in New Zealand was must stay. And it was worth staying! Very nice gardens on top of the mountain. Historical places and good view both were very encouraging. The breakfast was in former stables. If you need to stay short in Dunedin as tourist the best...

We spent 2 nights at the Lodge and had a great time. The Lodge rooms are OK but not spectacular. However on a sunny day the views of the peninsula from our room's deck were unbelievable. Walking the grounds and visiting all the various gardens in addition to touring the Castle was a once in a lifetime experience. The variety...

Rooms are large and comfortable. Bathroom is dated with weak water pressure in the shower. Walls are not sound insulated and can be disturbing if you have noisy neighbours. The views are splendid and the gardens are marvellous. We had a lovely balcony to enjoy the views and afternoon sun. Staff is friendly and efficient. Castle tour was interesting. Everything...

My husband and I stayed at Camp Estate, an affiliated property of the Castle, but had dinner at the castle expecting a "Downton Abbey" experience. We were very disappointed. The first thing you see upon entering the castle for dinner is the gift shop. Orders for drinks are taken and you mill around until finally escorted into dinner. You must...

Fun experience. Great variety for the holiday. Large room. The main bed is only a double so quite small for a couple. Check in with Brian added to the experience. The buildings are fabulous and reminded us of travelling days in the U.K. Walls are thin though so when a family with two babies are next door it can be...

Larnach Lodge was one of the highlights of our New Zealand road trip and we were only sorry we just stayed two nights. Set in the grounds of Larnach Castle, a beautifully Gothic restored castle, and the only castle in New Zealand, the Lodge was a real gem of a place. Free entry to the castle and grounds was an...

Overall not what we were hoping for given other great reviews. Our room was clean but quite small. We ordered the dinner package, which was disappointing. My wife ordered her steak "medium" and got a very rare steak, which she would not eat. I ordered lamb "medium rare" and got lamb very well done, which was tough and not at...

It's really hard to believe that something as magnificent as the Larnach Castle could have been built in New Zealand and restored to its former glory - the grounds are beautifully landscaped and the castle is magnificent in a spectacular setting overlooking the picturesque city of Dunedin. The family history of the Larnach Castle is heartbreaking and tragic.
