Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great alternative to boring chain hotels. Pretty close to the city centre and yet quiet. Rooms have character and are comfortable. The hosts were friendly and incredibly helpful at all times. Will be back!

Excellent location within walking distance of town. Hosts always around to answer questions or seek help. Rooms comfortable and although the book says serviced daily you do need to put the sign on the door to request it to be made up, not an issue for us. Breakfast catered for all especially with allergies. Thank you for showing me that you can buy weet-bix that are gluten free

After my husband had a medical emergency in Christchurch, we had to find a hotel located close to the hospital. Jackie and Steve provided this for us even with the summer rush of tourists. We ended up having to stay for two months, and Steve worked hard to keep us at this beautiful hotel for our entire stay. Jackie provided the personal touch with her ability to make everyone feel that they are the only guests at the hotel. Olena, who assists Jackie and Steve, was amazing and hardworking. The hotel is a beautiful historic home with an addition added and just across the street from the cathedral and a half block from the amazing Botanic Gardens and Art Museum. The City Centre is an easy 10 minute walk as well. Each day we enjoyed a delicious breakfast, the large TV room living area, and hanging out on the beautiful patio area in the evenings. We feel like we have lifelong Kiwi friends in Jackie and Steve. When it was time to leave, my recovering husband and I were excited to get home, but very sad to leave our "home away from home" and our new friends! Thanks also to Costa and his lovely wife for providing a lovely Christchurch hotel and finding the best managers ever!

From the warm and friendly greeting at reception, given a gorgeous room, a lovely lounge and nice breakfast - can’t advocate for this place enough. We were given Room 1, which is at the front of the house in the original section. If you like tge 1890’s but with modern amenities this is for you. Warm, spacious, comfortable with everything you would want. At the back is the new section with reception, kitchen/dining room and though to a huge lounge and garden. Feels like home but you are treated as a guest. Sitting in front of the fire with a cup of tea was very relaxing after a long day. Botanical Gardens are minutes away, city centre 10-15 minute walk so a perfect location. The only thing, for now, is the building across the road us being repaired so we were woken early by construction stuff in the early hours. Perhaps for now, ask for a room at the back if you are a light sleeper but it’s a shame as the original home is stunning. I would definitely return without hesitation.

We stayed a total of three nights at the Classic Villa. This lovely property is ideally situated close to the city centre and near to the Botanic Gardens, a tram stop, the Art Gallery and many restaurants. The hosts are extremely friendly and provide an excellent continental breakfast.

Very comfortable and conveniently situated near the tram, Botanic gardens and restaurants? We stayed in room 1 which was large and had everything we wanted. Steve and Jackie were helpful and attentive hosts and couldn’t have done more for us. We arrived jet lagged after travelling from the UK and it was an oasis of peace and tranquillity which was much appreciated! Breakfast was a help yourself and Jackie made coffee, toast, pastries etc which were lovely. A great first impression on New Zealand. Would recommend a stay here.

Wonderful boutique hotel. Our room was super comfortable, quiet and the hotel is very centrally located. Steve was great and was very helpful with everything from restaurants to things to do and any needs we might have had. I would recommend this hotel for a great and personal experience

Our hosts Steve and Jackie were warm and hospitable. Our room (#12) was spacious and the bathroom well equipped. Breakfast was a generous, self-serve expanded Continental with delicious homemade bread. The villa is a gracious spot, ideally situated in the city, just short blocks to dozens of restaurants, the Botannical Gardens, Riverside Market and shopping. A hop-on-hop-off tram stops just steps away. If you're looking for a quiet location and something more special than a cookie-cutter hotel room, then the Classic Villa is the place for you.

This was the best accomodation by far we stayed at during our South Island tour (out of 8 hotels). The hosts were extremely customer focussed, without being overbearing. The location is right in the middle of the city and the room was of a very high standard. This is a small establishment ie perhaps 15 rooms or so in an historic type two storey villa. Breakfast was continental. All in all this is definitely a 5 star accomodation, with great rooms, hosts and the best location with a short 3 - 5 minute walk to the middle of the city.
