My wife and I stayed in a double room to get the true "jail experience". We enjoyed our short stay in Christchurch and the friendly staff told us all the best places to go! We will be returning to this hostel when we fly out home!

A very interesting concept for a hostel. This is more than a themed hotel as the building was previously a genuine prison. Since the rooms were originally cells they are quite small, the only furnishing is a double bunk which doesn't leave room for much else, especially if you are sharing. There are two power points and a small mirror....

We read about jailhouse online & booked straight away. It is a quirky unique hostel & is worth visiting. It is clean and even the 10 bed dorms are spacious ( & as a backpacker, I appreciate everyone having their own plug socket!!). The hostel was very cold but everyone is supplied with blankets, hot water bottles & a very...

Generally I don't tend to stay in the 'bigger' hostels, but I decided to stay here simply because it seemed like an interesting place - renovated jail! The staff was extremely helpful! The bed was comfortable and there were plenty of electrical outlets! The kitchen was fairly well stocked, but it was very busy. Some of the warmers didn't work...

The concept are different, the building is beautiful, was a jail in 1987, cool!!!! The shared bathroom and shower facilities were very clean and towels were provided. The reception staff were extremely friendly, 1hr internet free, tv room and cinema. Hagley park, coffee, bares and restaurant, also dairy and supermarket are close. We love jailhouse!!!!!

My husband and I booked into the Jailhouse the other week for one night before we flew out of Christchurch. The reception staff were extremely friendly and whilst we did not need much assistance, we noticed them helping lots of other guests to book trips and hire campervans etc. We booked a private double room which was compact but had...

Back to Christchurch and stayed in Jail one more time - great as it's always been. Comfy beds, had a great nights sleep in a 2 bed dorm! Everything tidy and clean and the staff friendly and super helpful. Breakfast at Addington Coffee Co-op just around the corner just made my day after this peaceful and relaxing night :-) All...

I love this place. The staff are all so friendly and helpful, and the history of the place makes it an awesome stay. Sure, it's a bit drafty in the wintertime, but there's no room to complain when there are extra duvets for free as well as hot water bottles on offer (also for free). It's perhaps not as centrally...
